Wildlife Mortality on the Road by Heavy Vehicular Movements Near Dumna Nature Reserve, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India

The incidence of wildlife mortalities on the road is widespread phenomenon reported numbers of countries in the world, despites this not much attention gain in our country. To address this issue, investigation on wildlife mortalities species, crushed due to heavy vehicle traffic movements were started to road passing through near Dumna Nature Reserve (DNR), Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Central India during 2011-2013. The 58 species of wild animals were recorded road kill mortality during the investigation. Among these 8 (13.79%) species of amphibians, 14 (24.13%) species of reptiles, 16 (27.58%) species of birds and 20 (34.48%) species of mammals were found dead on the road by speedy vehicle near (DNR). Several wild animals come under Wildlife Protection Act. (1972) with different scheduled and IUCN status also included. The 14 (24.13%) species LR-lc, 24 (41.37%) species LC and 18 (31.03%) species LR-nt, come under different IUCN status. It is needed to save our precious wildlife biodiversity from road kill mortality by taking all possible protection measures to heavy traffic movement.

Job satisfaction is an important factor for employees working in formal and informal sector. The job is small or big, permanent or temporary, risky or non-risky, job satisfaction is important. It is the mental feeling which drives the employees to excel. Job satisfaction is a combination of psychological, physiological and environmental circumstances. A satisfied employee is a contented and happy human being. The labour turnover depends upon job satisfaction. Even highly paid employees quit the job when they are not satisfied with the job. Road transportation in Tamilnadu is growing day by day. Job stress in the road transportation is very high due to increase in number of vehicle playing on the road and heavy traffic. The drivers and conductors working in public transport corporation are suffering from high job stress. If drivers and conductors are not satisfied with their job which leads to mental stresses and affects the productivity and also creates accidents. In this present study the researchers made an attempt to study the level of job satisfaction among the drivers and conductors who are working in the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC). The study reveals the expectations of drivers and conductors working in TNSTC with regards to the attributes like salary, promotion and fringe benefits etc., are satisfactory and not detrimental.

Traffic incidents (heavy traffic, adverse weather conditions, and traffic accidents) cause an increase in the frequency and intensity of the acceleration and deceleration. The result is a very significant increase in fuel consumption. In this paper, we propose a solution to reduce the impact of such events on energy consumption. The solution detects the traffic incidents based on measured telemetry data from vehicles and the different driver profiles. The proposal takes into account the rolling resistance coefficient, the road slope angle, and the vehicles speeds, from vehicles which are on the scene of the traffic incident, in order to estimate the optimal deceleration profile. Adapted advice and feedback are provided to the drivers in order to appropriately and timely release the accelerator pedal. The expert system is implemented on Android mobile devices and has been validated using a dataset of 150 tests using 15 different drivers. The main contribution of this paper is the proposal of a system to detect traffic incidents and provide an optimal deceleration pattern for the driver to follow without requiring sensors on the road. The results show an improvement on the fuel consumption of up to 13.47%.

South Gobi road of 240-km flexible pavement was constructed from UKHAA KHUDAG to GASHUUN SUKHAIT in South Gobi, Mongolia in 2011. However, due to the heavy traffic and severe weather condition, early distresses have occurred from a length of 100-km flexible pavements in South Gobi road after one year service life. In order to enhance crack and rutting resistances and to improve paving quality control in South Gobi road, polymer modifier is selected to reduce rutting at high temperature and cracking at low temperature and warm-mix asphalt (WMA) additive is selected to reduce the mixing and compacting temperatures and provide better compaction on the road and the ability to haul paving mix for longer distances. This paper adopted comprehensive asphalt tests to evaluate physical and rheological characteristics, and crack potential at low temperature for use in a South Gobi road. Laboratory tests were performed on asphalt binder with a polymer modifier and warm-mix asphalt additive by conducting the following tests: softening test, ductility test, SuperpaveTMtest and cold bending test. These test results of asphalt binder with SBS polymer modifier and warm-mix asphalt additive were significantly more positive than those of typical asphalt binder. On the basis of test results, it can be concluded that the asphalt binder with SBS polymer modifier and WMA additive is stronger and less susceptible to rutting and crack than typical asphalt binder used in South Gobi.

The road passing from Kalaburagi to Chincholi in Karnataka, India, is around 70km and is a state highway having different types of moderately thick vegetation on either side. The animals utilizing this vegetation face huge threats from vehicular traffic, as was observed in recent years. Although this road does not have heavy traffic, there are significant numbers of roadkills. This study was conducted from February 2015 to January 2016. During the one-year period of the study, the mean frequency of heavy vehicles was 154 per day. Among the 283 roadkills recorded, 52 individuals belonged to the class Amphibia, constituting 18.37% of the total roadkills; no amphibian was killed in the summer season whereas 35 and 17 individuals were killed in the rainy season and in the winter season, respectively. Fifty-two individuals belonged to the class Reptilia, constituting 18.37% of the total roadkills; on an average, 10±5.8 individuals were killed in the summer season, 2.5±0.71 in the rainy season, and 3.5±2.12 in the winter season. Sixty-one individuals belonged to the class Aves, constituting 21.55% of the total roadkills; on an average, 5.71±3.03 individuals were killed in the summer season, 2.66±2.08 in the rainy season, and 4.33±3.51 in the winter season. One-hundred-and-eighteen individuals belonged to the class Mammalia, which was the most affected among the roadkills, constituting 41.69% of the total roadkills; on an average, 5.33±5.08 individuals were killed in the summer season, 5±3.9 in the rainy season, and 4.6±2.7 in the winter season. Under the IUCN Red List category, the majority of the species in this study are considered Least Concern and some of them are not even mentioned. The present study helps to know the problems and threats faced by wild animals and is the first work carried out in the region.

In order to solve the problems relevant to asphalt concrete,such as cracking in low temperature, bleeding in high temperature and water damage,this paper put forward the ideal incorporation of steel fiber with asphalt concrete to reinforce the pavement performance and service life.By analyzing the test results such as rutting test, low temperature bending test,freeze-thaw splitting test and comparing with the stability in high temperature, anti-cracking performance in low temperature and the water stability between steel fiber asphalt concrete and the ordinary asphalt concrete,we can conclude that adding steel fiber with asphalt concrete can significantly improve the performance of road.This paper has reference value for choosing asphalt pavement in areas of low temperature and heavy traffic.
