AbstractThe interrelationship of half-widths and intensities for the red, green and yellow lines is considered. This is a direct relationship for the green and yellow line and an inverse one for the red line. The difference in the relationships of half-widths and intensities for different lines appears to be due to substantially dissimilar structuring and to a set of line-of-sight motions in ”hot“ and ”cold“ corona regions.When diagnosing the coronal plasma, one cannot neglect the filling factor - each line has such a factor of its own.

Two new species of the genus Hisonotus are described from the upper Rio Tapajós basin, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. They are small species, growing up to about 30.0 mm SL, having the scapular bridge wide and totally exposed or having a small median pair of arrector fossae, and the abdomen completely covered with large plates in adult specimens (about 23.0 mm SL). They are distinguished from their congeners by the following combination of characters: Hisonotus chromodontus has 20-40 reddish-brown tipped premaxillary teeth, and 15-38 on the dentary bones; 2324 plates on the longitudinal series; a prominent large dark brown lateral stripe extending from the tip of the snout to the caudal blotch; transversal dark brown bars very inconspicuous or absent. Hisonotus luteofrenatus has a moderate number (12-28) of hyaline or slightly yellow-tipped premaxillary teeth, and 9-26 on the dentary bones; 25-26 plates on the longitudinal series; a characteristic yellow line extending from the anterior part of each orbit, over the inferior nostril, both converging to the tip of the snout.

New isotope hydrogeochemical data on two types of thermal water from the Bang spring (Kuang Binh province, central Vietnam) are reported in the work. The first type includes HCO3–Cl–Na–Mg water with extremely low mineralization (44–87 mg/dm3) and pH variations from weakly acidic to weakly alkaline values (5.71–7.84). The second type includes HCO3–Na water with mineralization up to 256–659 mg/dm3 and pH 8.03 to 8.51. The studied types differ significantly in temperature: 24.3–34.5°C in the first type and 62.1–97.1°C in the second type. The analysis of the distribution of oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δD) isotopes carried out for the first time confirms different genetic nature of these hydrogeochemical water types. The first type has an atmospheric genesis (δ18O = –7.3…–6.2‰ and δD = –51.4…–39.3‰), while the second type restricted to the Kien Giang–Bang intersection zone has a deeper source (δ18O = –1.6…–1.3‰ and δD = –22.2…–21.4‰). The tritium (3H) data also point to different circulation times of these waters. The formation time of the HCO3–Cl–Na–Mg waters does not exceed 50 years (3H = 4.3–11.1 ТЕ), while that of HCO3–Na water may reach more than 1000 years (3H = 0.5 ТЕ).

The main data on the occurrence of semi-dwarfs in the subspontaneous progeny of American red oak were researched. The grafting of scions from semi-dwarf trees on the stock of related species shortens the juvenile stage, i.e. accelerates the flowering, induces the self-fertilization and potential crossing of related species. The specific undertaking requires to: (1) define the desired type of the dwarf cultivar, (2) develop the model, and (3) plan the genetic nature of the conceived cultivar. The development of cultivars relies on the conceived and long-term activity.

Leeches were used in the treatment of many pediatric conditions until relatively recently. Many physicians prescribed leeches, especially in the treatment of the purported symptoms caused by teething. William Moss,1 for example, advised applying two or three leeches at one time on the foot or heel of teething infants where "bleeding is a remedy much to be depended on when the symptoms of heat, fever, drowsiness, and startings are urgent." The following is an excellent description of the indications for leeching in children, as given by Dr. James Kennedy in 1825: Leeching, so as to abstract blood from a particular part sustaining inflammation, fulness, or pain, is very useful in many diseases especially those of children. . . . When the leech is of the right or medicinal kind, its body has a blackish brown colour, marked on the back with six yellow spots, and edged with a yellow line on each side:—these spots, however, as well as the lines, grow faint and almost disappear at certain seasons. . . . The mouth forms, as it were, the body of a pump and its tongue the sucker; and, by the working of this . . . mechanism, the blood is made to rise up into the conduit which conveys it to the animal's stomach. . . . Leeches may be employed in every case where topical bleedings are required, or where venesection cannot be performed. Before applying them, all the parts should be carefully washed;—first, with hot water and soap, for the purpose of removing, as much as possible, the particles of the cutaneous excretion which the leech instinctively dislikes, especially if impregnated in any degree with the odour of medicine;—and secondly, with milk and water as warm as can be endured, with the object of stimulating the superficial vessels and filling them with red blood.
