In this paper the relationship between price and rent dynamics in the Italian housing market is studied. The aim is reached through the implementation of a multivariate autoregressive model (VAR), that makes it possible to explain the interdependencies of multiple time series. The analysis considers a series of macroeconomic variables in the model that in the deductive interpretation of the phenomenon and on the basis of other experiences in current literature, were evaluated as potential keys to understanding the relationship between prices and rents. The variables selected, along with residential realestate prices and real residential rents, were: the real short term interest rate, the time series of the annual differences between the actual and the expected Gross Domestic Product, real investments in housing. The data series cover the period from 1980 to 2008. The results obtained show some peculiarities of the Italian real estate market.

Abstract The degradation of mangrove forests in the Konawe Selatan District has been very rapid over the past three decades. Increases in population growth in coastal areas have been associated with rapid development, including the need for land for housing and livelihood. This development has led to land conversion from mangrove forests to other uses. The aim of the research was to identify the pattern of spatial change of mangrove forests in South Konawe using a geospatial approach from 1984 to 2014. Landuse classification was generated through the processing of Landsat satellite imagery in multiple time series. The research showed that that between 1984 and 1993 in South Konawe District about 9.9% of mangrove forest was converted into open land, 2.3% into aquaculture ponds, and 0.4% into settlements. From 1993 to 2003, the rate of conversion increased rapidly as 13.8% of the remaining mangrove forest was cleared for aquaculture ponds and 1.5% into a settlement. Over the past three decades, 39.9% of mangrove forest in the district has been converted to other uses, and some of this conversion has occurred in protected areas. It’s recommended that the stronger enforcement of regulations pertaining to the protection of mangrove forests in South Konawe.

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) onboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Program (S-NPP) satellite, launched in late 2011, has reached the decade landmark under successful operations. VIIRS has 22 spectral bands, 7 of which are thermal emissive bands (TEB) that cover the 3.70 to 11.84 μm wavelength range. Over the years, VIIRS TEB observations have been used to generate several data products (e.g., surface/cloud/atmospheric temperatures, cloud top altitude, and water vapor properties). The VIIRS TEB calibration uses a quadratic algorithm and is referenced to an on-board blackbody with temperature measurements traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology standard. This manuscript provides an overview of the VIIRS instrument operations and TEB calibration activities and algorithms used in the level 1B data and describes the TEB on-orbit performance for S-NPP VIIRS. The 10-year on-orbit performance of the S-NPP VIIRS TEB has generally been stable, and the degradations in the S-NPP TEB detector responses are minor after a decade in orbit. The noise characterization performance repeatedly meets the design requirements for all TEB detectors as well. On-orbit changes in the TEB response-versus-scan-angle, based on pitch maneuver observations, have been demonstrated to be extremely small. Moreover, multiple time series over select ground targets have shown that the sensor’s on-orbit performance is quite stable.

The spaghetti problem arises in graphics when multiple time series or other functional traces show mostly a tangled mess. The related paella problem (often experienced but not usually named as such) arises for multiple patterns combined in scatterplots. This column is a sequel to those in Stata Journal 10: 670–681 (2010) and 19: 989–1008 (2019). The focus is on what are here called front-and-back plots, in which each subset of data is shown separately with the other subsets as backdrop. The strategy is thus a hybrid of two more common strategies, showing each subset separately (juxtaposing) and showing subsets together (superimposing). A new command, fabplot, is introduced and used in examples.

Background First responders (eg, police, firefighters, and paramedics) are at high risk of experiencing poor mental health. Physical activity interventions can help reduce symptoms and improve mental health in this group. More research is needed to evaluate accessible, low-cost methods of delivering programs. Social media may be a potential platform for delivering group-based physical activity interventions. Objective This study aims to examine the feasibility and acceptability of delivering a mental health–informed physical activity program for first responders and their self-nominated support partners. This study also aims to assess the feasibility of applying a novel multiple time series design and to explore the impact of the intervention on mental health symptoms, sleep quality, quality of life, and physical activity levels. Methods We co-designed a 10-week web-based physical activity program delivered via a private Facebook group. We provided education and motivation around different topics weekly (eg, goal setting, overcoming barriers to exercise, and reducing sedentary behavior) and provided participants with a Fitbit. A multiple time series design was applied to assess psychological distress levels, with participants acting as their own control before the intervention. Results In total, 24 participants (12 first responders and 12 nominated support partners) were recruited, and 21 (88%) completed the postassessment questionnaires. High acceptability was observed in the qualitative interviews. Exploratory analyses revealed significant reductions in psychological distress during the intervention. Preintervention and postintervention analysis showed significant improvements in quality of life (P=.001; Cohen d=0.60); total depression, anxiety, and stress scores (P=.047; Cohen d=0.35); and minutes of walking (P=.04; Cohen d=0.55). Changes in perceived social support from family (P=.07; Cohen d=0.37), friends (P=.10; Cohen d=0.38), and sleep quality (P=.28; Cohen d=0.19) were not significant. Conclusions The results provide preliminary support for the use of social media and a multiple time series design to deliver mental health–informed physical activity interventions for first responders and their support partners. Therefore, an adequately powered trial is required.
