The aim of this study is to find out the major challenges that hinder smooth operation of women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh. It also finds the reasons behind the success of the women entrepreneurship. Both primary and secondary data have been used to conduct the study. The questionnaire included questions about economic problems, family related issues, social constraints and other limitations faced by women entrepreneurs and the reasons behind their success. Women involved in various small and medium enterprises take on the challenge to work in a male-dominated society, competitive and complex economic and business environment. However, the identified challenges are inadequate capital, sales promotion, getting permission to start-up a business, gender discrimination, illiteracy and lack of knowledge among women, non-availability of training program and technical support, lack of managerial experience, in some cases young people make ill talk about the enterprise and so on. Personal qualities such as hard work and perseverance, management skills and marketing skills, support provided by their spouses or family are the main reasons behind the success of the women entrepreneurs. The level of participation of women in mainstream economic activities remains insufficient and the percentage of women in business is still much below than that of their male counterparts.Journal of Business and Technology (Dhaka) Vol.9(2) 2014; 27-41

The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are important for every nation’s economic development. They provide employment and spur the growth of multiple sectors in the economy.  The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected MSMEs' performance. The study seeks to demonstrate why COVID 19 may lead to the terminal quarantining of MSMEs. The study is anchored on decision usefulness and information asymmetry theories. The study adopted a descriptive research methodology and sampled MSMEs within Nairobi City County. The study used SPSS to analyze data in addition to Microsoft excel. The study found that over 70% of MSMEs had their sales decline by over 65% while 95% of them had their sales decline by over 30%. The study found that about 68% of MSMEs lacked financial management skills. The study recommends that with legal and institutional reforms, the government needs to develop a financing framework for MSMEs.

Numerous empirical studies have long been indicated the importance of business infrastructure for economic and regional development. Ensuring long-term economic growth, as well as the creation and development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as key drivers of the development of modern economies, requires a high level of efficiency and flexibility of business infrastructure. In the Western Balkans, the absence of a coherent business infrastructure network is the biggest obstacle to the rapid growth of their economies. For this reason, the activities of the Western Balkan governments in the future should be aimed at developing a network of business infrastructure in order to increase the share of the knowledge and services sector with high added value in the economic structure. This paper aims to point out the role of innovative clusters as a model of associating SMEs in the context of regional development.

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of entrepreneurial self efficacy on entrepreneurial success. 9,450 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who are registered members of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) and Association of Small Business Owners in Nigeria (ASBON) in Lagos State is the sample population. Probability sampling technique, specifically, proportionate stratified random sampling method was used to select samples from the sampling frame. The formula developed by the National Education Association (1960) was used to determine the sample size of 381 was used for this study. Primary data on the dependent variable (Entrepreneurial success) and independent variable (Entrepreneurial orientation) was collected using questionnaire as research instrument. Entrepreneurial self efficacy measures are optimism and overconfidence while measures for entrepreneurial success are profitability, market share, net asset growth, sales growth and government policies. The questionnaire was pretested by a pilot study of 50 selected SMEs. Data obtained from the pilot study was analyzed and based on the result, the questionnaire was slightly modified giving an overall Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.853. The statistics of the model summary of the correlation co-efficient reveal that: R = .232 showing that the combined influence of the two predictor variables had a moderate positive relationship with entrepreneurial success. The coefficient of determination R square is .054 or 5.4%. This suggests that the combined influence of the predictor variables (optimism and overconfidence) explains 5.4% of the variations in entrepreneurial success of SMEs. The value of F (2,207) = 5.866, p <.05, shows that the combined effect of optimism and overconfidence was statistically significant in explaining changes in entrepreneurial success of SMEs in Lagos State. This is established by a p value of 0.003 which is less than the acceptance critical value of 0.05. The findings of the study reveal that entrepreneurs’ optimism had the highest influence on entrepreneurial success because the p value was 0.040 and then entrepreneurs’ overconfidence with 0.201. These findings may be of help to the owner/managers of SMEs to be more entrepreneurial optimistic in order for them to survive the intensely competitive market environment.

Consumers loses have occurred in the practice of Fintech-based loans by non-bank financial institutions. The reports of losses arising from Fintech transactions has increased. This is because many Fintech organizers have not received permission from the OJK but are still able to conduct business activities in Indonesia. The problem in this study is: How is the supervision by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of non-bank financial institutions providing fintech-based venture capital lenders for MSMEs? And how is the legal consequences of fintech-based business capital loan services for MSME entrepreneurs. The study used normative legal approach and the data analyzed by descriptive qualitative.          The results of this study indicate that supervision by the OJK of non-bank financial institutions providing fintech-based venture capital lenders for SMEs as a form of legal protection to consumers. It is carried out in the form of preventive and repressive protection. Preventive protection is implemented by enacting OJK Regulation Number 77 / POJK.01 / 2016, OJK Circular Letter Number 18 / SEOJK.02 / 2017 and OJK Regulation Number 1 / POJK.07 / 2013 concerning Consumer Protection in the Financial Services Sector. Repressive protection is by applying sanctions against fintech organizers who commit violations in the form of written warnings and fines; restrictions on business activities; and revocation of permission. The legal consequences arising from fintech-based business capital loan services for SMEs to fintech providers are required to improve standards and meet consumer protection aspects. The legal consequence for MSMEs is the potential for fraud and misuse of consumer data by Fintech service providers.

This study sought to investigate the influence quality financial reporting systems have on the performance of small and medium enterprises. Descriptive survey design was employed. The sample size was 100 SMEs, selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and an observation list. Data collected using questionnaire were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Scientists (SPSS). The study found an absence of formal accounting systems in many firms due to lack of financial and accounting knowledge among the owner‐managers. It is recommended that financial institutions and policy makers need to focus on educating such owner‐managers with necessary accounting and financial management skills.

Entrepreneurship has become an important component for the development of productivity and economic growth. The contribution of the entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to the economy has attracted the attention of researchers and policy makers in both developed and transition economies. With this in consideration, based on the literature review, the authors have tried to explore and summarize criteria of entrepreneurship success measure. Understanding of these success measures will help organizations to adopt appropriate implementation strategies leading to success of entrepreneurship and SMEs. This article also presents a review of some popular models of entrepreneurship and SME success. An attempt is made here to highlight the factors consider in various models. Based on the factors identified authors have developed conceptual study model which will ultimately help to understand unique characteristics of the model.

The article analyzed the scientific output of the Internationalization of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) within four international journals between 2000-2008, through: exploratory research; qualitative methods; documentary analysis; and purposeful sampling. 26 articles were analyzed, considering their research objectives, theoretical frameworks, adopted methodologies and their principal contributions to the subject. It was acknowledged that these papers aspired to understand, analyze, interpret and identify the reasons and importance of the internationalization of SME. The Uppsala model was referenced in a number of polls, and principally presented the quantitative method. The main topics discussed were: the importance of social capital and networks in their internationalization and global alliances; management skills and personal skills of managers; distribution channels; the relationship between performance and size of the international organization; in addition to the role of experience abroad.
