The adoption of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) by State Corporations in Kenya is a mandatory requirement and yet, the information on levels of adoption amongst Commercial State Corporations, most of which continue to experience poor performance due to weak governance is scanty. The objective of the study was to establish the relationship between transformational leadership and enterprise risk management adoption. This study adopted a positivist research philosophy and cross-sectional survey design approach. The target population comprised all the Commercial State Corporations in Kenya listed in the register of State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) as at January 2021. The unit of analysis was the 52 Commercial State Corporations and unit of observation was top management of each entity. The researcher applied purposive sampling to select top management and surveyed the total population of top management that derived a sample size of 364 participants. The study used primary data which was collected through structured questionnaires. The descriptive and inferential statistics was employed in the analysis. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 22) was used in regression modeling for prediction and causal inferences between study variables. The study findings indicated that Transformational Leadership has a significant relationship with ERM adoption. The study recommends that commercial state corporations embrace transformational leadership in order to enhance ERM adoption. In today’s dynamic and competitive business environment, organizations are adopting the enterprise risk management framework to address the inadequacies in risk management in entities. Operating in today’s dynamic and competitive business environment organizations are faced with ever evolving risks as they implement their strategic objectives in order to create value. This study examined the intervening effect of corporate strategy on the relationship between transformational leadership and enterprise risk management adoption. This research adopted a positivist research philosophy and cross-sectional survey design approach. The target population comprised all the Commercial State Corporations in Kenya listed in the register of State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC) as at January 2021. The unit of analysis was the 52 Commercial State Corporations and unit of observation was top management of each entity. The study used primary data which was collected through structured questionnaires. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 22) was used in regression modeling for prediction and causal inferences between study variables. The study findings indicated a partial mediation effect on the mediating role of corporate strategy on the relationship between transformational leadership and ERM adoption. The objective was achieved. The study recommends that the commercial state corporations should anchor the ERM adoption activities and other management programmes in the corporate strategic plan for effective execution. In addition, the corporate strategic plan should be cascaded to stakeholders to enhance ownership and design policy to ensure the implementation of the corporate strategic plan is effectively monitored. In the current dynamic environment, organizations need a more anticipatory and effective risk management system. Implementing the holistic Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process will perceive, analyze, and assess risks as they must be regarded from the entire enterprise’s perspective. The research aims to empirically analyze the effect of ERM practices on the Competitive Advantage (CA) and examine the moderating role of Organizational Culture (OC) in the Software industry of Pakistan. The primary data were obtained from 250 respondents through the questionnaire method. The validity and reliability were analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling Analysis, PLS Algorithm, and Bootstrapping. The results show that the implementation of ERM has a significant effect on firms’ competitive advantage. The analysis supports the hypothesis and identifies the positive moderating effect of organizational culture in carrying out ERM programs, which can enhance organizational competitiveness. This study is useful for managers to help them in the planning and decision-making phase so that they can act responsibly in a rapidly changing environment and consider organizational culture as one of the key factors of the ERM program that helps accomplish organizational competitiveness.

