This paper details an empirical investigation of the factors that determine the intention of adopting and using electronic health records (EHR). The paper’s goal is a study aimed at examining the possibilities and intents towards EHR amongst healthcare professionals in Nigeria. In this study, an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that incorporates Subjective norm, Social influence, Result demonstrability, Computer self-efficacy and System quality to the original TAM constructs was proposed. The proposed model was empirically tested using data collected from a sample of 126 healthcare professionals across 14 healthcare delivery institutions in Oyo State, Southwestern, Nigeria by applying structural equation modeling (SEM). These data were collected by administering a questionnaire containing 30 items. The results of the evaluation showed that all constructs have significant effect on healthcare professionals’ behavioural intention to use EHR.

Snapchat, and Instagram are two social networks which recently gain their users after adopting such a feature called "Story" which allows a certain post to be disappeared after a certain time. This research takes up this technology trends analyzing the factors that probably affect the behavioral intention to use Snapchat and Instagram stories among generation Z. Factors are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling, with basis model and variables from Technology Acceptance Model. Data collection was targeted to finished within 1 week using online questionnaire with respondent from Jakarta and Tangerang for 100 respondent that are using both Snapchat stories and Instagram Stories. There are two tools researcher usually use to analyze Structural Equation Modeling: SPSS AMOS and LISREL. In this research, researchers choose AMOS. From six hypothesis proposed for Snapchat analysis, four hypothesis is accepted, while the other two are rejected. Meanwhile, on Instagram Stories analysis, five hypothesis is accepted and one hypothesis is rejected. This study finds out the Social Presence is an exogenous variable which has a major role in affecting other variables. While Perceived Enjoyment influenced the behavioral intention to use Snapchat and Instagram Stories the most. Information and communications technologies are a significant component of the healthcare domain, and electronic health records play a major role in it. Therefore, it is important that they are accepted en masse by healthcare professionals. How healthcare professionals perceive the usefulness of electronic health records and their attitudes towards them have been shown to have significant effects on the overall acceptance in many healthcare systems around the world. This paper investigates the role of perceived usefulness and attitude on the intention to use electronic health records by future healthcare professionals using polynomial regression with response surface analysis. Results show that the relationships between these variables are more complex than predicted in prior research. The paper concludes that the properties of the above determinants must be further investigated to clearly understand: (i) their role in predicting the intention to use electronic health records; and (ii) in designing systems that are better adopted by healthcare professionals of the future.

Abstract Introduction Electronic Health Records (EHR) help physicians make effective decisions in patient care. With limited research in this area in Kuwait, we sought to identify the factors that contribute to the current use and satisfaction of EHR in Kuwait. Methods This cross-sectional study took place in a public hospital in 2019. Three-hundred ten physicians were recruited through convenience sampling (response rate: 95%). The survey which was translated into Arabic, was self-administered and it contained 48 statements. The Technology Acceptance Model was used as the theoretical framework. The dependent variables were satisfaction with EHR and current use of EHR. The main independent variables were barriers of using the EHR, perceived level of ease for using EHR, and effect of EHR on the physicians' work. Descriptive analysis, followed by bivariate, multivariate linear regression adjusted for demographics were conducted. Results The study sample consisted of predominantly males (82%), non-Kuwaiti (84%), and of young age (42% were 30-39 years old). The majority of the participants (76%) were currently using the EHR system. The physicians' satisfaction with use of EHR system was moderate (Mean: 3.47, SD: 0.81, range 1.33-5). The EHR effect on the physicians' work was the most significant predictor of satisfaction (β = 0.491, p = 0.000), followed by the level of ease (β = 0.274, p = 0.000), and length of use of EHR (β = 0.100, p = 0.006). Perceptions of barriers was the strongest predictor of current use of EHR (β=-0. 417, p = 0.000), followed by level of ease (β = 0.227, p = 0.000) and quality of a related training (β = 0.195, p = 0.000). Conclusions In the promotion of EHR use and related satisfaction, making the use of EHR functions (e.g. registration of clinical notes) as easy as possible seems to be a key factor. Other factors to consider are removing the barriers physicians face, making the benefits of use of EHR visible, and ensuring a high quality related training. Key messages Most physicians in a Kuwaiti public hospital use the EHR system. Perceived barriers, effect of EHR on the physicians’ work, and user-friendly application of EHR are associated with satisfaction and EHR use.

The fourth industrial revolution has produced new information technology (IT) that is widely used in the healthcare industry. Although the nature of the institution affects IT adoption, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), a dominant theory, has dismissed its role and influence. Our research investigates how institutions influence the adoption of new IT by using the Institution-based Technology Acceptance Model (ITAM). We conducted an empirical test by using survey data collected from 300 employees in the public sector. Structural equation modeling was applied to test the proposed hypotheses. The results showed the total effect of institutions on the intention to use new IT is positive and significant. Second, IT adoption is not only affected by external institutions but also by type of institution; the external institution takes a greater role in inducing perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and intention to use than does the internal. Third, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness play mediating roles between institution and IT adoption. Fourth, an alternative expanded model to which more individual and organizational factors were added confirmed the results of the base model. We concluded that institutions have a strong impact on the level of intention for IT use through perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness.
