Tax revenue is a key source of income for most countries in the world. To maximize tax revenue, it is critical that taxpayers comply with relevant tax laws particularly in a self-assessment filing system. Alas, many countries are still grappling with tax evasion or even tax avoidance issue. A key challenge is tax compliance behavior remains a complex and perplexing topic. While a lack of tax knowledge is pertinently attributable to unintentional non-compliance, the causes of intentional non-compliance are far from clear. This study aims to investigate the factors associated with intentional tax non-compliance by ruling out the variation in tax knowledge explanation. In so doing, this study employs a sample of respondents deemed conversant with tax knowledge. More specifically, this study surveys 104 tax practitioners in Malaysia using a convenience sampling technique and utilizes the theories of planned behavior and free trait to explore how they behave when filing their personal tax returns. The findings suggest only subjective norms is significantly linked to their tax compliance behavior. This study extends the literature on the role of individual factors on tax compliance behaviour among tax practitioners acting in a different persona.

Theory suggests that increases in income tax rates induce individuals to make choices that reduce their tax liability. This article documents the growth of “business” losses reported on personal tax returns during 1948–1980. Such losses offset $57 billion of taxable income in 1980 and saved taxpayers an estimated $16 billion.

The new global intangible low-taxed income (GILTI) regime, introduced as part of the 2017 US tax reform, attributes income of certain foreign corporations in excess of an arbitrary 10 percent return to intangible assets and subjects such income to US tax on a current basis for certain US individual shareholders. This article explains how US citizens resident in Canada who are subject to the GILTI rules may effectively manage the adverse implications of the regime by utilizing an election under section 962 of the Internal Revenue Code. The election allows individual shareholders to be taxed at the US domestic corporate tax rate of 21 percent (instead of a maximum personal tax rate of 37 percent), claim a deduction for 50 percent of the GILTI inclusion, and claim foreign tax credits for a portion of Canadian corporate taxes paid. With this election, a combined corporate and personal global tax liability may remain mostly consistent with the pre-GILTI era. On the other hand, if the GILTI exposure is not appropriately managed, the result is significantly different. With proper advice and reporting, for some US shareholders, the GILTI provisions may be a case of "much ado about nothing." However, for US shareholders of corporations that pay the small business rate, there is a small tax cost to the GILTI inclusion for maintaining the benefit of deferral. For all US shareholders of Canadian corporations, there are still some unaddressed issues that add complexity and uncertainty to the preparation of those individuals' US income tax returns.

The post-tax returns/acre/annum of farm woodlot scale forestry are compared with sheep siocked at 5 stock units/acre. The results are presented as a break-even timber value. This is the paint at which returns from forestry and farming are equal, thereby implying that farm forestry would be more profitable than sheep grazing at timber values above the breakeven.

Individual Taxpayers (WPOP) experience problems every year due to difficulties in filling out SPT. The Directorate General of Taxes issued a new policy in providing easy Notification Services (SPT) using online systems namely e-Filling and e-SPT. The policy taken by the government turned out that there were still many obstacles faced by the KPP Pratama Ponorogo Tax Office regarding ponorogo's lack of understanding related to filling out SPT manually or online using e-SPT and e-Felling. So that this certainly can make taxpayers object to the submission of Annual Tax Returns, especially in terms of calculating the tax payable which must be calculated on its own. Data collection is done by using primary data in the form of questionnaires. The samples processed in this study were 100 respondents who were distributed to individual taxpayers registered at KPP Pratama Ponorogo. Data analysis method uses validity test and reliability test, hypothesis testing using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that the awareness of taxpayers, taxpayer intentions, taxpayer attitudes, subjective norms, behavioral control and ease of tax return filling process affect Tax Compliance (tax compliance) submission of Annual Tax Returns. This is because taxpayers know, understand and implement taxation provisions correctly and voluntarily so as to increase taxpayer compliance in fulfilling their obligations and are willing to report taxes with their own awareness.

Growing tax competition among national governments in the presence of capital mobility distorts equilibrium in the international corporate tax market. This paper is related to the literature that examines impact of international tax policies on corporate accounting statements. Employing international firm-level data, this study revisits the race-to-the-bottom hypothesis and documents that tax exemptions lowering effective tax rates relative to statutory rates increase pre-tax returns. This finding directly contradicts the implicit tax hypothesis documented by Wilkie (1992), who provided empirical evidence on inverse relationship between pre-tax return and tax subsidy. We also find evidences that relative importance of permanent versus timing component depends on the geography and that decline in corporate tax rates reduces impact of tax subsidies on profitability. Our findings suggest that tax subsidies play a different role than in 1968-1985, which was examined by Wilkie (1992). These results are consistent with the race-to-the-bottom hypothesis and income shifting explanation
