Abstract An electronic commutator that can drive a PM BLDC motor either in the full bridge or half bridge configuration has been developed. This commutator allows increasing the motor speed over the nominal value, hence the motor is able to operate within a wide constant power speed range. An application of the commutator with a reconfigurable structure for the double drive of a small electric vehicle Elipsa has been presented. The driveline consists of two independent commutators feeding the motors coupled by gears with rear wheels of the vehicle. Both commutators are controlled by a common control system based on a signal microcontroller. The results of road tests indicate new areas of BLCD motor drives application. The fact that the BLCD motor work in the second speed range does not require any changes in the motor construction and at the same time does not significantly deteriorate the drive efficiency is an indisputable advantage of the presented solution

This paper presents a new hybrid cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter motor drive DTC scheme for electric vehicles where each phase of the inverter can be implemented using a single DC source. Traditionally, each phase of the inverter requires DC source for output voltage levels. In this paper, a scheme is proposed that allows the use of a single DC source as the first DC source which would be available from batteries or fuel cells, with the remaining () DC sources being capacitors. This scheme can simultaneously maintain the capacitors of DC voltage level and produce a nearly sinusoidal output voltage due to its high number of output levels. In this context, high performances and efficient torque and flux control are obtained, enabling a DTC solution for hybrid multilevel inverter powered induction motor drives intended for electric vehicle propulsion. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed multilevel inverter and control scheme are effective and very attractive for embedded systems such as automotive applications.

At present, the DC busbar design is one of the bottlenecks restricting the improvement of the power density of motor drives. Therefore, this paper proposes a three-dimensional line probe algorithm, which can realize the automatic routing of laminated busbar in motor drives. The specific rules and implementation of this method are introduced in detail in this paper. Finally, an example of busbar design of a vehicle motor drive is given to verify the routing rate and execution speed of the algorithm.
