Since the end of 2019, the occurrence of unexplained viral pneumonia has been reported in Wuhan. Higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia have decided to shift learning practices towards online learning systems to ensure the teaching and learning activities continue as usual. Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) established online classes, through live broadcast using Webex and to build a three-foot "cloud" podium for other network teaching styles. Therefore, this paper proposed a new model of a technology-driven e-flipped classroom for students’ engagement during and post COVID-19 pandemic.  Data was from 230 student of Strategic Management class, Universiti Utara Malaysia in the semester 1 2020/2021. Based on the analysis, this study found that Edmodo as an online learning platform and flipped classroom approach enhance student’s engagement through online activities carried out on their self-paced learning styles.

The purpose of the study is to examine and evaluate the impact the “flipped classroom” model-based learning environment accompanied by multimedia-based textbook entitled “English through Soft Skills” provides for the learning styles of the university students majoring in Economics. The study sought to identify tangible (seemingly measurable) and intangible (difficult to measure) gains the “flipped classroom” learning model brought to both students and instructors. A multimedia textbook “English through Soft Skills” was developed for the study. A multi method approach was used to gather feedback and quantitative methods were used to analyze the data. Specifically, Covariance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) software as SPSS AMOS and Textalyzer were used to process the students’ responses to survey questions. The results reported a shift in student preferences in learning, including a greater desire to engage independently with computer-assisted work, quicker problem solving, increased motivation to study, and improved time management and lifelong learning skills. Additionally, there was a shift in teaching approaches of the instructors, namely from a teacher-centered to a student-centered approach. The study may better inform building the learning process for the students with limited learning opportunities or studying the distance learning model. Despite the experimental group involving only the students majoring in Economics, this methodology could be applicable to teaching English for Specific Purposes to other majors, such as: Business, International Relations, Psychology, Law. The research is advancing the knowledge of integration multimedia tools into teaching, and specifically the use of multimedia textbooks in the “flipped classroom” settings to deliver Business English course to the students majoring in Economics

A project-based module on Sustainable Development Goal number 5, Gender Equality, was im-plemented on 5 different groups of Business English students consisting of a total number of 62 students in higher education. The main purpose of this project was to raise awareness of this goal by means of a flipped method in which students were required to carry out some research on specific areas of the aforementioned goal and work in teams to elaborate oral presentations. Once their findings were shared in class, students were expected to answer a written questionnaire of open-ended questions which were part of a qualitative analysis. Results of this survey showed that not only 90% of the students gained in depth knowledge of this goal, but also 85% had built a positive attitude to take initiative and 80% were optimistic about future gender equality. Finally, 70% of students suggested further social action to curb the problem of gender discrimination. On the whole, the flipped classroom method of learning combined with project-based group work have proven to be an effective way to raise awareness of this goal, create a more positive attitude, in-crease their willingness to take action as well as widening their English lexical resources.

This study explores the teaching approach of the general courses of theoretical knowledge targeted at the freshmen based on a pilot study of the course Research Methodology in School of English for International Business (SEIB) in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. A questionnaire survey of 163 freshmen who take the course at two consecutive terms indicates that the course is pedantic and lectures’ inputs are invariable and the teacher participation is insufficient. After implementing a teaching reform against these defects, the methods of adopting case study and improving teacher participation meet the expectation of students in spite that the teacher participation is over-performed. Meanwhile, the pedantic attribute of the course remains even with an attempt to diversify the lecture inputs and to reduce the ratio of English to Chinese as the working language in lectures. This study suggests that the general courses of theoretical knowledge should be put off to the second year of university. Flipped classroom philosophy is recommended where the pre-class preparation is enforced and the teacher performs as a learning assistant for the students when executing research projects.