AbstractThe survival rate of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) have been found to be low despite all the effort made by the government to sustain their existence. This seems to be linked to the poor management of various risk factors confronting the operators of the sector in Nigeria. In view of this, the study is aimed at determining the influence of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) practices on survival of SMEs in Lagos State. With the application of cross-sectional survey technique, a sample of 400 operators was selected among SMEs across Lagos State. Data which were generated through structured questionnaires were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. Results indicate that ERM practices significantly influence the survival of SMEs in Lagos State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that SMEs owners should take ERM practices as a valuable business function that enhances survival. Also, government should continue to sensitise SMEs on the benefits of ERM and put in place mandatory ERM guidelines to compel SMEs to practice it.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent to which insurance companies in Kenya have adopted ERM process, and then to assess the maturity, challenges and strategies in the implementation of this process.Materials and methods: The research design adopted for the study is descriptive research. The researcher conducted a survey on the 49 insurance companies of Kenya to encapsulate the factors that are relevant in articulating the extent of adoption of ERM and the level of maturity. A sample of 196 respondents was selected from a population of 245 respondents. The study used quantitative and qualitative methods of data analysis. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 program was used for analysis. The results were presented using tables and pie charts. Similarly, qualitative data was summarized and categorized according to common themes and presentedin continuous prose form.Results: The study concluded that organizational related challenges hindered implementation of ERM programs. Results revealed that inadequate application of the risk management framework, ambiguity in roles and responsibilities in risk management, complexities in risk measurement, lack of embodiment of ERM in organizational culture, difficulty in risk quantification, linking risk information to strategic decision making, ensuring that all decisions remain within the organization’s risk tolerance, proactively identifying current and emerging risks, cost and budgetary constraints, misalignment of the risk and business operating models, risk management not seen as a priority by top management and inadequate information to make risk-based decisions hindered implementation of ERM frameworks among insurance firms in Kenya. The findings imply that organization related challenges have a significant effect on ERM implementation.Recommendations: The study recommends that there should be better organizational strategies to help improve implementation of ERM programs. It was found that building a strong risk culture, engaging consultants, building a dedicated ERM function, committed board of directors and top management, developing risk appetite statement, appointment of a Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and availing ERM budgets improved the implementation of ERM programs. Key words: enterprise risk management, adoption, maturity

This study aims to identify the level of transformational leadership of principals and the level of school effectiveness in TS25 schools in Gua Musang District, Kelantan. In addition, this study also seeks to look at the relationship between the two variables involved, transformational leadership and school effectiveness. This quantitative study by cross-sectional survey method used two types of instruments, namely the Transformational leadership instrument by Leithwood and Jantzi (1999) and the school effectiveness instrument adapted from the study of Lazaridou and Iordanidis (2011. The sampling of the study involved four TS25 secondary schools with a total of 162 teachers. The findings of the study showed that the level of transformational leadership of principals and the level of school effectiveness was at a high level, with values (M = 4.17, SP = .604) and (M = 4.19, SP = .613) respectively. Further, correlation analysis showed that there was a very strong and significant relationship (r = .89, p <.01) between the two variables involved, namely transformational leadership and school effectiveness. It is hoped that the findings of this study can be used as a guide by the parties involved, especially the Ministry of Education Malaysia in strengthening the characteristics of high-performing leadership among school administrators towards improving school effectiveness through professionalism programs.

This study aims to examine the relationship between enterprise risk management (ERM) implementation and firm performance in Malaysia. Using the sample from 2010 to 2016, this study examines the relationship between ERM and firm performance among Malaysian top 100 public listed firms registered on the Index FTSE Bursa Malaysia 100 (FBM100) KLSE. This study also provides comparisons before and after the introduction of Bursa Malaysia Guidelines 2013. This study shows a positive and significant coefficient between profitability and firm performance towards ERM implementation. However, this study shows insignificant relationship between firm size, financial leverage and audit firm with firm performance. This study also shows that there is an increase in the mean score and standard deviation of these variables after the implementation of Bursa Malaysia Guideline 2013. The findings in this study provides an understanding to the Malaysian public listed firms on the importance of ERM and subsequently, maximise the benefits of ERM especially after the introduction of Bursa Malaysia Guidelines 2013 for the benefits of their stakeholders and regulatory improvement in future.

The major purpose of this study is to examine the effects of social media advertising on the purchase behaviour of young university students. The study employed an exploratory research design and cross-sectional survey technique. On the basis of a comprehensive literature review, research hypotheses were formulated to investigate the relationship between study variables. The primary data were collected using questionnaires from students of public sector universities operating in the city of Faisalabad, Pakistan. Non-probability and convenience sampling were adopted in the selection of target respondents, which were 283 students, both day-scholars and boarding students. The findings reveal that social media advertising affects the purchasing behaviour of social media users. The recommendations of the study are that the companies should concentrate more on promotional activities using social networks as this is more effective, less costly and accessible to a large number of target audiences.
