The data transmission on network channel has increased tremendously in the past few decades. Watermarking is a process to add watermark as a digital signal, label, or tag into a cover media. The primary requirements of multimedia watermarking are robustness and embedding capability. The robustness is defined as the strength of an algorithm to repel the noise. However, it is challenging to achieve both at the same time. The numerous characteristics of watermarking are very imperative in the multimedia watermarking system. The researchers are using watermarking schemes in various applications such as military, digital forensics, medical, and so on. Attacks of these watermarking harm or uncover the secret information carried in the watermark. Potential researchers have been presented various techniques for balancing or improving these concerns. This chapter reviews the recent multimedia watermarking techniques on the basis of robustness and embedding capability. The characteristics, applications, and attacks on multimedia watermarking techniques are introduced.

This paper reviews the research status of digital image watermarking in the past decade. Considering there are too many publications about the digital image watermarking, we summarize main approaches and point out interesting parts of the researches. Multimedia watermarking technology offers advanced right away throughout the last several years. An electronic watermark is actually facts that are certainly imperceptibly and robustly inserted in the number data in ways that the idea is not taken off. Some sort of watermark commonly consists of information about the foundation, status, or perhaps receiver on the number data. In this review paper, certain requirements and apps intended for watermarking are usually reviewed. Purposes consist of copyright defense, data monitoring, and data pursuing. The fundamental concepts involving watermarking techniques are usually given and highlighted along with offered watermarking options for pictures, movie, audio tracks, text message files, along with advertising. Robustness and safety measures elements are usually mentioned in greater detail. Finally, several remarks are created around the cutting edge and possible potential trends inside watermarking technology.

Intellectual property right, copyright, trade mark, digital rights management (DRM) are buzz words heard more often in era of Internet. Along with the uncountable advantages Internet has also brought certain evils. These evils have social, technological, economical and legal impact on our society in general. One of the issues concerning the “content creators” is mass violations of copyrights for their work through illegal distribution via “darknet”. Watermarking is seen as one of the component for DRM systems that can act as a deterrent to content flowing into the darknet. The performance of watermarking schemes can be improved if channel codes are used for encoding the hidden message. The chapter targets applications of Error Control Coding (ECC) to watermarking namely: copyright protection, authentication, forensics and stego watermarking techniques including active steganography. This chapter aims at studying various properties of watermarking systems (depending on application), looking into their specific requirements and then try to search for suitable error control code. This will boost the over all performance of watermarking techniques. This chapter also intends to discuss the state of art research in this direction and then presents a watermarking method based on facts covered in chapter.

The tremendous advancement of digital technology has increased the ease with which digital multimedia signals (image, video, audio) are stored, transmitted, and reproduced. Consequently, the content providers and owners are faced with problems of protection against copyright violation and other forms of abuse to their digital property. Digital watermarking has been proposed in the last decade as a solution to prevent illegal and malicious copying and distribution of digital media by embedding an unnoticeable information into the media content. This chapter describes three imperceptible and robust watermarking algorithms for different types of multimedia objects (image, video, audio). The three algorithms are based on cascading two powerful mathematical transforms; the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The two transforms are different, and thus provide complementary levels of robustness against the same attack. In the proposed dual-transform algorithms, the watermark bits are not embedded directly on the wavelet coefficients, but rather on the elements of singular values of the DWT sub-bands of the multimedia object. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is demonstrated through extensive experimentation.

Digital watermarking is a useful and powerful tool for multimedia security such as copyright protection, tamper proofing and assessment, broadcast monitoring, and fingerprinting. Many multimedia services are provided through wire/wireless communications, where transmission errors are present. Robustness of watermarking is a major concern during the transmission of watermarked multimedia messages. Multiple description coding (MDC) is a promising method for robust transmission of information over non-prioritized and unpredictable networks. As a source coding scheme, multiple description coding has been extensively studied and applied in audio, image, and video sources. It is also interesting to find that multiple description coding can be applied in multimedia watermarking. Recently several multiple description watermarking schemes have been developed which have exhibited some advantages. In this chapter, the concept, design algorithms, and some applications of multiple description coding are reviewed. Particularly, the application of MDC in watermarking, known as multiple description watermarking, is elaborated based on recent research results.

Since the past decade, multimedia protection technologies have been attracting more and more researchers. Among them, multimedia encryption and watermarking are two typical ones. Multimedia encryptionen codes media data into an unintelligible form, which emphasizes on confidentiality protection. Multimedia watermarking embeds information into media data, which can be detected or extracted and used to authenticate the copyright. Traditionally, in multimedia distribution, media data are encrypted and then transmitted, while the copyright information is not considered. As an important application, to trace illegal distributors, the customer information (e.g., customer ID) is embedded into media data, which can trace illegal distributors. In this chapter, the multimedia distribution scheme based on watermarking technology is investigated, which realizes both confidentiality protection and copyright protection. Firstly, some related works, including multimedia encryption and digital watermarking, are introduced. Then, the existing watermarking-based distribution schemes are reviewed and analyzed. Furthermore, the novel scheme is proposed and evaluated. Finally, some open issues are presented.
