The authors of this study have attempted to understand whether study habits affect academic achievement among secondary and senior secondary school students of Mysore. It is also attempted to know whether students at secondary level differ from senior secondary level on their study habits. The study was conducted on the sample of 625 students of Mysore City in India using stratified random sampling technique. Results indicated that the study habits facilitate higher academic achievement. Further, it was also found that secondary school students are significantly better than senior secondary students on study habits. The findings are analyzed and explained. Thus, study habit is found to be an important correlate of academic achievement.

The study attempts to develop the notion that networking among the teachers can influence the academic achievement of the students in a positive direction along with the smooth implementation of the curriculum at senior secondary level in the schools. In the current study, the syllabus of different subjects of Grade XI and XII has been overviewed and compared with each other on the basis of contents. The curriculum issued by Central Board of Secondary Education, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, Cambridge International Examination and some of the State Boards has been undertaken to review the syllabus of various subjects. It has been found that many topics are similar in the syllabus of two or more subjects. It has also been noticed that the teachers face challenges to complete the syllabus in the allotted numbers of classes throughout the year. If one teacher can teach effectively a topic which is being repeated in the other subject then such networking and coordination can save the time and energy of both the teachers as well as the students which in turn removes the other challenges in routine curriculum.

Scientific attitude towards science education facilitates twenty first century learning and provides a strong foundation for learners academic achievement. Science education at secondary level is placed as a backbone towards higher secondary level. The focus of the present study was to investigate the instructors and learners scientific attitudes towards physics at secondary level. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires by using survey research from 1000 random sampled respondents i.e. instructors and learners. Multistage stratified sampling technique was applied in the present research and the collected data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. A low level of learners attitude towards physics was found which reflects in learners academic achievement level in physics. Scientific approach among learners can be promoted through instructors attitudes towards physics at the secondary level, which will be beneficial for the development of Pakistan.

We studied the effect grade aspiration, confidence in achieving that grade, prior learning and university entrance ranking had on first year biology students’ final grade. We hypothesised that (1) students with higher aspiration will achieve higher grades than those with lower aspiration; (2) students with prior biology learning will have a higher grade aspiration and a higher confidence of achieving that aspiration than those without such learning; (3) university entrance rank will impact students’ final grade; and (4) students with prior biology learning will achieve a higher final grade than those without such study. We found that Hypotheses 3 and 4 were supported, Hypothesis 2 was partially supported, and that Hypothesis 1 was unsupported. If these results reflect broader patterns - that undergraduate student grade aspiration is not a predictor of their subsequent final grade - then targeted information and curricula scaffolding must be provided to better align student aspirations with their actual academic achievement.

The current paper investigated the effects of information and communication technology on the students’ academic achievement and retention in chemistry. Fifty students of 9th grade were selected randomly from Kohsar Public School and College Latamber Karak. The students were grouped into equivalent groups based on pretest score. In order to collect data, pretest posttest equivalent groups design was used. Mean, standard deviation and independent samples t-test were applied through SPSS for data analysis. Based on statistical analysis, it came to light that information and communication technology positively affects students’ academic achievement and retention and ICT was found more compelling, effective and valuable in teaching of chemistry when contrasted with conventional techniques of teaching. It is recommended that information and communication technology should be used in teaching chemistry for enhancing students’ academic achievement at secondary level.
