Study objective: This study aims to identify the emergence of new studies in the field of strategy, considering 12 years of publications in the Strategic Management Journal.Methodology / approach: In the Web of Science database, we searched the journal “Strategic Management Journal”, in two periods, 2007 to 2012 and 2013 to 2018. We exclusively selected articles related to “Business” and “Management”. This search generated 1,100 articles for our database, with 376 articles from the first period and 724 articles from the second period. We use matching techniques in the analyses performed using Bibexcel and SPSS. At the same time, in Ucinet, we created the network diagram which supports the relationships between the identified factors and confirmatory analysis of the findings.Originality / Relevance: Bibliometric studies are constantly seeking to analyze how the theoretical structure of theories is progressing, and in strategy, it has not been different. To verify how studies in strategy have evolved in theoretical terms, given their multi-disciplinarity, a comparative study of two distinct but subsequent periods offers a global view of where the studies are heading. We discovered new theoretical fronts in essence to behavioral studies that emerged in previous studies and are strengthened in new research.Main results: The search identified 57 articles and six factors from 2007 to 2012 and 2013 to 2018 produced 22 articles and five factors. The results confirmed the evolution of studies in behavioral theories, especially regarding managers and their strategies as well as other findings, such as research related to environmental dynamics and competitive dynamics. We still have strong participation of studies with resource-based theory, transaction costs, and the emergence of new theories such as tournaments and behavioral strategy.Theoretical / methodological contributions: Bibliometric searches can be examples of how to analyze references. In this sense, this study helps researchers have a parameter in similar studies, with pairing analysis and the combination of analysis of two subsequent periods. On the theoretical side, the findings give strength to previous research, validating established theories and showing emerging theories.Social / management contributions: This research obtained results that confirm the multi-disciplinarity in strategy studies. Behavioral theories have emerged and strengthened in recent years. For management, we found that the surveys substantially analyze the strategic behavior of senior members in strategic decisions, such as in company acquisitions, in the formation of alliances, and how managers will perform when they are under contracts, differentiated remuneration, or in competition. For this reason, some theories emerged in the second period, such as tournament theory, not highlighted in previous bibliometric studies. Finally, a comparative summary of the factors found in the two periods helps managers in managerial perspectives on organizational strategies.

Objective: Propose an unprecedented initial categorization structure on the internationalization process of Brazilian HEIs, according to the Uppsala model Methodology: With the qualitative method, semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives of the HEIs, reviewing and articulating the literature with content analysis on all data obtained.Originality: The study links a classic approach to internationalization with the current reality of higher education institutions. Thus, it is expected that there will be a new conception on how HEIs can optimize their strategies for international insertion.Main results: The internationalization of HEI can be analyzed by three main categorized elements, they are: i) the drivers; ii) enablers and, iii) obstacles to the internationalization of HEIs, each with their own specific characteristics. Theoretical Contributions: The research presents a conceptual categorization for the essential factors of the internationalization of HEI's, this articulation allows advancing in the literature on internationalization and also on the management models of higher education institutions.

Objective: The Public Administration faces the influence of internal and external factors that bring uncertainty regarding the achievement of its objectives. These uncertainties can be called organizational risks, which can be analyzed by the Implementation and its processes. However, these phases have been approached as synonymous, making it difficult to measure the results desired by Risk Management. Thus, this article aims to highlight the difference in implementation and implementation in risk management, as well as to elucidate the challenges faced by the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina in the Risk Management process.Methodology/Approach: This research is classified as a qualitative case study, with information analysis through interviews with the organization's employees and participant observation over three years.Originality/Relevance: The study provides empirical evidence on the distinction between the implementation and implementation stages, as well as their challenges, to improve the studies and execution of Risk Management. Main results: The implementation and its phases were identified, with challenges occurring in both, especially regarding the difficulty of public servants in understanding risk management and its context, the preparation of risk maps, the assignment of roles outside the committee, and the creation of indicators concise.Theoretical-methodological contributions: Institutions need to go beyond standardization and regulation, completing all the steps established in the implementation of Risk Management, subsequently introducing implementation, and institutionalizing their practices in the management processes.

Objective: To analyze the innovation process in the light of the RBV and The Theory of the Growth of the Firm, by Edith Penrose.Methodology: A Systematic Literature Review was carried out using the Methodi Ordinatio. The Social Network Analysis technique was performed to determine which theoretical contexts the studies were based on.  Similarity Analysis was also carried out to identify the relationship between the elements of the focal approaches and the innovation process.Originality/relevance: The Penrose study is considered by many researchers to be the antecedent of what was later called Resource-Based View, however, most of these studies did not fully explain the contribution of Penrose´s theory in the specifics of the theoretical view. Although research on innovation has been based on theoretical approaches in the field of strategy, there have been no analyses that systematized the innovation process by integrating the Penrose theory and RBV.Main results: The studies that analyzed innovation from the RBV and the Theory of the Growth of the Firm emphasized the maintenance of competitive advantage as a result of its dynamic capabilities, as well as access to and use of organizational knowledge. The authors identified heterogeneous innovation resources and imperfectly mobile, such as user-technology interactions, trajectory-dependent capabilities, specialized assets, RD capabilities, and network ties.Theoretical contributions: The study revealed that through the continuous execution of the innovation process, unique core competencies (e.g., RD experience) are developed to improve heterogeneous and imperfectly mobile innovation resources.

