The use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology for the assessment of mining and energy complex impact on water quality involves the ranking of key environmental aspects and the prioritization of environmental protection measures. This paper reduces the choice of indicators to four dominant effects of operational activities, which to the largest extent disturb the quality of basic environmental elements. The criteria were developed with the aim to facilitate the comparison of results from multiple mining and energy complexes, improve safety system modelling, and facilitate the assessment of the effects of critical operational activities on water quality. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that discouraged Taiwan hoteliers from applying for green hotel certification. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to perform a weighted analysis that comprehensively identified important hindering factors based on information from hotel industry, government, academic, and consumer representatives. Overall, in order of importance, the five dimensions of hindering factors identified by these experts and scholars were hotel internal environment, consumers’ environmental protection awareness, environmental protection incentive policy, hotel laws and regulations policy, and hotel external environment. Among the 26 examined hindering factor indices, the three highest-weighted indices overall for hoteliers applying for green hotel certification were as follows: environmental protection is not the main consideration of consumers seeking accommodations, lack of support by investment owners (shareholders), and lack of relevant subsidy incentives. The major contribution of this study is that hoteliers can understand important hindering factors associated with applying for green hotel certification; therefore, strategies that can encourage or enhance the green certification of hotels can be proposed to improve corporate image in the hotel industry, implement social responsibility in this industry, and obtain consumers’ approval of and accommodation-willingness for green hotels.

Abstract Ecosystem services provided by river ecosystems rely on healthy ecosystem structure and ecological processes. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban is a typical water-deficient area. As an important part of the urban-rural integration construction, evaluating the health status of the Beiyun River Basin and discovering the weak links in the water environment is the basis for improving the health of the basin. In this study, Analytic Hierarchy Process was used to establish an evaluation index system for the Beiyun River Basin from 5 aspects including water quality, biology, habitat, hydrology, and social functions, and to assign weights to the index layer. The evaluation results showed that the health evaluation results of the Beiyun River Basin in 2019 are “sub-healthy”, and the overall health status is gradually worsening from northwest to southeast. In the middle reaches of the region, the evaluation result is "healthy", followed by the upstream, and the downstream is the worst. The results showed that areas with less human interference are in better health. The factors that affect the overall health evaluation status in the basin are the level of nutrition, biodiversity, and vegetation coverage. For the comprehensive management of the Beiyun River, the improvement of water quality and habitat ecological restoration is the key to the health of the upstream ecosystem health status. The improvement of the health status of the downstream should focus on equal emphasis on water quality and quantity, restoration of biodiversity, and improvement of the quality of the riparian ecological environment.

This study elaborates a methodology for choosing a transport strategy based on the selection of the optimal route and type of transport. The research examines carriage by containers and includes two ways of transportation: by container block trains and by trucks. The methodology consists of three steps. The first step defines the determination of alternatives routes and criteria for assessment. Eight criteria have been studied: environmental protection; economic criteria; additional transportation fare; the duration of transportation; transhipment operations; security; reliability; stability. In the second step three approaches have been used and compared to determine the weights of the criteria: the Shannon entropy method, which is based on information from data, expert assessments by means of the Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method and the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method. The third step determines the optimal solution based on the Compromise programming method. The methodology is approbated for routes from the railway and road network of Bulgaria. The results show that the criteria with the greatest impact are: the economic criteria; the duration of transportation and environmental protection. It was found out that the technologies that include rail transport are the best variant of transportation. The presented methodology could be used for choosing transportation for other destinations in the transport network.

To highlight the differences in water quality impacts of different indicators in water samples, this paper proposes a grey clustering method based on improved analytic hierarchy process to evaluate the quality of surface water. According to the pollution degree of different indicators in the water quality sample, the importance score is assigned, and the weight of different indicators is calculated by the analytic hierarchy process. The weight participates in the calculation of the grey clustering coefficient, and the evaluated water quality category considers the difference of the contribution rate of different pollutant indicators. The water quality samples of three water periods (Abundant, Normal, and Poor water flow periods) in the four sections of Qingshui River in Duyun City (Tea garden, Youhang, Yingpan and Jiadeng) were selected for evaluation, and the conventional grey clustering method and single factor method were used. The evaluation results were compared and analyzed. The evaluation results show that the improved grey clustering method is more scientific and reasonable and can provide a basis for water quality assessment and water environment management of water environment management departments.

The tank cascade system (TCS) has been used for over 2000 years for water management in Sri Lanka. Since surface water is limited in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, agricultural production, especially of upland crops, relies on groundwater for irrigation. We sampled 29 wells in the Ulagalla cascade, a prominent TCS near Anuradhapura city in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, in Yala (dry) and Maha (wet) seasons, the two main cropping seasons in Sri Lanka. We evaluated the suitability of groundwater for irrigation using the analytic hierarchy process and geographical information system. Water quality did not vary notably between seasons. However, it deteriorated with the onset of high intensity heavy rain, especially during the Maha season. A water quality zoning map indicated that groundwater in 4% and 96% of the study area is suitable and moderately suitable for irrigation, respectively. Irrigation water quality in tank cascade landscapes and similar environments can be assessed using this methodology and our results.

Hydrogeological survey of wider Majdanpek mining area in the Carpathian mountain arch of eastern Serbia, including open mine pits, tailings sites, and major karstic springs and caves has been undertaken in order to estimate environmental conditions in groundwater body (GWB) ?Krs?sever?, groundwater quality, and to investigate causes of their earlier indicated poor chemical status. Bearing in mind that Majdanpek copper mine field is directly bordering the karst aquifer and delineated GWB ?Krs?sever?, the two karst springs namely Valja Fundata and Kaludjerica were in situmeasured and sampled in high and low-water periods (spring 2019, late autumn 2019 and spring 2020). Sampling and analysis of groundwater were carried out under the frame of project ?Operational Monitoring of Groundwater of the Republic of Serbia?, established by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Serbia. The field measurements of unstable chemical components and physical properties as well as laboratory analyses confirmed very poor and even hazardous water quality of both surveyed springs Valja Fundata and Kaludjerica. Registered concentrations of some ions, such as Fe2+, Mn2+, Ca2+, SO4 2?are high above maximal permitted level for potable water in Serbia. High turbidity rate also confirms impact of colloidal suspensions from the tailing which is located in karstic blind valley. Leakage of mine water passes through joints, open cavities and even large cave system Valja Fundata. Results of undertaken survey confirm that low-water period results with worse water quality and much higher concentration of hazardous substances than that characterized high-water season when infiltrated rainy water and/or melted snow dilute tailing?s wastewater. Strict application of environmental protection measures and de - sign/construction of the smaller water treatment facility at both surveyed springs should possibly mitigate the impacts of mining activities to karst groundwater and dependant ecosystem.

The indices system for the evaluation of green degree of concrete is established based on the function, durability and environmental protection of green concrete with involving both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Primary data is processed according to the green relation theory and in the meantime, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is adopted to achieve the weight of indices, and in this way, the levels of the evaluation is fully expressed. The calculation of the correlation coefficient of each level leads to the concrete with the highest green degree, through which the evaluation of the green degree of concrete is received. And the example in this paper also proves the feasibility of the method above.
