Is China likely to intervene if war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, and if so, does Beijing have the willingness and capabilities to deal safely with North Korea's nuclear program? Securing and destroying Pyongyang's nuclear weapons would be the United States’ top priority in a Korean contingency, but scholars and policymakers have not adequately accounted for the Chinese military's role in this mission. China's concerns about nuclear security and refugee flows, its expanding military capabilities to intervene, and its geopolitical competition with the United States all suggest that China is likely to intervene militarily and extensively on the Korean Peninsula if conflict erupted. In this scenario, Chinese forces would seek to gain control of North Korea's nuclear facilities and matériel. For the most part, China has the capabilities to secure, identify, and characterize North Korean nuclear facilities, though it exhibits weaknesses in weapons dismantlement and nonproliferation practices. On aggregate, however, Chinese troops on the peninsula would be beneficial for U.S. interests and regional security. Nevertheless, to mitigate the risks, the United States should work with China to coordinate their movements in potential areas of operation, share intelligence, and conduct combined nuclear security training.

Indonesia has planned to erect Nuclear Power Plant for along time, but the government always postponed the plan due to the presence of anti-nuclear group that decreases the public acceptance. In addition, the public knowledge on nuclear technology is still low, since they only get in the last month before finish their study in high school. The socialization of nuclear technology done by government body could not significantly increase the public acceptance, since the knowledge and confidence on nuclear technology among the government employee is also low. The recent issue regarding to nuclear security give a new opportunity in socializing strategy. Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) as the only one university in Indonesia offering nuclear engineering education had conducted several nuclear security training for specific people who had been not targeted in previous socialization programs. The training done in collaboration with National Nuclear Energy Regulatory Body (BAPETEN) of Indonesia was conducted in Batam, Surabaya and Jakarta. Almost 20 people coming from police department, national coast guard, custom agency, etc attended in the training. Training materials consist of introduction on nuclear technology, introduction on nuclear security, physical protection system, radiation detection, transport security, etc. Pre-test and post-test were done to know their improvement. This was first time for most of participants to get nuclear technology knowledge. Based on the survey their knowledge was significantly improved. They felt that the training was valuable for them to know the benefit and risk of nuclear technology. We believe that it could increase the public participant and acceptance on utilizing nuclear technology in Indonesia.

Purdue Polytechnic Columbus is one of ten statewide extensions of Purdue University and is located about an hour south of Indianapolis in an economic region dominated by manufacturing. Just less than 40% of the workforce in this 10 county region is directly employed by the manufacturing industry. The primary employer in the region is diesel-engine manufacturer Cummins, Inc. but there are many others including Toyota, Honda, Faurecia, NTN Driveshaft, Valeo, and Aisin. Most of the manufacturing industry is related to automobile production. Purdue Polytechnic Columbus is unique among higher education institutions due to a partnership with diesel-engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. that has led to an environmentally-controlled metrology lab located within the university facility. This puts Purdue Polytechnic Columbus in a unique position to develop and offer training and education programs targeted to local industry and local education institutions. There have been many recent reports of shortages of trained metrology personnel. As a university, Purdue Polytechnic Columbus has developed many programs to engage young people in the STEM disciplines to foster interest in manufacturing and engineering careers. This work attempts to develop a hands-on activity that emphasizes the importance of measurement within the broader context of assembly-line manufacturing. Participants create multiple assembly lines to produce a simple fixture, utilizing various measurement tools to increase quality and improve efficiency. The last effort employs go/no-go gauges to illustrate the value of those tools in manufacturing to improve quality and efficiency.
