A total of 865 spring wheat varieties, and selections from the 14, 28 and 42 chromosome groups, were inoculated in 3 successive years with a mixture of Canadian collections of loose smut, Ustilago tritici (Pers.) Rostr. At the end of the first year, 231 were rated immune; after the second inoculation, 188; and after the third, 162. These included 116 from the 42 chromosome group, 43 from the 28, and 3 from the 14. Although some of the reduction in immune or resistant types after the first year may have resulted from escapes, it is probable that most of these showed susceptibility to new collections added in the second and third years.

AC Foremost, red-seeded spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), combines high grain yield with resistance to prevalent races of common bunt (caused by Tilletia laevis Kuhn in Rabenh. and T. caries (DC.) Tul. & C. Tul.), and loose smut except T9 (caused by Ustilago tritici (Pers.) Rostr. in a semidwarf, photoperiod insensitive background. AC Foremost has improved pre-harvest sprouting tolerance compared with Biggar, AC Taber, and Genesis; improved resistance to leaf rust (caused by Puccinia recondita Roberg ex Desmaz.) and leaf spots (caused by Septoria spp. and Pyrenophora tritici repentis (Died.) Drechs.) compared with Neepawa and Biggar, and earlier maturity compared with Biggar, AC Taber, and Genesis. AC Foremost is eligible for grades of the Canada Prairie Spring (Red) wheat class. An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of delay sowing on incidence of loose smut (Ustilago tritici), flag smut (Urocystis agropyri) and seed gall (Anguina tritici) of wheat. Varieties WH 896 and Raj 1555 were free from loose smut at all dates of sowing. At normal date of snwing (25 November) disease incidence varied from 28.18% (HD 2285) to 43.18 % (Sonalika). Due to delay in sowing by 20 days (15 December), the disease incidence was reduced to 21.33-38.18% and delay by 35 days (30 December) it was reduced to 18.62% -32.5 % on all susceptible varieties. At all dates of sowing, varieties WH 283, WI-I 291, WH 896 and Raj 1555 were not infected with flag smut. Other varieties were infected with the disease showing 1.3-14.57, 1.11-11.83 and 0.83-9.14% incidence at the sowing dates of 25 November (normal), 15 December (delay) and 30 December (delay), respectively. All of the varieties tested in this study were infected with seed gall nematode and disease incidence increased with delay in date of sowing. The ranges of the disease incidence were 8.16-20.14, 12.33-28.91 and 14.16-36.66% at first, second tnd third date of sowing, respectively.Key Words: Loose smut; flag smut; seed gall nematode; wheat; sowing date.DOI: 10.3329/bjar.v34i1.5746Bangladesh J. The field experiment was carried out at the Experimental Station of Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy (Lithuania) in 2017–2019. The aim of the study was to determine and to compare weed spread and caraway crop productivity in sole (spring barley, spring wheat, pea, caraway), binary (spring barley-caraway, spring wheat-caraway, pea-caraway) and trinary (spring barley-caraway-white clover, spring wheat-caraway-white clover, pea-caraway-white clover) crops. In the second and the third years of caraway cultivation, it was estimated that the abundance of perennial weeds in the crops increased. In the first year, significantly the highest dry matter mass of weeds was determined in non-sprayed with herbicides binary crops with undersown caraway and in trinary crops with undersown caraway and clover; in the second year—in the caraway binary crops, when they were grown after barley and wheat without clover; in the third year—in caraway binary and trinary crops when they were grown after barley, wheat and pea without clover and after barley and wheat with clover. In the second year, the highest yields of caraway seeds were obtained by growing them in peas, and in the third year by growing them in wheat together with clover. Caraway can be grown in trinary crops, including white clover, and harvested in the second or the third year of the vegetative season.

