A series of architectural ceramics, including roof tiles and bricks from the excavation site at Khustyn Bulag, Mungunmorit soum, Tuv aimag (province) of Mongolia were subjected to detailed archaeometric analysis. We present here results of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDS) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and their potential to determine the composition of brick samples from one excavation site, and their firing temperatures. In addition, yellow ochre, which is a natural earth rock pigment that contains hydrated iron oxide and represents the most common pigment of antiquity, was revealed at this excavation site. The mineral composition of ochres will be determined and the possible use of it will be discussed.

Triethynylborazine-polyhydromethylsiloxane copolymers (TEB-PHMSs) were prepared through hydrosilylation reaction between -C≡CH attached to boron and ≡Si-H. The structures of TEB-PHMSs were characterized by Fourier transform Infrared (FT-IR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Their cure behavior were examined by Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and FT-IR, and then thermostability and ceramization of cured TEB-PHMS were investigated by Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), pyrolysis-GC-MS, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that TEB-PHMSs could be cured and converted into an outstanding thermostable SiBCN ceramics.

AbstractStarch is acryloylated and copolymerised without incorporating any vinyl monomer such as acrylic acid or acrylonitrile monomers to produce a superabsorbent copolymer. Fenton’s initiation system was used to produce polyacryloylated starch ester with varying degree of substitution. The copolymer from starch ester exhibited improved solubility, and an impressive water, saline, and solvents uptake. The superabsorbency of the samples is affected by the number of acryloyl groups on starch backbone. The starch ester with degree of substitution 0.8 had the highest water absorbency (102 g/g) in this experiment. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses were used to characterize the products.

 AbstrakAdsorpsi zat warna basic red 18 dan direct black 38 dengan adsorben dari serat pinang telah diteliti. Morfologi dan gugus fungsi permukaan serat pinang dianalisa dengan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) dan scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Penelitian ini fokus pada mekanisme adsorpsi dan pengaruh dosis adsorben. Koefisien korelasi (R2) dianalisis dengan menggunakan regresi linier. Mekanisme adsorpsi dilakukan dengan menggunakan dua model isoterm, yaitu isoterm Langmuir dan Freundlich. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa model Freundlich adalah yang paling sesuai diaplikasikan untuk adsorpsi zat warna basic red 18 dan direct black 38. Karena model Freundlich mampu menginterpretasikan proses adsorpsi zat warna basic red 18 dan direct black 38 dengan baik, maka sistem adsorpsi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah heterogen. Kapasitas adsorpsi untuk basic red 18 pada berbagai berat adsorben (seperti: 1, 2, dan 3 g) menggunakan model Freundlich adalah 0,234 L/g; 0,101 L/g dan 0,093 L/g.  Sementara kapasitas untuk direct black 38 adalah 0,360 L/g; 0,374 L/g dan 0,141 L/g.

PVDF membrane was modified by hydrophilization method, Pd/Fe nanoparticles were successful immobilized in hydrophilized PVDF membrane as catalytic reduant to dechlorinate monochloroacetic acid, the Pd/Fe nanoparticles characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The hydrophilized PVDF membrane was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The PVDF membrane immobilized Pd/Fe nanoparticles (NPs) as caralytic reducant was used to dechlorinate monochloroacetic acid (MCAA), the monochloracetic acid dechlorination efficiency was high.

. In this work PVA/Sm2O3 composite fibers and Sm2O3 fibers (PVA and Sm(NO3)3 were used as precursors) were prepared by using electrospinning technique. The fibers obtained were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Tributyl borate was first adopted for the introduction of boron in the preparation of bioactive borosilicate xerogel by sol-gel method. The xerogel reacted continuously in 0.25M K2HPO4 solution with a starting pH value of 7.0 at 37 °C for 1day. The structural, morphologies and compositional changes resulting from the conversion were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results indicated that speed of formation of HA was cut way back on the time with the addition of boron and the induction period for the HA nucleation on the surface of the borosilicate xerogel was short than 1 days. The conversion mechanism of the borosilicate xerogels to hydroxyapaptite was also discussed.
