Objectives: In recent years, it has been shown that there is association between metabolic syndrome and urinary stone disease. Stone disease and erectile dysfunction (ED) are considered as systemic diseases which are associated with hormonal and metabolic disorders. Therefore we investigated the relationship between ED and urinary tract calculi. Material and methods: 98 male patients with urolithiasis and 59 randomly selected male patients without stone disease were included in the study. Serum testosterone (T) levels were measured and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF)-15 questionnaire forms were used to assess ED. Results: The prevalence of ED was found 29% (29 patients) in the urolithiasis group. Sixty-nine patients (71%) had no ED; 16 (16.3%) had mild, 5 (5.1%) had moderate and 8 (8.2%) had severe ED. None of the patients in the control group had severe or modarete ED, six patients (10.2%) had mild ED. Serum T levels were detected at the level of biochemical hypogonadism on 13 patients with stones (13.3%) and T levels were detected at the lower limit in 18 (18.3%) patients. Conclusion: In our study we have shown that ED and low T levels are significantly associated with urolithiasis. We propose that the patients with urolitiasis should be evaluated for ED and hypogonadism.

Abstract Information on cardiovascular problems related to childhood urinary stone disease is limited. The aim of this study is to assess the ventricular functions and subclinical cardiovascular risk in children with urolithiasis using echocardiographic measurements. Children readily diagnosed with urolithiasis were enrolled in the study as well as children with no urinary stone disease confirmed via urinary ultrasonography. Body mass index (BMI) and blood pressures were noted as well as basic serum parameters. Carotid intima media thickness (cIMT), epicardial fat tissue (EFT) thickness and periaortic fat tissue (PFT) thickness were measured via transthoracic echocardiography in addition to pulsed and tissue Doppler imaging. Myocardial performance indexes were also calculated and correlation analyses were made. A total of 17 patients (10 boys) were enrolled in the study with a mean age of 8.57 ± 2.62 years. There were 17 children (12 boys) in the control group and their mean age was 9.53 ± 1.72 years. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of demographic and laboratory variables. Tissue Doppler echocardiography revealed that Tei indexes of left ventricle, right ventricle and septum were significantly higher in the study group than in the controls (p < 0.001 for all). The cIMT (0.041 ± 0.012 vs. 0.025 ± 0.002), EFT (0.432 ± 0.083 vs. 0.325 ± 0.032) and PFT thicknesses (0.138 ± 0.029 vs. 0.113 ± 0.008) of the study group were statistically higher than the control group (p < 0.001, p < 0.001 and p = 0.002, respectively) indicating a higher CVD risk. Conclusions: Children with urolithiasis presented not only biventricular early systolic and diastolic dysfunction but also subclinical atherosclerosis in early ages. Cardiovascular complications should be considered in the follow-up and treatment of these patients.

Introduction: Both premature ejaculation(PE) and erectile dysfunction(ED) are prevalent sexual health disorders that have been inadequately investigated in Malaysia, a multiethnic and conservative nation. The objective of the study was to study the relationship between PE and ED, and other common mental health issues, i.e. anxiety and depression in Malaysian urban population. Methods: The diagnosis for PE was established by clinical diagnosis using DSM-5 and ISSM definition criteria for PE, whereas a diagnosis of ED was established by the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire. Anxiety and depression levels were detected from the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results: Based on DSM-V and ISSM clinical diagnosis for PE, the prevalence of PE was found to be 25%. Erectile dysfunction (p = 0.035, OR = 3.315, 95% CI 1.088, 10.103) and severe anxiety (p = 0.020, OR = 7.656, 95% CI 1.383, 42.396) significantly predicted presence of PE. Conclusion: There was a strong association between PE and ED and between PE and anxiety. Routine examination for PE in male patients should address the issue and the management of both ED and anxiety among PE patients, especially in an urban Malaysian clinical and medical care setting.
