Abstract Introduction Burn is one of the most severe traumas that causes coagulative destruction of the skin. The use of various products that accelerate wound healing in patients with burn may affect the patient’s survival and reduce the complications that may be seen. In the present study we aimed effects of subcutaneous ozone injection on second degree burn wound. Methods A total of 72 Sprague-Dawley male rats included in the study were divided randomly into three groups (control group (CG), silver sulfadiazine group (SG), ozone group (OG)) and each group was divided randomly two subgroups (as sacrificed on d7 and on d14).A deep second degree scald burns were created on the lower back. In CG subcutaneous 0.9% serum saline was injected daily into the burn area. In SG, burns were dressed with silver sulfadiazine daily and in OG subcutaneous ozone was injected daily into the burn area. Tissue hydroxyproline level measurement and histopathological evaluation were done. Results When the groups were compared in terms of weight change, no significant difference was found on the 7th and 14th days. In the evaluation made in terms of tissue hydroxyproline, tissue hydroxyproline level in OG was found to be significantly higher on both the 7th and 14th days (p < 0.001). In histopathological evaluations, it was determined that wound healing in OG was significantly higher than in the other groups. Conclusions According to the results, subcutaneous ozone therapy is more effective than silver sulphadiazine in the healing process of second-degree burn wounds and it can be safely used in the treatment of burn wounds.

Background. Low-cost and safe strategies to improve wound healing will be of great social and economic value. The goal of this pilot clinical trial is aimed at analyzing how effective insulin therapy is at healing wounds in nondiabetic people. Methods. In this protocol research, 346 individuals were included. Patients were divided as 2 groups at random: experimental patients were given a ten-unit answer. For each 10 cm2 of wound, insulin was injected in solution with 1 mL 0.9 percent saline, whereas the control group got a standard dressing with normal saline. Results. During the therapy period, no adverse effects were reported. After insulin therapy, no substantial insulin-related side effects were reduced. After 10 days of therapy, the experimental group’s granulation tissue coverage rate and thickness were considerably improved as compared to control. Furthermore, a momentous difference in the occurrence of wound bleeding and suppurative wounds between the two groups ( P = 0.05 ). Conclusion. The results of this pilot research suggest that insulin injections could harmless and effective alternative therapy for wound healing in nondiabetic individuals and that larger, placebo-controlled trials are needed to evaluate effectiveness and safety of insulin treatment in wound healing patients.

Skin aging is an inevitable physiological process and periorbital wrinkling is an active sign of the process. Laser therapy is an effective method for improving periorbital wrinkles and wound care after laser therapy can accelerate the wound healing process. This case report describes a typical case of a 47-year-old male that presented with a 10-year history of gradually-worsening bilateral periorbital wrinkles. These were treated using a 2940 nm erbium (Er):YAG lattice laser combined with recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) gel and hydrogel (HG) treatment on the left side of his face compared with laser therapy and bFGF gel on the right side of his face. HG combined with bFGF gel treatment after 2940 nm Er:YAG lattice laser therapy improved postoperative swelling and pigmentation compared with bFGF gel alone; and it promoted periorbital wrinkle improvement and wound healing. In conclusion, HG combined with GFs after laser therapy could be an alternative therapy for periorbital wrinkles.

The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Unna’s boot and ozone therapy on chronic venous leg ulcers. Seven patients with chronic venous leg ulcers were taken into the study and were randomly divided into two groups: Unna’s boot treatment group (BU); Ozone treatment group (OZ). The therapies were performed weekly until wound closure. The morphological descriptive results demonstrated that during the treatments, it was possible to observe the presence of semi-planar borders, granulation tissue, reduction of edema, fibrin and exudate and absence of odor. These morphological modifications were more pronounced in the OZ when compared to the BU. Furthermore, both treatments promoted the same wound healing time, never the less the ozone therapy produced a higher percentage of weekly wound reduction compared to Unna's boot. Unna's boot and ozone therapy treatments appeared to positively impact the course of wound healing in chronic wounds, however the ozone therapy may improve the healing of chronic venous leg ulcers in a higher weekly percentage.

Management of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is a great challenge for clinicians. Although the oxygen-ozone treatment improves the diabetic outcome, there are few clinical trials to verify the efficacy and illuminate the underlying mechanisms of oxygen-ozone treatment on DFUs. In the present study, a total of 50 type 2 diabetic patients complicated with DFUs, Wagner stage 2~4, were randomized into control group treated by standard therapy only and ozone group treated by standard therapy plus oxygen-ozone treatment. The therapeutic effects were graded into 4 levels from grade 0 (no change) to grade 3 (wound healing). The wound sizes were measured at baseline and day 20, respectively. Tissue biopsies were performed at baseline and day 11. The expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) proteins in the pathologic specimens were determined by immunohistochemical examinations. The effective rate of ozone group was significantly higher than that of control group (92% versus 64%,P<0.05). The wound size reduction was significantly more in ozone group than in control group (P<0.001). After treatment, the expressions of VEGF, TGF-β, and PDGF proteins at day 11 were significantly higher in ozone group than in control group. Ozone therapy promotes the wound healing of DFUs via potential induction of VEGF, TGF-β, and PDGF at early stage of the treatment. (Clinical trial registry number isChiCTR-TRC-14004415).

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the effects of the use of sunflower seed oil on the treatment of skin wounds. METHODS: Eighteen male Saint Inês lambs were divided in 3 groups according to the pos-operative (7, 14 and 21 days). After antisepsis and local anestesia, two 4cm² wounds on each side of the thoracic region, close to the scapule were surgically produced. The experimental wounds were treated with sunflower seed oil, with high concentration of linoleic acid (LA), and the control ones with sterilized Vaseline. Biopsies of the pos-operative wounds tissue were performed on the 7th, 14th, 21st days and histologically evaluated. RESULTS: Topic application of sunflower seed oil accelerated healing process at the 7th and 21st days, reducing wound area and increasing wound contraction. Granulation tissue increased faster on treated wounds. The epidermis of the treated wounds was completely recovered when compared to control wounds. CONCLUSION: The topic use of sunflower seed oil accelerated the healing process, and it can be used as an alternative therapy on second intention wound healing.
