Strategic Direction and Sustainable Development in Franchising Organizations: A Conceptual Study

Franchising is viewed as a significant industry in contributing to the global economic development by generating an average of $3.7 billion in annual franchise sales from 40 countries and provides over 18 million jobs opportunities. Due to the expansion of franchise business markets in Malaysia, the number of franchise outlets keeps increasing more than doubled within six years, with total 10720 outlets in 2010 to 23140 outlets in 2016. To intensify the continuance of this expanding process, franchise entrepreneurs need to conserve a sustainable creative value in undergoing the challenging of the business environment. The limitations of internal and external factors such as core capability, government support and other related dimensions affect the stability of franchise organization. This paper pursues to explore the related existing literature and underpinning theories that reinforce the sustainable development of franchise business. Most of the franchise models are captured in the different analysis of dimensions and strategies on sustainable development goals. The objective of this study is to conceptualize the strategic direction practices and propose a theoretical framework of sustainable franchising that can help the continuance of franchise business. Therefore, by supporting and participation of stakeholders, entrepreneurs, academicians, researchers, and governments, future analysis can develop and expose a sustainable model of franchising.

For a positive global future, it is fundamental to tackle the existing web of psychological, economic, sociological, and cultural processes reflected in current education systems. Confronted with complex issues that are essential to the stability of civilizations, we need more voices addressing a critical analysis of education in its key role. This can result in more people participating as happy, informed, and engaged citizens. This paper introduces the argument for education to promote public happiness (Felicitas Publica) and support global peace, addressing the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #3, #4, and #16. It begins by mapping the landscape of promising education-related practices supporting these SDGs and provides recommendations for research and actions. In addition, it presents the work of the UNESCO Chair on Education for Global Peace Sustainability, based at the Universidade de Lisboa, in Portugal, as an illustrative example. With this paper, we hope to convey the input of different branches of psychology that have the common good as their aim and address the positive transformation of our current educational processes.

The article shows that the epidemiological situation has significantly slowed down economic growth not only in Russia, but also in all countries of the world, which causes new challenges and threats in achieving the sustainable development Goals. This increases the importance of government support aimed at the recovery of employment and income, growth and long-term structural changes in the economy, with software-targeted and implemented under the state programs and projects at both the Federal and regional levels. In our country, unprecedented and decisive actions are being taken within the framework of state support to restore effective employment and effective demand, improve the business climate and economic growth in the context of the sustainable development goals. At the same time, in the context of global integration, when the economies of all countries of the world are becoming increasingly dependent on each other, strengthening international cooperation and developing multilateral partnerships between countries should be considered as one of the important factors for mitigating the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable development of the national economy in the long term.
