In dieser Arbeit wird das Konzept der Gouvernementalität des französischen Philosophen Michel Foucault (1926–1984) vorgestellt und seine Übertragung auf die Pflegewissenschaft aufgezeigt. Der Begriff Gouvernementalität entstammt den Spätschriften Foucaults und bildet eine Fortsetzung, Erweiterung und Akzentverschiebung seiner einflussreichen Analytik der Macht. Die Problemkomplexe Staat und Subjektivität kann Foucault mit der strategischen Konzeption von Macht nicht hinreichend unter einer einheitlichen analytischen Perspektive untersuchen. Erst mit dem Begriff der Regierung und dem Konzept der Gouvernementalität findet Foucault eine befriedigende Analysemethode. Machtbeziehungen werden hierbei unter dem Blickwinkel von Führung untersucht; so lassen sich Sozialtechnologien und Technologien des Selbst in ihrer Beziehung zueinander analysieren. Mittels dieser Perspektivenerweiterung gelingt die Analyse neoliberaler Gouvernementalität. Es lässt sich eine Neudefinition des Verhältnisses von Staat und Ökonomie aufzeigen, wobei der Markt zum regulierenden Prinzip des Staates wird und das Ökonomische alle Bereiche menschlichen Handelns umfasst. Die bisherige Foucault-Rezeption in der Pflegewissenschaft schließt (bis auf wenige Ausnahmen) nicht an die Spätschriften Foucaults an und bleibt damit in ihren Möglichkeiten begrenzt. Exemplarisch wird in dieser Arbeit der Qualitätsdiskurs und die Problematik der Bedürfnisinterpretation untersucht. In beiden Feldern lässt sich zeigen, wie sowohl die Patienten als auch die Pflegenden im Sinne neoliberaler Subjektbildung geformt werden und letztlich pflegerisches Handeln zu ökonomischem Handeln transformiert wird.

Over the last twenty years or so, fatness, pathologised as overweight and obesity, has been a core public health concern around which has grown a lucrative international weight loss industry. Referred to as a ‘time bomb’ and ‘the terror within’, analogies of ‘war’ circulate around obesity, framing fatness as enemy.2 Religious imagery and cultural and moral ideologies inform medical, popular and policy language with the ‘sins’ of ‘gluttony’ and ‘sloth’, evoked to frame fat people as immoral at worst and unknowledgeable victims at best, and understandings of fatness intersect with gender, class, age, sexuality, disability and race to make some fat bodies more problematically fat than others. As Evans and Colls argue, drawing on Michel Foucault, a combination of medical and moral knowledges produces the powerful ‘obesity truths’ through which fatness is framed as universally abject and pathological. Dominant and medicalised discourses of fatness (as obesity) leave little room for alternative understandings.

Readers of Giorgio Agamben would agree that the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900) is not one of his primary interlocutors. As such, Agamben’s engagement with Nietzsche is different from the French reception of Nietzsche’s philosophy in Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze and Georges Bataille, as well as in his contemporary Italian colleague Roberto Esposito, for whom Nietzsche’s philosophy is a key point of reference in their thinking of politics beyond sovereignty. Agamben’s stance towards the thought of Nietzsche may seem ambiguous to some readers, in particular with regard to his shifting position on Nietzsche’s much-debated vision of the eternal recurrence of the same.

El mito de Narciso puede servir como sugerente metáfora para plantear algunas cuestiones antropológicas y gnoseológicas fundamentales, sobre todo en lo que hace referencia a la peculiar relación del hombre consigo mismo. Tomando pie de esta historia se plantea aquí la tesis de que la autorreferencialidad es el destino inevitable del ser humano. Pero hay diversos modos de entender la autorreferencialidad, no hay que entenderla necesariamente como una estructura que aboque a un solipsismo inmanente insuperable. Tomando a Inciarte como trasfondo de estas reflexiones, se analiza esta problemática en los casos de Eugen Fink y Michel Foucault para mostrar esta diversidad de vías interpretativas.
