In this paper, the flue gas desulfurization gypsum (FGD) generated from thermal power plant is used to produce high strength gypsum. The basic properties of super high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum are investigated based on the test results of strength, thermal expansion rate, crystal appearance and size. The results indicate that the properties of high strength gypsum prepared by FGD gypsum above α50 standard. This can be a reference for gypsum-based α super high-strength gypsum related product development.

The plate heat exchanger in oil cooler of unit 2 in a thermal power plant became corrosion perforation after 2-year running, and severe pits were found on its surface. The material and scale composition of the lubricating oil cooler was analyzed, and it was found that the oil cooler was made of 304 stainless steel, instead of the 316 stainless steel provided by factory. The corrosion products on the corroded surface were composed of some characteristic elements in cooling water. The analysis suggested that the reason for corrosion perforation of the heat exchanger could be associated with its material composition, and the under scale corrosion formed under the action of scale deposition could also cause corrosion perforation and large-scale pits.

Thermal power plant (TPP) - Bitola is the largest electricity producer in the Republic of Macedonia with installed capacity of 691 MW. It is a lignite fired power plant, in operation since 1982. Most of the installed equipment is of Russian origin. Power plant's cold end comprised of a condenser, pump station and cooling tower is depicted in the article. Possible way to raise the efficiency of the cold end by changing the operating characteristics of the pumps is presented in the article. Diagramic and tabular presentation of the working characteristics of the pumps (two pumps working in paralel for one block) with the pipeline, as well as engaged power for their operation are also presented in this article.