Objective: The research aims to identify which critical factors influence the strategic planning process, implementation and control in junior firms’ strategic planning.Methodology/approach: The study has a qualitative, descriptive approach, using multiple cases studies method, which examined seven junior firms. As a selection criterion, the accessibility and the snowball sampling technique were used. As data collection, it was applied semi-structured interviews. As a plan of analysis, it was considered Bardin’s assumptions (2016). Lastly, to a greater reliability of the study it was performed the researchers triangulation in both process of data collecting and analysis.Main results: The results point out 28 categories subdivided in difficulty and advantage of the planning process, implementation and control of strategic planning. However, only 11 were considered critical.Originality/Relevance: as originality, the result discusses the strategic process performed by junior firms, that is considered here as organizational entities, which, according to Bervager and Visentini (2016) it has not yet been researched.Theoretical contribution: As a theoretical contribution to junior firms, this study progresses in understanding these institutions as organizational entities, especially if the business theory presented in different courses is put into practice.Social and management contributions: The research has potential contributions to beginning junior firms that want to develop its practices in strategic planning, as well as connected institutions such as junior’s movement and national association.

Objective of the study: This study aims to analyze scientific production about absorptive capacity and innovation in such a way as to make it possible to identify study trends and the theoretical bases on which they are based.Methodology / Approach: We performed bibliographic coupling, co-citation, and social network analysis on a sample of 3,698 articles, considering 2,778 articles from Web of Science and 920 articles from Scopus.Originality / Relevance: In a preliminary search, only two bibliometric works were identified that focused on absorptive capacity and innovation. However, since 2015, more than 1,500 articles have been published, with new perspectives, advancing studies on this topic.Main results: The coupling analysis resulted in six factors showing the trends of future studies. The co-citation analysis presented three factors, representing the intellectual structure arising from the coupling analysis. The network analysis provided insight into how these studies connect. The results point to trends in future studies that can fill the research gaps on absorptive capacity and innovation. In addition, we also indicate the theoretical fronts that can be used to explore these trends. Finally, we present a model that summarizes our findings and shows how they can contribute to the advancement of research based on the seminal model of Zahra and George (2002).Theoretical / Methodological contributions: We present a mapping of the theme that provides a clearer view of which seminal works are used to approach each theme to be explored in future studies, associating the results of the bibliometric techniques used.

Objective of the study: Evaluate, according to the Resource-based View (RBV) perspective, the impact IT governance and management have on the finalistic performance of Brazilian public-sector organizations in terms of the provision of high-quality processes and products.Methodology: Application of multivariate analysis techniques and a two-step cluster analysis (hierarchical method and K-means) in the iGov2017 Survey database which includes 482 organizations and is made available by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU).Relevance: The research contributes to reducing the lack of academic publications that analyze the integration of the concepts of strategy, value creation, and governance and IT management within the scope of the Brazilian public sector.Main results: The data showed that 47.7% of the organizations presented incipient levels of IT governance and management. In contrast, 19% of the organizations analyzed presented satisfactory results in terms of performance and IT governance maturity. Evidence indicates that there is a positive correlation between governance quality, IT governance and management, and the finalistic performance of organizations.Theoretical contributions: Results suggest, in accordance with the RBV perspective, that a multifaceted, harmonic, and complex orchestration that ensures consistent alignment of strategic decision making, IT strategies, risk management, and IT governance and management has a direct effect on the performance of Brazilian organizations.Management contributions: Learning more about the profile of the organizations in every cluster selected for analysis could be useful for public managers in adopting measures that enhance the quality of public service provision for the benefit of all Brazilian citizens with reasonable risks and costs.

Objective: Build a matrix of indicators, according to the conceptual perspective of the BSC, adapting to the dimensions of sustainability related to family ranchingMethodology: A qualitative approach was used, carrying out a bibliographic and documentary study, in addition to interviews with rural producers and specialists on the subject.Originality: Historically, there is a lack of tools and management methodologies for the work context, especially in view of the new environmental and sustainability requirements. Thus, the work contributes to mitigate this gap in the context.Main results: The work generated a proposal / matrix with sustainability indicators for family livestock. Matrix composed of 28 indicators distributed in the four dimensions (environmental, economic, productive and social) of sustainability.Theoretical/methodological contributions: The main methodological contribution was to describe the process of how to propose a matrix of indicators, using planning tools such as the SWOT matrix and the BSC. Producers and specialists contributed to the construction of the SWOT matrix, later also contributed to the construction of the indicator matrix, in order to tend to the SWOT matrix.Social contributions/to management: As a social contribution we can mention the issue of the matrix of indicators being supported by the four dimensions of sustainability. For management, the matrix itself, in addition to the specifications of each indicator, which can enable better management of family ranching properties.
