This study aims to examine the effect of professionalism, accountability, transparency, excellent service, participation, and rule of law on the regional financial performance of East Tanjung Jabung regency moderated by human resource knowledge. This research was conducted on 89 respondents in 28 OPDs of the Government of East Tanjung Jabung Regency. The data analysis method used SEM-PLS with the WarpPLS 7.0 application. The results of this study indicated that the principles of good governance which referred to Government Regulation Number 101 of 2000 concerning Education and Training for Civil Servant Positions that can positively affect the regional financial performance of East Tanjung Jabung Regency include professionalism, accountability, and participation. Meanwhile, the principles of transparency, excellent service, and rule of law have not been able to maximally affect the regional financial performance of East Tanjung Jabung Regency. Human resource knowledge as a moderating variable was able to strengthen several variables from the principles of good governance, namely human resource knowledge was able to strengthen the effect of professionalism, accountability, transparency, and excellent service. However, the result of research on human resource knowledge was also unable to moderate the effect of participation and rule of law on regional financial performance.

Learning transcends the classroom. To better understand the natural world around them, it is critical that youth have opportunities to make connections and apply their learning in real-world settings. Improving youths’ perceived skills and knowledge contributes to increased academic motivation and continued leadership development. Multi-day residential natural resource camps have shown the ability to teach ecological concepts and develop land management skills, critical thinking skills, and decision-making skills. We tested the ability of a remotely located residential camp to improve leadership skills and natural resource knowledge, using a pre- and post-camp self-assessment, combined with a pre- and post-camp knowledge test. The teaching strategies of the camp—independent investigations, discussion groups, interactions with field scientists, recreational activities, and group problem solving—resulted in participants feeling they had increased their leadership skills and knowledge of natural resource topics. The campers’ perceived increase in knowledge was supported by an increase in score on a knowledge-based test. A residential natural resource camp is an effective activity to engage youth to develop leadership skills and academic motivation, while connecting them to their natural environment.

This chapter provides an introduction to and overview of the knowledge commons research framework. Knowledge commons refers to an institutional approach (commons) to governing the production, use, management, and/or preservation of a particular type of resource (knowledge). The research framework supplies a template for interrogating the details of knowledge commons institutions on a case study basis, generating qualitative data that may be used to support comparative analysis.

We attempt to improve user satisfaction with the effects of retrieval results and visual appearance by employing users’ own information. User feedback on digital platforms has been proven to be one type of user cognition. Through conducting a digital literature resource organization model based on user cognition, our proposal improves both the content and presentation of retrieval systems. This paper takes Powell's City of Books as an example to describe the construction process of a knowledge network. The model consists of two parts. In the unstructured data part, synopses and reviews were recorded as representatives of user cognition. To build the resource category, linguistic and semantic analyses were used to analyze the concepts and the relationships among them. In the structural data part, the metadata of every book was linked with each other by informetrics relationships. The semantic resource was constructed to assist with building the knowledge network. We conducted a mock-up to compare the new category and knowledge-recommendation system with the current retrieval system. Thirty-nine subjects examined our mock-up and highly valued the differences we made for the improvements in retrieval and appearance. Knowledge recommendation based on user cognition was tested to be positive based on user feedback. There could be more research objects for digital resource knowledge recommendations based on user cognition.

Production enterprises mainly focus on activities concerning tangible resources. In recent years, however, this focus has shifted increasingly towards intangible resources such as knowledge as a key resource. Knowledge plays a crucial role in building an enterprise’s competitive advantage, including that of mining entities involved in coal extraction. This article presents results of research into the causes of unplanned stoppages in the operation of longwall shearers. An examination of the parameters of the longwall shearer operation reveals an oversight in recording the causes of many unplanned machinery stoppages. Using informatics tools, the authors determine the reasons for most stoppages. The knowledge gained in this research has practical significance in providing a basis for implementing actions to limit the number of stoppages and improve the effectiveness of the machinery.
