AbstractLectotypes are designated for Margaronia curvilinea Janse, 1924, and Margaronia pratti Janse, 1924. These species are referred to Palpita Hübner, [1808], as new combinations. They are redescribed and differentiated from certain closely related species. Phalaena Geometra annulata Fabricius, 1794, and Botys partialis Lederer, 1863, are treated as species inquirenda in the absence of type material. Glyphodes celsalis Walker, 1859, and Margaronia inusitata Butler, 1879, are treated as distinct species and are transferred to Palpita as new combinations. Margaronia warrenalis Swinhoe, 1894, is transferred to Palpita as a new combination; a lectotype is designated for this species and its characters are compared with those of P. curvilinea. Palpita varii n. sp., from Manusela, Ceram, and P. jansei n. sp., from the Island of Mioswar, Geelvink Bay, New Guinea, are described from holotypes drawn from the type-series of P. pratti; characters differentiating these three species are given.

The cycad genus Dioon comprises 17 species from Mexico and Honduras, all of them delimited based on their morphological variation and geographic distribution. A recent evaluation of the biological variation among Dioon populations from Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico, demonstrated that the concept of the species Dioon merolae actually consists of three lineages that should be recognized as different taxa. One lineage was already described as Dioon oaxacensis, leaving the concept of Dioon merolae comprising two lineages distributed on both sides of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. However, there are conspicuous morphological differences between these two lineages. Here, we tested whether such a differentiation within the concept of Dioon merolae merits the differentiation of two different taxa. We evaluated the qualitative and morphometric variation among populations belonging to the Dioon merolae lineages, and compared it with the closely related species Dioon oaxacensis. Morphological observations and statistical tests demonstrated that the populations of southeastern Oaxaca, traditionally considered as part of Dioon merolae, represent a distinct species that we described as Dioon salas-moralesae. Identifying the diagnostic characters of this new species helps enable an understanding of the criteria that should be considered to delineate the boundaries between other cycad species.

Six new species of the spider genus Tonsilla Wang & Yin, 1992 are described from southern China: T. jinyunensis sp. nov. (♂♀) from Chongqing, T. jiugongensis sp. nov. (♂♀) from Hubei, T. subtruculenta sp. nov. (♂♀), T. rutunda sp. nov. (♂♀) and T. yueliangensis sp. nov. (♂) from Guizhou and T. subrostrum sp. nov. (♂♀) from Hunan. In addition, T. yanlingensis (Zhang, Yin & Kim, 2000) is redescribed and its male is described here for the first time. Tonsilla subyanlingensis Liu & Xu, 2020 is transferred to Draconarius Ovtchinnikov, 1999, hence the new combination Draconarius subyanlingensis (Liu & Xu, 2020) comb. nov. is established. The female of T. subyanlingensis Liu & Xu, 2020 should be treated as T. yanlingensis (Zhang, Yin & Kim, 2000). Detailed descriptions, photographs of copulatory organs and somatic features, a distribution map and comparisons with closely related species are presented.

AbstractParmeliella zeylanica is described as a new species in the P. mariana group, although it differs from all known species in the group by not having radiating marginal lobes resting on a distinct mat of rhizohyphae. It is as yet known only from the highlands of Sri Lanka. The new combination Parmeliella leiostroma (Nyl.) P. M. Jørg. is made for a closely related species from the same region, and it is shown that Parmeliella endomilta var. achromatica Makhija & Adawara falls within the variation of Parmeliella mariana (Fr.) P. M.Jørg. & D. J. Galloway, and is not closely related to P. endomilta.

Two new species of Euphorbiaceae (sensu stricto), Mallotus bicarpellatus (Acalyphoideae) and Croton nepalensis (Crotonoideae), are described from Nepal. Mallotus bicarpellatus is closely related to M. philippensis but differs in having 1 or 2 pairs of leaf glands distinctly separated from the petiole attachment, pistillate flowers with staminodes and longer pedicels, and fewer locules and stigmas. Croton nepalensis differs from C. tiglium in having leaves with truncate, subcordate or rounded base, smaller, broadly ovoid capsules, and smaller seeds. A table is provided showing how Croton nepalensis differs from other closely related species. Croton himalaicus is here regarded as a synonym of C. tiglium, though it has been treated variously as a distinct species or a synonym of C. tiglium or C. birmanicus by recent authors. Distribution maps and graphs of altitudinal distribution are given for the new species.

