AbstractEchinococcosis is an infection caused in humans by Echinococcus granulosus which produce cystic hydatid disease. It is prevalent in most areas with livestock is raised in association with dogs. Liver is the most common site of this infection. We are presenting a case of 19-year-old adult who had chronic cough and pleuritic pain due to hydatid cyst in left lung.

Hydatid cyst is a very significant health problem in India. As recorded in the literature, majority of hydatid cysts are found in the liver followed by the lungs with an incidence rate of 60-70% and 10-15% respectively. Cystic hydatid disease in bones is seen in less than 4% of cases, with majority presenting in the spine. In this case report we have discussed primary intraspinal extradural hydatid cyst with paravertebral extension (dumbbell shaped) in lumbar vertebra which is a rarity. The diagnosis was established intraoperatively based on the findings with a follow up and review of literatures, along with its management.

This paper presents a successful behavioral case study in treatment of chronic refractory cough in a 60-year-old adult female. The efficacy for speech-language pathology treating chronic cough is discussed along with description of treatment regime. Discussion focuses on therapy approaches used and the patient's report of changes in quality of life and frequency, duration, and severity reduction of her cough after treatment.

AbstractIsolated cardiac involvement in hydatid disease is very rare. We report the case of a young adult male who presented to the emergency department with acute onset of chest pain and was surprisingly detected to have a hydatid cyst in the left ventricular myocardium. The transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the diagnosis. Cardiac hydatid disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chest pain in young individuals in the absence of conventional risk factors of atherosclerosis.

AbstractCardiac hydatid cysts are a rare presentation of hydatid cyst disease in the body, with a reported cardiac involvement rate of <2%. The left ventricle is the most common site of cardiac involvement. Here, we report a patient with a hydatid cyst that ruptured into the pericardium after producing an aneurysm on the right ventricular free wall, appearing as fibrinated fluid and a solid mass lesion in the pericardium. Our aim in this case report was to emphasise that the possibility of a hydatid cyst should not be overlooked in the differential diagnosis of pericardial tumours.

Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bones caused by pyogenic organisms. The ribs are an extremely uncommon site for osteomyelitis, occurring in less than 1% cases. The main causative organisms are Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Hemophilus influenzae. Gram-negative bacteria like E. coli have been rarely reported. Authors hereby present a case of an immune-competent patient who presented with an osteomyelitis of the ribs caused by the latter. In developing countries, tuberculosis is considered as the primary cause of osteomyelitis and pleural effusions. However, other organisms should also be considered in patients who present with fulminant infections.

Chest pain is an extremely common presenting complaint on the acute medical unit. It is important to distinguish between patients who have serious pathology and those without. Often, the focus is on ruling out an acute coronary syndrome and inadequate consideration is given to other possible causes. This case highlights the importance of performing relevant investigations in a timely manner, in order to ensure that a correct diagnosis is made.

A woman complaining of dyspnea and chest pain since childhood, was referred to our hospital with an initial diagnosis of biventricular hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Multimodality imaging evaluation revealed massive right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy and severe RV outflow tract obstruction, with a final diagnosis of double chambered RV associated with small ventricular septal defect with right-to-left shunt and right partial anomalous pulmonary vein return. This represents an uncommon combination of congenital abnormalities, extremely rarely diagnosed in adulthood.

ABSTRACT Echinococcosis is a ubiquitous zoonosis. The causal organism is a flat tapeworm whose larval form causes infestations in human beings, who are its accidental hosts. It is known to occur in all parts of the body with the highest incidence in the liver, followed by the lung. Hydatid cysts in the neck are rare by themselves. We report a case of hydatidosis of the lung and central compartment of the neck, in a man who presented with pulmonary symptoms only. Computerized tomogram of the chest had revealed a hydatid cyst in the left lung and another incidental hydatid cyst in the neck. He underwent successful excision of both the cysts in one sitting.
