Göç, göçmenlik ve mobilite kavramları gündelik hayat içerisinde ve medya da geçen söylemlerden, medya, politik ve akademik çalışmaların odağına kadar artan bir ivme ile ilgi konusu olmaya devam ettiği şu günlerde tüm editör arkadaşlarım adına, Göç Dergisi’nin 2018 yılının bu ilk sayısının yayımını bildirmekten mutluluk ve onur duyuyorum. Bu sayıdaki çalışmalar farklı örnekler ve farklı yöntemlerden hareket etmekle birlikte göç ve mobilite ilişkisinin çatışmalardan kaynaklı güvensizliklerle örülü dinamik bir süreç olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHMigration, migrancy and mobility concepts continue to be central to the debates in media, politics and academia as well as in daily and public discourses. Hence we as editors of Göç Dergisi are proud to bring you the first issue of 2018. Articles in this issue, tackling with the topic from different cases and using different methodologies, depict migration and mobility as a dynamic process intervowen by conflicts and insecurities.

AbstractThe pursuit of audience attention online has led organizations to conduct thousands of behavioral experiments each year in media, politics, activism, and digital technology. One pioneer of A/B tests was Upworthy.com, a U.S. media publisher that conducted a randomized trial for every article they published. Each experiment tested variations in a headline and image “package,” recording how many randomly-assigned viewers selected each variation. While none of these tests were designed to answer scientific questions, scientists can advance knowledge by meta-analyzing and data-mining the tens of thousands of experiments Upworthy conducted. This archive records the stimuli and outcome for every A/B test fielded by Upworthy between January 24, 2013 and April 30, 2015. In total, the archive includes 32,487 experiments, 150,817 experiment arms, and 538,272,878 participant assignments. The open access dataset is organized to support exploratory and confirmatory research, as well as meta-scientific research on ways that scientists make use of the archive.

Group discussions were conducted, in five different occupational categories, in a medium-sized Swedish town. The occupational areas were media, politics, business, culture and civil service. An analysis is presented of how the interviewees expressed their alcohol habits in serious speech as compared to humorous speech. The participants' statements concerning their own alcohol consumption are related to expressions of what are called modulations in systemic functional linguistics. These form part of the ideational component of language, which concerns the way we communicate experience. Our choice of modulations demonstrates our attitude to the conditions that we describe regulate our ability to act. In serious speech, the speakers tend to value cautious drinking, setting sharp limits to how and when the use of alcohol is appropriate. As regards humorous speech, however, the situation is to a large extent the opposite: the interviewees picture themselves as under external constraints in connection to alcohol. The issues where we find humour are also where we find controversy in serious speech. The differences of opinion that arise, concerning everyday habits and the role model one represents as a parent, give rise to a number of jokes. The parts of serious discource that concern other people display a very different content, having to do with drinking too much, not being able to handle one's liquor consumption and not being permitted to drink alcohol – a content reflected in humorous form when the interviewees talk about themselves.

This article reads media coverage of the May 2006 Beaconsfield Gold Mine rescue through the lens of disability. It argues that disability is essential to the way discourses of heroism, masculinity and nationalism were constructed in the rescue of the miners. However, the importance of disability to this, and other aspects of media, politics and society in Australia, was not well recognised — yet raises important questions.

ResumoA partir de uma crônica de Bráulio Tavares, este artigo reflete sobre cenas da precariedade de ontem e de hoje. A primeira cena está em Lima Barreto, em Recordações do escrivão Isaías Caminha, ao referir a Revolta da Vacina no Rio de Janeiro do século XX, comparada às manifestações de 2013 e 2014 no país; a segunda é a espetacularização da mídia sobre as manifestações de rua em 2013 e 2014, e sobre o processo de impedimento do mandato presidencial de Dilma Rousseff em 2015; a terceira é uma cena da vida cotidiana de uma moça de Brasília em outubro de 2014. As três situações revelam o mundo da classe trabalhadora e seu desamparo em meio ao espetáculo midiático.Palavras-chave: Trabalho. Mídia. Política. The first scene is in Lima Barreto’s novel Recordações do escrivão Isaías Caminha (Memories of the scrivener Isaías Caminha), when referring to the Vaccine Revolt in the Rio de Janeiro of the 20th century, compared to the manifestations of 2013 and 2014 in Brazil; the second is about the media spectacularization of the street manifestations between 2013 e 2014 in Brazil, and also on Dilma Rousseff's impeachment process in 2015; the third one is from the everyday life of a girl from Brasília in October of 2014.