A new species of sphaerodorid (Polychaeta: Sphaerodoridae), Sphaerodoropsisgarciaalvarezi sp. nov., is described from specimens collected on sandy bottoms off the Galician coast (Spain, north-east Atlantic). This species is characterized by having two pairs of digitiform lateral antennae, 13 dorsal macrotubercles per segment in mid-body setigers arranged in two transverse rows, five dorsal microtubercles per segment arranged in five longitudinal rows, six ventral papillae per segment arranged in six longitudinal rows, digitiform presetal lobes and ventral cirri, and composite setae with spinulation on blade and distal end of shaft. Complementary observations to original descriptions are also provided for closely related species Sphaerodoropsis bisphaeroserialis and Sphaerodoropsisarctowskyensis upon examination of type series.

The genus Trimelopter has been recently reinstated to include Ornithogalum unifolium and other closely related species from Southern Africa, comprising up to 10 species. Within the context of a revision of Trimelopter, a new species, T. craibii, is here formally described to name plants discovered by the late Charles Craib in the North West Province of South Africa. This taxon is closely related to T. dyeri and T. unifolium, but it can be clearly differentiated by floral and vegetative characters. Data on morphology, ecology, and distribution are reported for this new species, and affinities and divergences with other closely related taxa are also discussed. The new combination T. unifolium var. vestitum is also proposed.

Twenty-two non-lichenicolous species of Tremella are reported from Russia. Detailed descriptions, photographs, illustrations and a dichotomous key for the identification of taxa are provided. Two species, Tremella subalpina and T. griseola, are described as new. One new combination is proposed, and an epitype for Tremella yokohamensis is designated. Molecular phylogenetic reconstructions are presented based on nrITS and nrLSU regions in Bayesian and likelihood analyses. Phylogenetic data were strongly correlated with morphological data and were useful to delimit closely related species.

Abstract:The species of the genus Fuscidea occurring in North America are revised. Two new species, Fuscidea appalachensis Fryday and F. texana Fryday, are described from eastern North America and southern Texas, respectively. Three new combinations are also made in Fuscidea: Lecidea aleutica Degel. is shown to be a distinct species and not a synonym of Fuscidea lowensis (H. Magn.) R. Anderson & Hertel as previously suggested and is here recognized as F. aleutica (Degel.) Fryday; non-sorediate, apotheciate specimens from eastern North America previously referred to F. recensa (Stirt.) Hertel, V. Wirth & Vězda are recognized as Fuscidea recensa var. arcuatula (Arnold) Fryday; and Fuscidea scrupulosa (Eckf.) Fryday is shown to be the correct name for Fuscidea subreagens (H. Magn.) Oberholl. & V. Wirth. Fuscidea subfilamentosa (Zahlbr.) Brako is shown to be a member of the Lecidea hypnorum group and the new combination Lecidea subfilamentosa (Zahlbr.) Fryday is made, and Lecidea gyrodes H. Magn., described from Tennessee, is shown to be a synonym of F. recensa var. arcuatula. Fuscidea cyathoides (Ach.) V. Wirth & Vězda, F. kochiana (Hepp) V. Wirth & Vězda and F. lightfootii (Sm.) Coppins & P. James are considered not to have been correctly reported from North America.

The genus Mesophleps Hübner (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is revised; 54 available names (including one unjustifiedemendation), one junior primary homonym and one unavailable name were considered; type material of 44 previouslydescribed nominal species was examined. Authors and other individuals wishing to have new names and/or combinations included in future lists should send three copies of the pertinent reprint or photocopies thereof to the IJSEM Editorial Office for confirmation that all of the other requirements for valid publication have been met. It is also a requirement of IJSEM and the ICSP that authors of new species, new subspecies and new combinations provide evidence that types are deposited in two recognized culture collections in two different countries (i.e. documents certifying deposition and availability of type strains). It should be noted that the date of valid publication of these new names and combinations is the date of publication of this list, not the date of the original publication of the names and combinations. The authors of the new names and combinations are as given below, and these authors' names will be included in the author index of the present issue and in the volume author index. Inclusion of a name on these lists validates the publication of the name and thereby makes it available in bacteriological nomenclature. The inclusion of a name on this list is not to be construed as taxonomic acceptance of the taxon to which the name is applied. Indeed, some of these names may, in time, be shown to be synonyms, or the organisms may be transferred to another genus, thus necessitating the creation of a new combination.
