A fire of a mining dump truck increases the risk of tyre explosion. Mining equipment is extinguished by auxiliary mine rescue crew and mine rescuers who approach it at an unsafe distance. A tyre explosion creates a number of additional hazards that can lead to serious injury or loss of life. Studies indicate that such injuries primarily include barotrauma, eye and general bodily injuries caused by the impact of destroyed wheel elements. A methodology for calculating safe distances is required to ensure the safety of rescue work in open pit mines and quarries. The proposed methodology for estimating safe distances, which was developed based on conditions of a pressure vessel explosion, will reduce the risk of injuries to mine rescuers and members of auxiliary mine rescue crews. The use of existing protective equipment or development of new ones is justified by the presented analysis of injuries such as temporary loss of hearing, eardrum ruptures, brain contusions, loss of consciousness, internal injuries, dislocations, broken limbs and other types of injuries that are caused by tyre explosions.

The sense of security is an individual’s one-sided personal expression referring to one’s awareness of existing threats and potential possibilities of their prevention. Thus we can observe a permanent development of technologies developed to meet the needs of military operations aimed at neutralizing threats related to explosives of military origin, as well as any improvised explosive devices. Threats are the events that adversely affect life, health, property or the environment, therefore, the mentioned technologies can be used in the civilian market as well. This article presents military systems that have been developed by Alford Technologies Ltd. (‘The World’s Leading Provider of User-Filled Explosive Chargers and Disruptors’). The systems that have been named ReBar Cutters™ and DIOPLEX™ have been developed to save the lives of soldiers, military equipment and any relevant infrastructure while conducting a wide scope of combat operations throughout the world. The systems can for example be easily used as an alternative support for mining rescue teams during mine rescue operations. The authors intend to present the above-mentioned systems due to their precision, accuracy, and most importantly, because the products are user-filled and therefore can be prepared on site and ready to use very fast. Tests of systems named ReBar Cutters™ and DIOPLEX™ presented in the study were carried out in Zakłady Górnicze Polkowice-Sieroszowice Oddział KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. at a depth of 850 m in order to check their effectiveness in the future environment (pressure, humidity, temperature, dust). The presented shaped charges with cumulative insert were elaborated with explosives used in mining – RIOPRIME 25 (Mini Primer) and ERGODYN 22E – and used for the cut steel structural elements (steel anchor rod), steel leveling cable, sheathed electric mining cable and an element form bucket loader type LKP 903. The tests were not financed, and the obtained results were part of the research in one of the author’s PhD dissertation.

The article discusses the introduction of project-based learning methods in the educational process. The problems of organizing practical professional activities in higher education institutions are identified and the expediency of using project-based learning is justified. The methodology of project activity in the discipline is described on the example of "Safety of mining operations and mine rescue", which is studied by 5-year students in the specialty "Mining".

Purpose. The article discusses the possibility and necessity of forming and functioning of emergency rescue squads capable of carrying out a wide range of emergency rescue and other urgent operations at the mining industry facilities. Methods. The basis for theoretical researches was mathematical statistics methods, the mathematical modeling method, modeling and calculations related to the assessment of joint units forming and functioning for servicing hazardous production facilities of the mining industry. Findings. The study of statistical data on responses of the most loaded paramilitary mine rescue squads carried out on the territory of guarded hazardous production facilities of the mining industry of the Russian Federation for the period from 2015 to 2019 has been carried out. Substantiating the number of the mine rescue squads detachments for servicing calls has been carried out. The probabilistic, time and frequency characteristics of the failure-free call service have been used as criteria to substantiate the number n of the detachments. It has been found that accidents and incidents at mining sites are of a different nature, and mine rescue squads have a different load associated with the operational activity, which is explained by the industrial hazard of protected mining sites and industrial infrastructure. The main share of registered accidents at mining facilities are fires (52.4 %) and collapses (22.9 %). Research application field. The data obtained can be used in the organizational design of mine rescue units and services. Conclusions. The flow of destructive events at the mining industry facilities obeys the Poisson stationary distribution law, and the temporal characteristics of the mine rescue squads response process are described by the Erlang distribution. Methods of mathematical modeling functioning processes of urgent emergency rescue services can be used for organizational design of emergency rescue services and units at the mining industry facilities.

In this paper the methodology for increasing the management efficiency of seals con-struction by using cognitive work analysis is described. The results of cognitive modeling such as a way to reduce labour intensity and seals construction period during the mine rescue oper-ations focused on sealing entries and gob areas are obtained.
