Abstract: Confirmatory factor analysis and psychometric properties of the Beck Hopelessness Scale in students in contexts of poverty in Mexico. Hopelessness predicts depression and suicide. In the world, suicide is the second cause of death in people between 15 and 29 years, and depression is the main cause of disability. The internal factorial structure, reliability and construct validity of the Hopelessness Scale were analyzed in upper secondary and higher education students in contexts of poverty in Mexico. 771 participants were evaluated. Reliability was examined with the coefficient omega, and validity with confirmatory factor analysis with the weighted least square mean and variance adjusted method. The value of omega was .89. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed an SRMR = .07, CFI = .95, TLI = .94, RMSEA = .05. The scale is valid and reliable for students in contexts of poverty in Mexico. Keywords: Reliability; validity; students; Beck Hopelessness Scale.Resumen: La desesperanza predice la depresión y el suicidio. AbstractAdolescents are challenged to take decisions about issues associated to the vital circle and the comprehension of the world. Meaning in life (MiL) takes a leading role in adolescence. Reker and Peacock developed the Life Attitude Profile (LAP) for assessing MiL, and Erci developed a revised version (LAP-R). The main objective of this study was to analyze the factorial structure, reliability, invariance across gender, and absence/presence of assessment bias of a Spanish adaptation of the Turkish LAP-R among 2138 Chilean adolescents (1205 boys, 912 girls, and 8 others), who were studying in 3rd and 4th year. The LAP-R showed an acceptable structural validity, acceptable internal consistency, and invariance across gender. MiL as a significant domain of human experience in adolescents.

Introduction: Work environment can affect the employees, fostering well-being versus emotional burden. The aim of this study was to develop the Institutional Culture Assessment Scale (ICAS), and evaluate its Factor Structure, Reliability and Validity in a Brazilian sample of medical students and physicians in different settings and phases of the medical career. Method: 2537 individuals were evaluated by an online questionnaire. The sample was split in half for independent testing of Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. We then used Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to test the best solutions in the second half of the sample. Then, considering a unidimensional model solution, an item response theory (IRT) analysis was conducted. Simple linear regression analysis was performed to investigate associations between ICAS factor scores and internal validators (burnout scores), using again the second half of the sample. Result: Parallel analysis revealed two factors. The first factor encompassed items involving the institution and supervisors. The second factor encompassed items involving peers. We decided to performed the next analysis with a unidimensional construct based solely on institution/supervisor items. A unidimensional model including the remaining seven items from the ICAS instrument revealed an excellent fit with the data. All items loaded significantly on the unidimensional latent trait with factor loadings ranging from 0.583 to 0.869. McDonalds Omega was 0.89, showing a high internal consistency. Conclusion: This study presents a valid and reliable scale to assess aspects of institutional culture connected to the relationships with superiors/supervisors and to the relation to the institutions themselves.

The hierarchical construction model (HCM) may be used to minimize colinear formative indicators while increasing the statistical power of content-specific constructs. However, the present research discovered a strong correlation between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and job satisfaction, indicating a lack of discriminating validity that limits the use of HCM. Thus, this research condensed data on job satisfaction for university staff by comparing a consistent partial least square (PLSc) model to a composite model without utilizing higher-order constructs. The sample consisted of 392 individuals working in a Thai university with a total of 1,042 staff. The results show that the composite model performs better than a consistent partial least square, generating bias. Intrinsic motivation is both a direct and indirect effect on job satisfaction. Extrinsic motivation is a complementary model mediator effect. The limitation of the study is an inherent relation between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and indicators of job satisfaction, which can cause a common factor model bias. Further studies where the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) is compared early with the covariance-based structural equation model (CB-SEM) are needed, particularly studies using composite indicators. PLS-SEM can now be used to measure both confirmatory composite analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, while CB-SEM can only estimate confirmatory factor analysis. The method of condensing data may help eliminate discriminant validity issues.

So-called natural food is one of the most significant current trends in the food business. Despite this trend, previous research on the measurement of naturalness has made no distinction between different groups of consumers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore the attributes important to millennial university students when evaluating food naturalness. The study is based on a questionnaire administered to a sample of 372 respondents. Using a partial least square (PLS) methodology, it performs a standard confirmatory factor analysis for measurement and validations. As a result, it identifies one attribute linked to how the food is grown and eight attributes associated to how it is produced and processed. These findings have several implications. Apart from testing previous scales in a millennial context, they confirm that market strategies must take different understandings of naturalness into account contingent upon the consumer group.

Abstract Employees’ perceived opportunities to craft (POCs) influence actual job crafting behavior, which may have consequences for their well-being and work performance. This study aimed to validate the perceived opportunities to craft scale (POCS) in the Brazilian context. We collected data from Brazilian employees (N = 1451) in two separate samples. The factor structure, reliability, and convergent validity of the POCS were tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA), and external variables. The results indicated that the POCS-Brazilian version (with seven-point and five-point Likert scale) replicated the unidimensional structure of the original instrument. POCs showed significant positive and moderate correlations with occupational self-efficacy, work engagement and job crafting, and negative associations with workaholism. Both POCS-Brazilian versions were reliable according to three types of reliability indexes and also showed discriminant and convergent validity evidence.

Abstract Objectives: This paper describes the development and translation of a questionnaire purported to measure (1) the perception of the placement strategy of automated external defibrillator, (2) the perception on the importance of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (3) the perception on the confidence and willingness to apply these two lifesaving interventions as well as (4) the fears and concerns in applying these two interventions. For construct validation, exploratory factor analysis was performed using principal axis factoring and promax oblique rotation and confirmatory factor analysis performed using partial least square. Results Five factors with eigenvalue >1 were identified. Pattern matrix analysis showed that all items were loaded into the factors with factor loading >0.4. One item was subsequently removed as Cronbach’s alpha >0.9 which indicates redundancy. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated acceptable factor loadings except for one item which was subsequently removed. Internal consistency and discriminant validity was deemed acceptable with no significant cross-loading.
