Abstract Vulcanizate properties of a new high performance elastomer, a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, perfluoro (methyl vinyl ether) and a small amount of a third perfluoromonomer containing an active cure site, are described. The material may be compounded with various reinforcing agents (black exhibits the greatest reinforcing power) or as a gum stock. Perfluorinated oils such as Krytox § may be added as plasticizers. The vulcanizates show outstanding chemical resistance to many alkalies, acids, oxidizing agents and reducing agents; outstanding resistance to air oxidation at temperatures in the 400 ° – 550 ° F range; low volume swell in many organic fluids such as ketones, esters, nitriles, hydrocarbons and halogenated solvents, including the proprietary hydraulic fluids and jet fuels; and good high temperature (to 550 ° F) compression set.

An attempt has been undertaken to assess the effect of RP-3 jet fuel and 4109 lubricant on the mechanical, swelling properties and compression set of two kinds of fluorosilicone rubber (FSR) which are self-made and provided by Dow corning, and are marked as FSR A and FSR B respectively. Results showed that FSR B has better chemical resistance and comparable mechanical properties with that of FSR A, and are promising candidates for the development of high performance sealing materials.

This paper describes a method for the simultaneous detection and quantification of six sul-fonamides in chicken meat using normal phase cartridge clean-up and HPLC with UV detection . A liquid – liquid extraction and Sep- Pak silica clean-up procedure which minimizes the presence of halogenated solvents was used for sample preparation . The HPLC determination was performed using a RP C 18 column and sulfonamides were detected at 266 nm. Mobile phase was 0.01 M ammonium acetate pH 4.6 ( A ) and methanol ( B). Chromatographic separation was obtained by gradient elution ( 22 % B to 50 % within 17 min , back to 22 % in 2 min, equilibration for 5 min).Average recoveries of analytes from spiked meat were higher than 74 % .

<div> <div> <div> <p>Near-term decarbonization of aviation requires energy-dense, renewable liquid fuels. Biomass- derived 1,4-dimethylcyclooctane (DMCO), a cyclic alkane with a volumetric net heat of combustion up to 9.2% higher than Jet-A, has the potential to serve as a low-carbon, high- performance jet fuel blendstock that may enable paraffinic bio-jet fuels to operate without aromatic compounds. DMCO can be produced from bio-derived isoprenol (3-methyl-3-buten-1- ol) through a multi-step upgrading process. This study presents detailed process configurations for DMCO production to estimate the minimum selling price and life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint considering three different hydrogenation catalysts and two bioconversion pathways. The platinum-based catalyst offers the lowest production cost and GHG footprint of $9.0/L-Jet-Aeq and 61.4 gCO2e/MJ, given the current state of technology. However, when the conversion process is optimized, hydrogenation with a Raney nickel catalyst is preferable, resulting in a $1.5/L-Jet-Aeq cost and 18.3 gCO2e/MJ GHG footprint if biomass sorghum is the feedstock. This price point requires dramatic improvements, including 28 metric-ton/ha sorghum yield and 95-98% of the theoretical maximum conversion of biomass-to-sugars, sugars-to-isoprenol, isoprenol-to-isoprene, and isoprene-to-DMCO. Because increased gravimetric energy density of jet fuels translates to reduced aircraft weight, DMCO also has the potential to improve aircraft efficiency, particularly on long-haul flights. </p> </div> </div> </div>

Abstract Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most used polymers for microporous membrane fabrication due to its good thermal stability, chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and low cost. There have been numerous studies reporting the developments and applications of PP membranes. However, PP membrane with high performance is still a challenge. Thus, this article presents a comprehensive overview of the advances in the preparation, modification and application of PP membrane. The preparation methods of PP membrane are firstly reviewed, followed by the modification approaches of PP membrane. The modifications includes hydrophilic and superhydrophobic modification so that the PP membranes become more suitable to be applied either in aqueous applications or in non-aqueous ones. The fouling resistant of hydrophilized PP membrane and the wetting resistant of superhydrophobized PP membrane are then reviewed. Finally, special attention is given to the various potential applications and industrial outlook of the PP membranes.

Pumice is a volcanic rock that consists of a highly vesicular rough textured volcanic glass. It is very porous and shows a high absorption - it can contain a lot of water. Thanks to its low volume density, it is sometimes used as a light natural aggregate, especially for some small elements such as chimney blocks. The paper is focused on the development of concretes and mortars for these purposes. The optimum content of pumice was specified from the point of view of mechanical properties. Special attention was paid to absorbed water - it can be a source of self-curing of concrete.