The third chapter traces the beginning of the partnership through the first year of Queen Anne’s reign, as Marlborough persuades Godolphin to return to office as Lord Treasurer and his ministerial partner, with the declared aim of ‘moderation’, that is, holding the balance between the Tories and Whigs on the basis of their support of the war. The role of Queen Anne’s husband Prince George is examined and Marlborough’s and Godolphin’s separate roles are explored, along with the significance of their extensive correspondence. Marlborough is unexpectedly successful in his first campaign, but his determination to obtain a grant from Parliament to support his dukedom jeopardizes Godolphin’s project for war-supply, and their rival Rochester contests control of the Treasury and therefore the war. Marlborough forces Rochester’s resignation and the partnership is confirmed when Marlborough’s only son dies shortly before he leaves for the Continent and he adopts Godolphin’s son as his heir.

Objective To construct deep learning (DL) models to improve the accuracy and efficiency of thyroid disease diagnosis by thyroid scintigraphy. Methods We constructed DL models with AlexNet, VGGNet, and ResNet. The models were trained separately with transfer learning. We measured each model’s performance with six indicators: recall, precision, negative predictive value (NPV), specificity, accuracy, and F1-score. We also compared the diagnostic performances of first- and third-year nuclear medicine (NM) residents with assistance from the best-performing DL-based model. The Kappa coefficient and average classification time of each model were compared with those of two NM residents. Results The recall, precision, NPV, specificity, accuracy, and F1-score of the three models ranged from 73.33% to 97.00%. The Kappa coefficient of all three models was >0.710. All models performed better than the first-year NM resident but not as well as the third-year NM resident in terms of diagnostic ability. However, the ResNet model provided “diagnostic assistance” to the NM residents. The models provided results at speeds 400 to 600 times faster than the NM residents. Conclusion DL-based models perform well in diagnostic assessment by thyroid scintigraphy. These models may serve as tools for NM residents in the diagnosis of Graves’ disease and subacute thyroiditis.

Background:Ustekinumab has been efficacy and safety for psoriatic artritis in clinical trials.Objectives:To assess effectiveness, by means of drug persistence analisys, and safety of ustekinumab in patients with psoriastic arthritis in Biobadaser.Methods:BIOBADASER is the Spanish registry of biological drugs of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology and the Spanish Medicines Agency. We identified patients aged 18 years or more with psoriatic arthritis on Ustekinumab. A descriptive analysis was performed.The persistence of ustekinumab therapy was calculated with a Kaplan-Meier curve and was compared with the persistence of anti-TNF, according to line treatment. Log Rank test was used to establish a comparison. Adverse events occurring with ustekinumab are described according to year treatment.Results:One hundred and twelve patients were on ustekinumab. Most of them were on their second or third line treatment: 53.57% more than one biological therapy (BT), 19.64% second BT, 26.79% were naïve for BT. Most of them were on 45 mg dose: 88.24%. Median duration of disease at Ustekinumab initiation was 10.1 SD 7.2 years; 69.23% had peripheral arthritis; 45.24% had obesity and 39.29% were overweight; 40,6% were on prednisone and 59.82% on DMARD. The cause of discontinuation of treatment was mainly inefficacy (82.61%) and less common an adverse event (6.52%). The probability of persistence of treatment with ustekinumab was 0.83 (95% CI 0.63-0.92) at year 1, 0.79 (0.58-0.90) at year 2 and 0.79 (0.58-0.9) at year 3 when ustekinumab was prescribed as the first line treatment. The persistence decrease when ustekinumab was prescribe as a second and third treatment: being 0.53 (0.27-0.73) the first year, 0.46 (0.22-0.67) the second year and 0.46 (0.22-0.67) as a second line treatment and 0.58 (0.44-0.70) the first year, 0.33 (0.17-0.50) the second year and 0.33 (0.17-0.50) the third year as a third line treatment.The persistence was similar to anti-TNF treatment, according to line treatment. Adverse events were mainly mild (97.83%) and occurred the first year of treatment. Most of the adverse events were classified as “infections and infestations” (36.96%).Conclusion:The persistence of ustekinumab was high, being 83% at the end of the first year on treatment and 79% the second and the third year of treatment. The persistence of ustekinumab was higher when if it was the first line treatment compared as if it was used as the second o third BT option. The persistence of Ustekinumab is similar to the persistence of anti-TNF treatments in all the analyzed treatment lines (no statistically differences were found). Adverse events occurred mainly during the first year treatment.
