Abstract We study Galois actions on 2+1D topological quantum field theories (TQFTs), characterizing their interplay with theory factorization, gauging, the structure of gapped boundaries and dualities, 0-form symmetries, 1-form symmetries, and 2-groups. In order to gain a better physical understanding of Galois actions, we prove sufficient conditions for the preservation of unitarity. We then map out the Galois orbits of various classes of unitary TQFTs. The simplest such orbits are trivial (e.g., as in various theories of physical interest like the Toric Code, Double Semion, and 3-Fermion Model), and we refer to such theories as unitary “Galois fixed point TQFTs”. Starting from these fixed point theories, we study conditions for preservation of Galois invariance under gauging 0-form and 1-form symmetries (as well as under more general anyon condensation). Assuming a conjecture in the literature, we prove that all unitary Galois fixed point TQFTs can be engineered by gauging 0-form symmetries of theories built from Deligne products of certain abelian TQFTs.

The popular model of composite fermions, proposed in order to rationalize FQHE, were insufficient in view of recent experimental observations in graphene monolayer and bilayer, in higher Landau levels in GaAs and in so-called enigmatic FQHE states in the lowest Landau level of GaAs. The specific FQHE hierarchy in double Hall systems of GaAs 2DES and graphene also cannot be explained in the framework of composite fermions. We identify the limits of the usability of the composite fermion model by means of topological methods, which elucidate the phenomenological assumptions in composite fermion structure and admit further development of FQHE understanding. We demonstrate how to generalize these ideas in order to explain experimentally observed FQHE phenomena, going beyond the explanation ability of the conventional composite fermion model.

Odd-even statistical staggering in a Lipkin-like few fermions model has been recently encountered. Of course, staggering in nuclear binding energies is a well established fact. Similar effects are detected in other finite fermion systems as well, as for example, ultra small metallic grains and metal clusters. We work in this effort with the above-mentioned Lipkin-like, two-level fermion model and show that statistical staggering effects can be detailedly explained by recourse to a straightforward analysis of the associated energy-spectra.

The solution of the system of equations for the basic operators of the spin-fermion model is obtained in the form of harmonic oscillations of Fermi operators at two frequencies, and three-frequency harmonic oscillations of the spin-fermion coupling operator (spin-polaron).

This paper deals primarily with relatively novel thermal quantifiers called disequilibrium and statistical complexity, whose role is growing in different disciplines of physics and other sciences. These quantifiers are called L. Ruiz, Mancini, and Calvet (LMC) quantifiers, following the initials of the three authors who advanced them. We wish to establish information-theoretical bridges between LMC structural quantifiers and (1) Thermal Heisenberg uncertainties ΔxΔp (at temperature T); (2) A nuclear physics fermion model. Having achieved such purposes, we determine to what an extent our bridges can be extended to both the semi-classical and classical realms. In addition, we find a strict bound relating a special LMC structural quantifier to quantum uncertainties.
