The Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry is generally slow in adopting emerging technologies, and such hesitance invariably restricts performance improvements. A plethora of studies have focused on the barriers, Critical Success Factors (CSFs), lifecycle and drivers independently, but none have explored the impact of BIM drivers and awareness on the project lifecycle. This study empirically explored the impact of BIM drivers and awareness on the project lifecycle using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Initially, a conceptual model was developed from an extensive literature review. Thereafter, the model was tested using primary questionnaire data obtained from 90 construction professionals in Lagos, Nigeria. Emergent findings indicate that Building Information Modelling (BIM) drivers have a high impact on BIM awareness at the operation stage of the project lifecycle. The SEM model has an average R2 value of 23% which is moderate. Consequently, this research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing invaluable insight into the impact of BIM drivers on BIM awareness in the project lifecycle. Knowledge acquired will help industry stakeholders and government to develop appropriate policies to increase BIM uptake within contemporary practice.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been viewed as capable of addressing the problems of the construction industry. Hitherto, some firms have acknowledged BIM as a novel way to work and gone on to record success, others (which have not so done) have elevated such questions as: ‘How is BIM defined? Is it a tool or a process? Which breeds and sizes of organizations stand to value from BIM?’ These questions formulate the basis of this research. Most of the buildings projects suffered from cumulative total cost and duration in Joran, therefore, there is a dire need for implementing BIM to control the claims in buildings projects in Jordan. This research study was pragmatic to assess the impact of implementation of BIM in building projects and to clarify its effect on controlling the claims that can be avoided by using BIM. The proposed BIM adoption plan is developed to analyze in depth by strategic analysis tools. PESTEL analysis is apprehensive about six issues; political, economic, socio- cultural, environmental, technological, and legal. Complete SWOT analysis is used as planning tool to understand strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, these strategic analysis tools aids to propose BIM adoption plan for building project describes by ADKAR change management model ; awareness ,desire ,knowledge ,ability and reinforcement. The outcomes of the research demonstrated that successful projects performed in the organizations that have used BIM is established on its adoption as a tool of technology, rather than as a process; a tool that transform the way, work in the construction industry is archetypally done. Additionally, the accomplishments recorded in the firms researched give credibility to project success consequent upon adopting BIM. Nonetheless, the conclusions of this research illustrate that the foundation of this success is leadership-driven innovation.

Architectural technology practice in Nigeria is influenced on the one hand by the drive to adopt technologically advanced techniques aimed at providing solutions to the existing challenges within the built environment, and on the other hand by constantly emerging socio-economic variables associated with high population growth, urban migration and resultant housing demands. From the outset of the drawing proposal to the entire lifespan of buildings, innovative developments in building information modelling (BIM) have enabled architectural technologists attain sustainable feats in the building industry. This study examined the curriculum for BIM training in polytechnics domiciled in Southeast Nigeria and the impact on sustainable development practice within the region. Sixtythree (63) architectural firms and three (3) polytechnics were randomly selected for this study. The survey research design was adopted in this study: two sets of structured questionnaires were administered to architectural technology graduates and their employers. 130 copies of questionnaire were administered to graduates of the institutions. The study revealed that 96% of the graduates had acquired some level of BIM proficiency; 56% acquired it from school, while 40% indicated it was acquired in practice after graduation. The result of correlation analysis showed that correlation between practice performance of technologists and proficiency in BIM is significant (p<0.01). The results of regression coefficients showed that proficiency in BIM had significant correlation with practice performance of the graduates. The study showed that course contents for courses in computer application did not extensively provide opportunities for graduates to acquire relevant skills. A robust review of the curriculum is needed to produce technically efficient technologists that can tackle the demands of the built environment for sustainable development to thrive.

Abstract. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been the most popular Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) technology and information management approach for the last 5 years. The popularity of the approach not only comes from its role in enabling an efficient exchange of information and collaboration between the stakeholders of a construction project, but also is related with the benefits it has provided in detecting possible errors in the design phase, and providing means for the elimination of these errors as early as possible and thus minimizing the time and financial loss in the project. The training related to BIM is provided in the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, also with certification programs. The viewpoint of the students/trainees is closely related to their attitude towards BIM. The research explained in this paper aimed to identify the viewpoint of design school students on Building Information Modelling. The study started with a literature review on the foundational concepts regarding BIM. The second stage of the study included data collection with a questionnaire survey. Later this data is explored through descriptive statistics, and some foundational hypothesis on the impact of group differences on the BIM viewpoint were tested. The findings indicate that the viewpoint of design school students shows a positive tendency towards using and implementing BIM in real-life projects. Besides, the group differences (such as gender, level, department) do not appear to have an impact on the viewpoint.
