Jessie believed that Lawrence did not rewrite the novel after the version she saw, but he extensively rewrote it, responding to all her objections that have survived and incorporating her new scenarios with little change. Lawrence submitted the novel to Heinemann in June 1912, but it was rejected. With Edward Garnett’s encouragement he completely rewrote it between July and December. Frieda claimed that she wrote 'little female bits' those these have not survived. Her influence is unlikely to have been favourable to Jessie, but here is strong evidence that it strengthened the awareness of the destructive effect of a mother-son love substituting for a failed marriage. It was only in October 1912, during the final rewriting, that Lawrence gave the novel the thematically significant title 'Sons and Lovers'.

A comparative transcriptomic study of mosquito olfactory tissues recently published in BMC Genomics (Hodges et al., 2014) reported several novel findings that have broad implications for the field of insect olfaction. In this brief commentary, we outline why the conclusions of Hodges et al. are problematic under the current models of insect olfaction and then contrast their findings with those of other RNAseq based studies of mosquito olfactory tissues. We also generated a new RNAseq data set from the maxillary palp of Anopheles gambiae in an effort to replicate the novel results of Hodges et al. but were unable to reproduce their results. Instead, our new RNAseq data support the more straightforward explanation that the novel findings of Hodges et al. were a consequence of contamination by antennal RNA. In summary, we find strong evidence to suggest that the conclusions of Hodges et al were spurious, and that at least some of their RNAseq data sets were irrevocably compromised by cross-contamination between samples.

The novel coronavirus disease- 2019 (COVID-19) is first reported from China, and unfortunately, no longer restricted, and spreads in all geographies.(1) The main symptoms of COVID-19 infection are respiratory tract related. Infected patients usually have symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and fatigue, and they may have atypical symptoms like headache, seizure, anosmia, stroke, and even impaired consciousness. Strong evidence of an association between COVID-19 infection and neurological manifestations has been reported. Besides, the neurologic manifestations may be the initial presentation of COVID-19 infection.

AbstractThe novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that emerged at the end of 2019 has been controlled in mainland China so far, while it is still spreading globally. When the pandemic will end is a question of great concern. A logistic model depicting the growth rules of infected and recovered cases in mainland China may shed some light on this question. We extended this model to 31 countries outside China experiencing serious COVID-2019 outbreaks. The model well explained the data in our study (R2 ≥ 0.95). For infected cases, the semi-saturation period (SSP) ranges from 63 to 170 days (March 3 to June 18). The logistic growth rate of infected cases is positively correlated with that of recovered cases, and the same holds for the SSP. According to the linear connection between the growth rules for infected and recovered cases identified from the Chinese data, we predicted that the SSP of the recovered cases outside China ranges from 82 to 196 days (March 22 to July 8). More importantly, we found a strong positive correlation between the SSP of infected cases and the timing of government’s response, providing strong evidence for the effectiveness of rapid epidemic control measures in various countries.

Woolf’s sense that the novel must respond to poetry is manifest in her first three novels—The Voyage Out (1915), Night and Day (1919), and Jacob’s Room (1922). In the first, she shows a keen ear for the sound of language, but poetry figures as patriarchal and arguably deadly. In the second, she explores conflicting attitudes toward the English poetic tradition, and poetry occupies a dual role, at once burden and aphrodisiac. And in the third, poetry serves as a tool Woolf adapts for her own use in prose. For four reasons, by 1922 Woolf was able to appreciate poetry of the past: a familiarity with contemporary poetry gained by printing at The Hogarth Press, the deaths of family members who had nurtured poetry’s discouraging associations, an interest in elegy after the personal loss of her brother and the collective loss during World War I, and a comfort with poetry’s techniques in the wake of the form’s diminished power. Strong evidence of Woolf’s turn toward poetry lies in the poetry books in her extant library.

This article examines the herding behaviour at the industry level from national stock exchange (NSE). The novel contribution of this article is to examine the herding behaviour during the whole, pre- and post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak period. We deployed the popular model proposed by Chang et al. (2000) to examine herd formation. Using daily stock closing prices of 191 firms, which constitute the 12 industry indices for the period from 1 January 2015 to 1 June 2020, the results for the full sample period (1 January 2015 to 1 June 2020) and before COVID-19 outbreak period (1 January 2015 to 29 January 2020) indicate the non-existence of herding formation at the industry level, but they do suggest a strong evidence of anti-herding behaviour. In addition, during the bull and bear market conditions, we found evidence of herding behaviour during the post-COVID-19 outbreak period (1 January 2020 to 1 June 2020). Further, the findings suggest that COVID-19 pandemic caused the formation of herding behaviour at the industry level. The study facilitates investors to devise their trading strategies in the regime of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract The two-character level-1 WZW models corresponding to Lie algebras in the Cvitanović-Deligne series A1, A2, G2, D4, F4, E6, E7 have been argued to form coset pairs with respect to the meromorphic E8,1 CFT. Evidence for this has taken the form of holomorphic bilinear relations between the characters. We propose that suitable 4-point functions of primaries in these models also obey bilinear relations that combine them into current correlators for E8,1, and provide strong evidence that these relations hold in each case. Different cases work out due to special identities involving tensor invariants of the algebra or hypergeometric functions. In particular these results verify previous calculations of correlators for exceptional WZW models, which have rather subtle features. We also find evidence that the intermediate vertex operator algebras A0.5 and E7.5, as well as the three-character A4,1 theory, also appear to satisfy the novel coset relation.
