The current study aimed to examine the associations between the Big Five personality dimensions, aesthetic judgment styles, and art interest. Participants (N = 253) were university students in Tehran, Iran. All participants completed measures of personality, aesthetic Judgment styles, and general interest in art. Results suggested that Openness to Experience was related to advanced styles of art judgment and interest in art-related activities. Regression analyses showed that sex (β = .18, t = 3.18, p = .002), Emotional Stability (β = .14, t = 2.47, p = .01), Openness to Experience (β = .18, t = 3.14, p = .002), symbolic aesthetic judgment style (β = .31, t = 4.63, p < .001), and concrete aesthetic judgment style (β = -.19, t = -3.25, p = .001) significantly predicted art interest. The role of personality and individual difference constructs in aesthetic judgment and art interest is discussed and future directions are outlined.

PurposeThis study examines the role of Big Five personality traits namely openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism in regulatory-focused job crafting, i.e. promotion- and prevention-focused job crafting and their inter-relationships.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data collected from 444 executives of Indian public sector energy companies were analysed using structural equation modelling.FindingsBig Five personality traits differentially influence individuals' ways of managing job demands through promotion- and prevention-focused job crafting. These influences are easily identifiable in case of openness to experience, conscientiousness and neuroticism.Practical implicationsFindings of the study may help organizations in developing an effective recruitment, job designing and job allocation process, devise a framework for uncertainty management, encourage their employees to undertake personality-aligned job crafting to manage their ever-emerging jobs and enhance person–job fit.Originality/valueThis study, for the first time, provided a comparative influence of Big Five personality traits on both forms of regulatory-focused job crafting. These findings may be relevant for job demand management in a dynamic business environment.

The current study tries to understand the diverse nature of relationship between personality Big Five Model (PBFM) and student's perception of abusive supervision in higher education institutions of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Pakistan. Data was collected in dyads i.e. (supervisors were asked to rate their personality attributes while student were asked to rate the supervisor behavior) through adopted construct. For this purpose, data was collected from three government state universities and one Private Sector University. The focus was on MS/M.Phill and PhD student and their supervisors of the mentioned universities. After measuring normality and validity regression analysis was conducted to assess the impact of supervisor personality characteristics that leads to abusive supervision. Findings indicate interestingly that except agreeableness other four attributes of (PBFM) are play their role for abusive supervision. The results are novel in the nature as for the first time Neuroticism, openness to experience, extraversion and conscientiousness are held responsible for the abusive supervision. The study did not explore the demographic characteristics, and moderating role of organizational culture, justice and interpersonal deviances to understand the strength of relationship in more detail way. Stimulated by the uses-and-gratification approach, this study examined the joint relation of several consumer characteristics to news interest. In total, 1,546 German-speaking participants rated their interest in 15 major news categories and several personal characteristics, including gender, age, the Big Five personality traits, self-esteem, as well as general positive and negative affect. Regression analyses examined the amount of interindividual variance in news interest that can be explained by this set of consumer characteristics. Overall, the amount of explained variance differed remarkably across news categories, ranging from 4% for entertainment-related news to 25% for news about technology. The most powerful explaining variables were participants’ gender, age, openness to experiences, and their amount of general positive affect. The results suggest that news interest should be defined and operationalized as a concept with multiple facets covering a huge range of content. Also, the results are important for media producers and journalists with respect to the conflict between increased need gratification of consumers and information filtering via personalized news content.

Research since the 1990s reveals that openness to experience—a personality trait that captures interest in novelty, creativity, unconventionalism, and open-mindedness—correlates negatively with political conservatism. This chapter summarizes this vast literature by meta-analyzing 232 unique samples (N = 575,691) that examine the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and conservatism. The results reveal that the negative relationship between openness to experience and conservatism (r = −.145) is nearly twice as big as the next strongest correlation between personality and ideology (namely, conscientiousness and conservatism; r = .076). The associations between personality traits and conservatism were, however, substantively larger in Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic (WEIRD) countries than in non-WEIRD countries. The chapter concludes by reviewing recent longitudinal work demonstrating that openness to experience and conservatism are non-causally related. Collectively, the chapter shows that openness to experience is by far the strongest (negative) correlate of conservatism but that there is little evidence that this association is causal.

Kepribadian memberikan pengaruh yang unik terhadap pencapaian prestasi belajar siswa. Penelitian  ini  bertujuan  untuk  mengetahui  pengaruh  big  five  personality  terhadap prestasi belajar siswa SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan.  Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif, dengan pendekatan survey. Populasi penelitian sebanyak 246 siswa dan sampel 25 siswa kelas VIII dan 25 siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 10  Tarakan. Analisis data menggunakan statistik  deskriptif  inferensial  dengan  bantuan  SPSS  24  for  windows.  Berdasarkan  hasil analisis regresi uji t, dimana nilai thitung keseluruhan variabel independen lebih kecil dari nilai ttabel (2,015) dan nilai signifikansi seluruh variabel independen lebih besar dari (0,05). Maka tidak ada pengaruh openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness dan neuroticism yang signifikan pada prestasi belajar siswa SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan. Penelitian   ini   dapat   dijadikan   sebagai   rujukan penelitian yang lebih komprehensif khususnya yang berhubungan dengan faktor   big  five personality   dengan  prestasi belajar sehingga memberikan kontribusi yang lebih luas pada kemajuan dunia pendidikan.
