New Record of Macrobrachium lar (Fabricius, 1798) (Crustacea: Decapoda: Palaemonidae) from Al-Hammar Marsh, Southern Iraq

A species of freshwater prawn Macrobrachium was newly recorded from Al-Hammar marsh, Southern Iraq. Morphological features accompanied by 18 S r DNA analyses indicated that the species is Macrobrachum lar. DNA sequences of specimens of this species from the marsh is deposited at the GenBank for DNA as a new global isolate and was published by The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) and DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ). M. lar inhabit deep sections of streams and brackish water, adults live in freshwater, while juveniles can be found in brackish or saltwater, the total length of M. lar recorded in this study was ranged between 72 and 109 mm for males and between 61 and 93 mm for females.

The Hawaiian river shrimp Macrobrachium grandimanus (Randall, 1840) is an amphidromous brackish water prawn that inhabits the Hawaiian Islands (type locality), Ryukyu Islands, Melanesia (Fiji, New Caledonia), and Polynesia (Tonga). Here, we report a new record of this species from Guam, Micronesia. Two genetically and morphologically differentiated lineages of this species are known: the Hawaiian and the Ryukyu lineages. Morphological and mitochondrial DNA analyses revealed that the Guam population is closely related to the Ryukyu lineage.

Seven species of freshwater crabs from three families are recorded from and around the Danum Valley Conservation Area in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo: Thelphusulacapillodigitus sp. n., Thelphusuladicerophilus Ng & Stuebing, 1990, Arachnothelphusaterrapes Ng, 1991, Terrathelphusasecula Ng & Tan, 2015, Parathelphusavalida Ng & Goh, 1987 (new record) (Gecarcinucidae); Isolapotamoningeri Ng & Tan, 1998 (Potamidae); and Geosesarmadanumense Ng, 2002 (Sesarmidae). The new species of Thelphusula Bott, 1979, can be distinguished from all congeners by a unique combination of morphological features, most notably the presence of dense patches of short setae on the fingers of the adult male chelipeds, as well as the structure of the male first gonopod. Arachnothelphusaterrapes is confirmed to be a phytotelm species. A key to all species in the conservation area is provided.

<p>ABSTRAK</p><p>Upaya untuk menurunkan kandungan nikotin merupakan salah satuprioritas utama penelitian tembakau. Nikotin adalah senyawa alkaloidutama berpotensi dikonversi menjadi senyawa nor-nikotin yang bersifatkarsinogen. Gen PMT sebagai penyandi enzim putresin n-metiltransferase(PMT) dan gen QPT - penyandi enzim quinolinat fosforibosiltransferase(QPT) merupakan dua gen kunci yang berperan penting pada proses bio-sintesis nikotin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi potongan genPMT dan QPT asal tembakau lokal Indonesia, mengkarakterisasi danmenganalisis runutan DNA-nya. Tahapan penelitian dimulai dengan me-rancang primer degenerate berdasarkan informasi yang ada di pangkalandata Bank Gen NCBI (National Centre for Biotechnology Information),mengamplifikasi PCR menggunakan templat DNA genomik tembakaulokal cv. Sindoro1, mengklon potongan DNA hasil PCR dan menentukanrunutan DNA-nya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari dua belas pasangprimer degenerate yang dirancang, hanya dua pasang primer yang meng-hasilkan potongan DNA hasil amplifikasi PCR, yaitu pasangan primerPMt-7 (F &amp; R) untuk gen PMT dan primer QPt-3 (F &amp; R) untuk gen QPT.Setelah dilakukan penentuan runutan DNA-nya, amplikon yang didapatdari hasil PCR dengan pasangan primer PMt-7 sebesar 1418 bp, sedangkanuntuk primer QPt-3 sebesar 205 bp. Runutan DNA gen PMT dan gen QPTasal tembakau lokal cv. Nicotine is the main alcaloid compound that potentiallycould be converted into a carcinogenic compound (nor-nicotine). The PMTgene encoding putrescine N-methyl transferase (PMT) and the QPT gene -encoding quinolinate phosphoribosyl transferase (QPT) are the two keyenzymes involved in nicotine biosynthesis. The objectives of this researchwere to isolate PMT and QPT gene fragments originated from Indonesianlocal tobacco, to characterize, and to analyze their DNA sequences. Theresearch activities included: degenerate primer design based oninformation available in the GenBank DNA Database NCBI (NationalCentre for Biotechnology Information), PCR amplification usingdegenerate primer and genomic DNA template of a local tobacco cv.Sindoro1, clone the PCR amplified products, and determine their DNAnucleotide sequences. Results of the experiment indicated that from 12degenerate primer pairs synthesized, only two were able to yield positivePCR amplified products. These primer pairs were PMt-7 (F &amp; R primers)for PMT and QPt-3 (F &amp; R primers) for QPT. After DNA sequencing, theamplified DNA product amplified using PMt-7 degenerate primer pairswere 1418 bp, while that using QPt-3 primer pairs were only 205 bp.Nucleotide sequences of PMT or QPT gene fragments originated fromlocal tobacco cv. Abstract Dacrymycetes has four families and 13 genera, few of them with molecular data available and then usually polyphyletic in phylogenetic analyses. Dacrymyces Nees is one of the polyphyletic genera in Dacrymycetes and it was introduced to accommodate one species, D. stillatus Nees. The morphological features of the genus are a homogeneous composition of the intra-structure and an amphigenous or superior hymenium. In this study, we included Neotropical specimens in the phylogeny of the Dacrymycetes and Dacrymyces s.s. is emended to include species with resupinate basidiomata, unilateral hymenium and heterogeneous context. In this new delimitation, the new species Dacrymyces flavobrunneus is described using morphological and molecular data and three new combinations (D. ceraceus comb. nov., D. maxidorii comb. nov. and D. spathularia comb. nov.) are proposed based on DNA analyses.

Two species of Xanthagaricus discovered in Hubei Province of China are described based on the macro- and micromorphological features. Their identity is further supported by molecular analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal RNA gene. The phylogeny obtained here showed that one of the Chinese species is nested in an exclusive clade which in combination with its striking morphological features, infers that it represents a new species, named X. ianthinus, while the other species is placed as a member in the X. epipastus clade. Descriptions are accompanied with illustrations of macro- and micromorphological characters and a discussion of related taxa is presented.

A small freshwater prawn in Thailand has been found to be a new species and is named Macrobrachium suphanense (Decapoda: Palaemonidae). Fully grown male M. suphanense appeared very different from the most closely related male of M. sintangense: size smaller, second pereiopod smaller and less robust, rostrum form different and, in females, fewer eggs. Less closely related, fully grown M. dolatum has sharper distal cutting edge on fixed finger and M. hungi has longer rostrum than M. suphanense. DNA analyses put M. suphanense, M. sintangense and M. nipponense in the same clade with M. nipponense sister to the other two. Two more clades consist of M. dienbienphuense and M. niphanae on the one hand and M. lanchesteri and M. rosenbergii on the other. The relationship among the three clades is not clearly resolved.

AbstractSince 1961 the Laboratory for statistical analysis of ancient languages (LASLA) at the University of Liège has recorded a high number of ancient Latin texts in a computer format. For each of the approximately 1,800,000 words of the corpus lexicological, morphological and syntactical information has been entered. The complete data bank is now accessible through the Internet: an inquiry software package makes it possible for any researcher to look up all occurrences of a specific language feature either in the whole corpus or in the works of a given writer. Research can be done either on a lexis item, or on a type of subordination, or again on the basis of morphological features. The system, which still has to be further developed, is available for anyone who files a request.
