Unlike the consequences of compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) and the profile of people with CSB that were extensively studied, the cognitive distortions that might be responsible to the development and maintenance of CSB are less understood. In Study 1 ( n = 68), we examined intercorrelations between CSB and early maladaptive schemas among a sample with clinical CSB (Sexaholic Anonymous; SAs). In Study 2 (sex offenders; n = 103, and violence offenders; n = 81), we examined the intercorrelations between CSB and early maladaptive schemas among a sample with a sexual deviance but non-clinical levels of CSB. Results revealed that early maladaptive schemas are highly indicative of CSB severity. We discuss the implication of the study for the study and therapy of CSB.

Glioblastoma is the most malignant and most common form of brain tumor, still today associated with a poor 14-months median survival from diagnosis. Protein kinase A, particularly its regulatory subunit R2Alpha, presents a typical intracellular distribution in glioblastoma cells compared to the healthy brain parenchyma and this peculiarity might be exploited in a therapeutic setting. In the present study, a third-generation lentiviral system for delivery of shRNA targeting the regulatory subunit R2Alpha of protein kinase A was developed. Generated lentiviral vectors are able to induce an efficient and stable downregulation of R2Alpha in different cellular models, including non-stem and stem-like glioblastoma cells. In addition, our data suggest a potential correlation between silencing of the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A and reduced viability of tumor cells, apparently due to a reduction in replication rate. Thus, our findings support the role of protein kinase A as a promising target for novel anti-glioma therapies.

I describe an undergraduate seminar course on psychotherapy that includes both didactic and experiential components. Students attend lectures, discuss case material, read texts on psychotherapy, and participate in role-playing sessions based on different theoretical orientations. These simulated therapy sessions are videotaped and shared during class. Students critique their own role-plays and receive feedback from peers both in and out of the classroom. Such a course improves communication stills and gives undergraduates hands-on experience in a simulated therapeutic setting. Course evaluations are summarised.

Purpose Professionals face substantial challenges determining whether and when children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are not yet using spoken words will use spoken language as their primary means of communication. This tutorial provides speech-language pathologists with practical guidance on how to measure expressive language predictors for progress monitoring and making intervention decisions for children with ASD who are preverbal. Method This tutorial is a repackaging effort that seeks to make the research accessible to clinicians wishing to implement evidence-based practice. Results We describe intentional communication, consonant inventory in communication acts, and responding to joint attention as particularly valuable prelinguistic skills to measure. We explain how and when to efficiently assess progress using published assessments periodically and using brief (5-min) communication samples for more frequent progress monitoring. Conclusions Communication samples can be used to show how a child performs within a therapeutic setting during teaching (treatment data) and outside of the therapeutic setting (generalization probe data). Both types of data are critical for determining whether the child is exhibiting progress and which aspects of intervention are facilitating progress toward use of spoken words. These recommendations also balance the evidence for best practices for progress monitoring and the demands on clinicians' time and effort. To encourage the measurement of prelinguistic skills of children with ASD who are preverbal in clinical practice, we include (a) example data collection documents, (b) examples with hypothetical data and interpretation, and (c) guidance on communication sampling procedures. This article aims to show that the practice of attention can create an openness to the truth, from where ethics arises. It does so by exploring the role attention plays, according to Ricoeur, in Freud’s thought. Ricoeur shows how in the first stage of Freud’s thinking – that of the Project of a Scientific Psychology – attention is one of the instances in which a purely mechanical quantitative explanation can be questioned. Further on, with the introduction of narcissism, Ricœur shows that attention, insofar as it opens a space for the “wounding truth,” opposes narcissism. Finally, the article explains how in the therapeutic setting an attentional epochē allows the therapist to be “the reality principle in flesh and in act,” so that the ego can gain control. According to Ricœur, this non-judgmental gaze opens a space of truthfulness for the patient’s self-knowledge which, although not being the totality of ethics, constitutes its threshold.

Sexual crimes have seen a considerably increase in Indonesia. It not only affects women but also children. Sexual crime against children is also known as “pedophilia” and has now become a terrifying phenomenon. The escalation of sexual crime against children in Indonesia shows that there is a dire need to look into possible prevention strategies to sexual crime prevention. Considering the rapid increase of case of pedophilia in Indonesia, the government has enacted more severe punisment to the offender, that is, by imposing chemical castration under the Law No. 17 Year 2016 on the second amendment of the Law No. 23 Year 2002 on child protection. This article examines the causal factors of pedophilia by employing the social bonds theory introduced by Travis Hirschi. The primary premise of this theory states that deliquency comes up when social bonds tend to be fragile or not unavailable, or in other words, the stronger there bonds, the less likelihood of delinquency. Hirschi also mentioned four social bonds that push up socialization and conformity in society, those are: attachment, commitment, involvement, dan belief. Finally, the problems raised in this article is how does pedophilia in perspective of social bonds theory?. This article is a legal research with normative approach. It is geared to look phaedophilia as a sexual deviance in perspective of social bonds theory.

The essay contextualises Lolly Willowes and The True Heart in relation to interwar ideas about landscape and ruralism. It argues that the protagonists Laura Willowes and Sukey Bond depart from normative relationships to the English countryside in order to orient themselves more independently in their worlds. It suggests that Warner invests in potentialities of what Sara Ahmed analyses as ‘disorientation’, and that in her nuanced evocations of sexual deviance, landscapes become a prompt for the discursive construction of queer subjectivities.
