The aim of this paper is to survey the decayed historic areas of Isfahan (DHI) in order to determine the relationship between housing satisfaction and quality of life. The related literature on quality of life was reviewed and WHOQOL-BREF model was selected for measuring the quality of life as a whole; also, 17 indicators depicting the housing domain of quality of life were chosen for the purposes of this study. A multi-stage sampling technique was applied to data collection. For data analysis, firstly, the data obtained on 17 indicators of housing domain of quality of life were analysed using factor analysis. The factors extracted are housing quality, housing space, security of tenure and housing affiliation. Secondly, a path diagram was applied to obtain the relation between housing satisfaction sub-domains and the domains of quality of life as a whole. The results indicate that the housing space was the most effective sub-domain of housing on the domains of quality of life as a whole. We also found that in order to improve the housing domain of quality of life in the DHI, due attention should be paid to housing quality factor and to improve quality of life as a whole in these areas, it is also necessary to pay attention to housing space factor.

Agribusiness has played a strategic role for Brazil's development with the challenge of sustainable agriculture. It is proposed to determine, through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the validity and effects of the relationships between socioeconomic factors of the sugarcane production system in Quirinópolis, providing subsidies to the decision-making process of agricultural establishments. The research methodological approach was quantitative, applying techniques of normality statistics, hypothesis and multivariate analysis without statistical significance (P <0,05). A path diagram model was developed that presented structural quality adjustment and its validated explanatory equations, obtaining relevant R2. The results demonstrate that the Equation 1 (IBCcane = 0.02Rcane - 0.75ICcane – 0.46ISVO + 0.35ISPS + error) is explained in 73.7% of its variance (R2), in the Equation 2 (ICcane = 0.59ISVO – 0.45ISPS + 0.35SizeEstablis + error) successor vocation affects 42% on production costs and in the Equation 3 (Rcane = -0.40 AgroDistance – 0.16ISPS + error) the distance between farm and agribusiness influences 72% on the proposed revenue mix. The SEM analysis verified that social factors influence the economic factors that compose the sugarcane production system studied. The path diagram proved that the influence track relative to the costs in the proposed model is more representative than revenue for the economic results of rural sugarcane establishments.

The article provides the results of the experimental research into the influence of different types of photo detectors of digital optical ministicks on their transformation function – the useful ministick signal as a function of the ministick control lever deviation value. The set problem was solved using experimental research methods. Circuits with a photo diode (PIN photodiode PD15– 21B/TR8 manufactured by Everlight company) and circuits with a phototransistor (phototransistor KP2012P3C manufactured by Kingbright company) were studied. An automated test bench was used for the research. The test bench allows setting the ministick rotation angle and the value of ministick lever deviation from the central position to the left or to the right. The influence on ministicks was set by the test bench software. Based on the test results the test bench software plotted a ray path diagram. The ministick signal quality was assessed in terms of resolution, accuracy, nonlinearity and hysteresis. The following results were obtained in the research. The ministick using a photo transistor as a photo detector ensures the output signal amplitude and resolution which exceed those of ministick with a photodiode by factor of 3.5 to 4. It allows using ministicks with a phototransistor for highprecision control of complex robotic systems, manipulators and aircraft, and for designing joysticks and unified humanmachine interfaces on their basis. The indices of precision, nonlinearity and hystere sis of both ministick types are comparable and meet the basic requirements applied to control devices. Thus, ministicks based on phototransistors can be regarded as the best in terms of the signal quality. Taking into consideration the circuitry, overall dimensions and the cost of hardware components which are identical for both photo detectors, ministicks based on phototransistors shall be considered to be more advanced switching devices.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the gap between two different mental models on interaction performance through a quantitative way. To achieve that, an index called mental model similarity and a new method called path diagram to elicit mental models were introduced. There are two kinds of similarity: directionless similarity calculated from card sorting and directional similarity calculated from path diagram. An experiment was designed to test their influence. A total of 32 college students participated and their performance was recorded. Through mathematical analysis of the results, three findings were derived. Frist, the more complex the information structures, the lower the directional similarity. Second, directional similarity (rather than directionless similarity) had significant influence on user performance, indicating that it is more effective in eliciting mental models using path diagram than card sorting. Third, the relationship between information structures and user performance was partially mediated by directional similarity. Our findings provide practitioners with a new perspective of bridging the gap between users’ and designers’ mental models.

The relationship between locus of control and achievement is clarified by disaggregating achievement into a momentary event (standardized test results) and continuing state (grade-point average) utilizing a path diagram approach. Although there are no substantial correlations among socioeconomic status, sex, and locus of control in this study, the three variables predict school achievement as a continuing state ( R = 33) considerably better than they do as a momentary event ( R = .56) of 174 students in Grade 8.
