This study aims to describe the discourse analysis contained in the second round of the Surakarta pilwakot debate in 2020. In a critical discourse analysis study, the debate can be analyzed using William L. Benoit's functional theory which includes acclaims or claims, attacks or attacks, and defends or defends. This research uses descriptive qualitative research by describing the functional theory contained in the second round of the Surakarta Pilwakot debate. The documentation technique was used to collect data by watching, viewing, and writing the most important points in the second round of the Solo Pilwakot debate live video broadcast. Content analysis techniques were used in this study to obtain the forms of acclaim, attacks, and defends used by candidate pairs in arguing. Based on the results of the analysis, the two pairs of candidates equally made acclaims or claims, recognition as one way to convince their supporters. As for attacks or attacks, candidate pair number 1 is superior in attacking candidate pair number 2. On defends, candidate pair number 1 (Gibran-Teguh) defends based on empirical data or facts as an aspect of knowledge which supports his argument. Another case with candidate pair number 2 (Bagyo-Supardjo) who is not strong enough in doing a defense or defends through answers or responses that are out of the context in question

This research aims to explore the thematic meanings of graffiti written on the walls and desks at secondary public schools in the Directorate of Education for the Qasabat Irbid District during the second semester of the academic year 2020/2021. The data comprise 207 written graffiti taken from different locations. Braun and Clarke's (2006) Thematic Analysis and Fairclough's (1995) Critical Discourse Analysis are adopted to account for the data thematically and linguistically. The findings of the study show that the qualitative and quantitative data fall into three main discourse themes: Religious, Political, and Emotional. Each one has been classified into subcategories accordingly. The results also show that the highest percentage of the discourse theme domains is related to the emotional one which constitutes the half of data. The lexical features indicate that the language of the graffiti is simple. Yet, it presents a complete thought. Languages and language variations are also identified.

AbstractCritical Discourse Analysis on Political Speech by The Former Head of Golkar,Abu Rizal Bakrie. Discourse is a unit of language based on words used tocommunicate in social contexts. Therefore, it cannot be denied that language isan effective tool in all aspects of life, including on the political stage. This studyaims to analyze the structure of the political speech of the former chairman of theGolkar Party, Aburizal Bakrie, entitled "Flowing But Not Drifting". The type ofthis research is descriptive qualitative with the Van Dijk's model of criticaldiscourse analysis. The results of this study indicate that the macro structure ofthe ARB speech text is "Flowing But Not Drifting". In the study of the textsuperstructure, ARB's speech was arranged in a simple way which then becamea strategy in delivering a discourse in front of the cadres. The final element ofvan Dijk's critical discourse analysis study is the micro or semantic structure. The ARB speech consists of background elements, details, presuppositions andnominalization in the semantic section. The use of pronouns, and the tenses usedare active and passive sentences, and tend to use aspects of conditionalcoherence. ARB also tends to use diction in a style that leads to the use oflanguage that is simple and easy to understand because it starts the speech bygiving greetings, thanks and also insertion of a pantun, which is understood as away to give a more positive nuance to the Golkar Party.Key words: CDA, speech, politics, Golkar, ARB AbstrakAnalisis Wacana Kritis Pada Pidato Politik Mantan Ketua Umum PartaiGolkar Aburizal Bakrie.
This paper reports on a Critical Discourse Analysis study situated within a postcolonial theoretical framework and informed by Foucauldian analysis and the lens of governmentality. The study examined official Canadian immigration documents and guidelines. Findings suggest that discourses of risk and protection are used to mask dominant health discourses that construct immigration applicants with disabilities as the "inadmissible Other". Implications for social work and other helping professions involved in facilitating immigration and settlement for newcomers with disabilities are discussed, and suggestions for future directions in research are offered.
