The Student Evaluation of Clinical Education Environment (SECEE) instrument was developed to provide information about the quality of the student clinical learning environment to assist clinical agencies, nursing faculty, and administers in selecting clinical sites that best promote student learning. The SECEE Version 3 was used in all clinical courses at a large mid-Atlantic university from 2001 to 2005. Data from more than 2,700 inventories were analyzed to assess instrument reliability and validity. Internal consistency reliability based on coefficient alpha was .94, with subscale alphas ranging from .82 to .94. Comparisons by analysis of variance revealed significant differences in student evaluations based on both clinical sites and clinical faculty. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the predetermined three factors (subscales) and subscale item content, except for two items. The SECEE Version 3 demonstrated strong internal consistency reliability and the ability to discriminate between student evaluations of distinct clinical sites and faculty and provided practically useful information to both faculty and agency staff.

<p><strong>INTRODUCTION:</strong> The need for translation and validation of an assessment tool regarding the<em> </em>Clinical Learning Environment of nursing students in Greece is imperative, given that inappropriate research tools are frequently used. <strong>Τhe aim</strong> of this study was to validate and psychometrically test the Greek translation of the Student Evaluation of Clinical Educational Environment (SECEE) Version 3 Inventory, with a sample of senior nursing students during their clinical practice.</p><p><strong>METHODS:</strong><em> </em>Following a formal “forward-backward” method to translate the original SECEE into Greek, the scale was administered to 130 senior students. They also completed the Clinical Learning Environment and Supervision (CLES) Scale. Validity and reliability analyses were performed.</p><p><strong>RESULTS:</strong><em> </em>Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the SECEE subscales score was 0.89 for Instructor Facilitation of Learning (IFL), 0.84 for Learning Opportunities (LO) and 0.84 for Preceptor Facilitation of Learning (PFL). Test-retest reliability analysis in a subgroup of students (n=40) revealed good short term stability over a two week interval. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the three factor subscales for the Greek translation, as in the original scale. Construct validity was supported through the scale’s moderate correlation with CLES subscales, ranged from 0.163 to 0.317 for IFL, from 0.387 to 0.445 for LO and from 0.443 to 0.537 for PFL.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSIONS</strong><strong>: </strong>The Greek version of the SECEE is a psychometrically sound instrument that can be usefully implemented into clinical education to identify appropriate clinical sites and provide information about student perceptions regarding the adequacy of learning opportunities. <strong></strong></p>

This non-experimental, explanatory study examined the relationship between nursing student perceptions of the clinical learning environment and student caring self-efficacy. Also examined was the relationship between student perceptions of clinical faculty leadership behaviors and these variables. The study provided preliminary evidence of the relationship between student perceptions of leadership behaviors demonstrated by clinical nurse faculty and caring self-efficacy of nursing students. However, additional research is needed to better understand how the combination of environmental and personal factors in the clinical learning environment influences these behavioral outcomes.

Introduction: The clinical practice environment students have multiple roles as learners and service providers. At this time students are faced with a fluctuating, complex environment and far from the predictions and controls of academic teachers. The aim of this study was to evaluate nursing student satisfaction and perception of the learning environment in clinical practice.Methods: This study used correlational analytic survey methods with cross-sectional approach. A total of 164 nursing student were selected using a convenience sampling. The data were collected in three schools of nursing in East Java. Data were obtained using the Bahasa version of the Clinical Learning Environment, Supervisions and Nurse Teacher (CLES+T). The instrument showed good validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive analytic, Spearman rho correlation and logistic regression.Results: Respondents were 164 students, clinical learning practice is mainly determined by the role of nurse teacher (M = 3.82; SD = 0.496). Student satisfaction obtained at 56.7%. There was a significant relationship between clinical practice learning and student satisfaction with p-value 0.000. The highest correlation value is the role of lecturer nurse (r = 0.544), with value R2 = 0.377, the coefficient of β adjusted highest to 2.075.Conclusion: According to student perceptions, the content of supervisory relations, the pedagogy atmosphere in the ward/room and the role of the nurse lecturer contributed greatly to creating a conducive clinical learning environment.

Abstract Background Clinical experience is a crucial activity for nursing students. The way students` perceive clinical placement exerts an immense influence on the learning process. This study aims to test the psychometric properties of a 19-item version of the Clinical Learning Environment Inventory under Polish clinical conditions. Method For this study, Discriminant validity and Cronbach’s alpha reliabilities were computed. In order to measure content validity, the criterion validity Generalized Self Efficacy Scale and the Life Orientation Test - Revised were used. Results Cronbach’s Alpha for the Clinical Facilitator Support of Learning Scale and the Satisfaction with Clinical Placement scale is 0.949 and 0.901, respectively. The Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient indicates the existence of a positive correlation between the students’ satisfaction with clinical placement and their [overall] life optimism. Age correlates negatively with perceived teacher support and positively with satisfaction with clinical placement. The sense of self-efficacy correlates negatively with their satisfaction with clinical placement. Clinical Learning Environment Inventory − 19 could be a useful tool to evaluate the quality of the clinical learning process in Polish conditions.
