Although heritage language phonology is often argued to be fairly stable, heritage language speakers often sound noticeably different from both monolinguals and second-language learners. In order to model these types of asymmetries, I propose a theoretical framework—an integrated multilingual sound system—based on modular representations of an integrated set of phonological contrasts. An examination of general findings in laryngeal (voicing, aspiration, etc.) phonetics and phonology for heritage languages shows that procedures for pronouncing phonemes are variable and plastic, even if abstract may representations remain stable. Furthermore, an integrated multilingual sound system predicts that use of one language may require a subset of the available representations, which illuminates the mechanisms that underlie phonological transfer, attrition, and acquisition.

Let us consider the prime field of two elements, $\mathbb F_2.$ It is well-known that the classical "hit problem" for a module over the mod 2 Steenrod algebra $\mathscr A$ is an interesting and important open problem of Algebraic topology, which asks a minimal set of generators for the polynomial algebra $\mathcal P_m:=\mathbb F_2[x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_m]$, regarded as a connected unstable $\mathscr A$-module on $m$ variables $x_1, \ldots, x_m,$ each of degree 1. The algebra $\mathcal P_m$ is the $\mathbb F_2$-cohomology of the product of $m$ copies of the Eilenberg-MacLan complex $K(\mathbb F_2, 1).$ Although the hit problem has been thoroughly studied for more than 3 decades, solving it remains a mystery for $m\geq 5.$ The aim of this work is of studying the hit problem of five variables. More precisely, we develop our previous work \cite{D.P3} on the hit problem for $\mathscr A$-module $\mathcal P_5$ in a degree of the generic form $n_t:=5(2^t-1) + 18.2^t,$ for any non-negative integer $t.$ An efficient approach to solve this problem had been presented. Moreover, we provide an algorithm in MAGMA for verifying the results and studying the hit problem in general. As an consequence, the calculations confirmed Sum's conjecture \cite{N.S2} for the relationship between the minimal sets of $\mathscr A$-generators of the polynomial algebras $\mathcal P_{m-1}$ and $\mathcal P_{m}$ in the case $m=5$ and degree $n_t.$ Two applications of this study are to determine the dimension of $\mathcal P_6$ in the generic degree $5(2^{t+4}-1) + n_1.2^{t+4}$ for all $t > 0$ and describe the modular representations of the general linear group of rank 5 over $\mathbb F_2.$ As a corollary, the cohomological "transfer", defined by W. Singer \cite{W.S1}, is an isomorphism at the bidegree $(5, 5+n_0).$ Singer's transfer is one of the relatively efficient tools to approach the structure of mod-2 cohomology of the Steenrod algebra.

In 1993, Sim proved that all the faithful irreducible representations of a finite metacyclic group over any field of positive characteristic have the same degree. In this paper, we restrict our attention to non-modular representations and generalize this result for — (1) finite metabelian groups, over fields of positive characteristic coprime to the order of groups, and (2) finite groups having a cyclic quotient by an abelian normal subgroup, over number fields.

The modular representations of the FpWn-Specht modules( , )KSas linear codes is given in our paper [6], and the modular irreducible representations of the FpW4-submodules( , )pFNof the Specht modules pFS ( , )as linear codes where W4is the Weyl group of type B4is given in our paper [5]. In this paper we are concerning of finding the linear codes of the representations of the irreducible FpW4-submodules( , )pFNof the FpW4-modules( , )pFMfor each pair of partitions( , )of a positive integer n4, where FpGF(p) is the Galois field (finite field) of order p, and pis a prime number greater than or equal to 3. We will find in this paper a generator matrix of a subspace((2,1),(1))()pU representing the irreducible FpW4-submodules((2,1),(1))pFNof the FpW4-modules((2,1),(1))pF Mand give the linear code of ((2,1),(1))()pU for each prime number p greater than or equal to 3. Then we will give the linear codes of all the subspaces( , )()pUfor all pair of partitions( , )of a positive integer n4, and for each prime number p greater than or equal to 3.We mention that some of the ideas of this work in this paper have been influenced by that of Adalbert Kerber and Axel Kohnert [13], even though that their paper is about the symmetric group and this paper is about the Weyl groups of type Bn

The Mullineux involution is a relevant map that appears in the study of the modular representations of the symmetric group and the alternating group. The fixed points of this map  are certain partitions of particular interest. It is known that the cardinality of the set of these self-Mullineux partitions is equal to the cardinality of a distinguished subset of self-conjugate partitions. In this work, we give an explicit bijection between the two families of partitions in terms of the Mullineux symbol.

AbstractIn this paper we introduce a novel family of Markov chains on the simple representations of SL2$\left ({\mathbb {F}_p}\right )$ F p in defining characteristic, defined by tensoring with a fixed simple module and choosing an indecomposable non-projective summand. We show these chains are reversible and find their connected components and their stationary distributions. We draw connections between the properties of the chain and the representation theory of SL2$\left ({\mathbb {F}_p}\right )$ F p , emphasising symmetries of the tensor product. We also provide an elementary proof of the decomposition of tensor products of simple SL2$\left ({\mathbb {F}_p}\right )$ F p -representations.

AbstractFor a classical group over a non-archimedean local field of odd residual characteristic p, we construct all cuspidal representations over an arbitrary algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p, as representations induced from a cuspidal type. We also give a fundamental step towards the classification of cuspidal representations, identifying when certain cuspidal types induce to equivalent representations; this result is new even in the case of complex representations. Finally, we prove that the representations induced from more general types are quasi-projective, a crucial tool for extending the results here to arbitrary irreducible representations.
