Crisis in the domestic and world book market: causes and ways to eliminate its consequences

Based on the study of world experience in the development of book trade, the author has developed a number of anti-crisis measures to improve the situation and increase the analysis of the structure of sales, growth in prices for book products. Particular attention in the article is paid to the consideration of modern technologies, such as print on demand, self publishing, ensuring the implementation of the foundations of a lean manufacturing system, reducing costs and inventory, as well as the use of digital prints on Internet platforms as a means of effectively combating the distributors of pirated content on the network.

MUHAMMAD TAHIR VAHID’S WORK «ABBASNAMA» AS A SOURCE FOR STUDYING THE HISTORY OF THE SAFAVID STATE OF AZERBAIJAN DURING THE REIGN OF SHAH ABBAS II

The article examines the importance of Mohammad Tahir Vahid’s «Abbasname» as a source for studying the history of the Safavid state of Azerbaijan during the reign of Shah Abbas II. It is known that narrative sources dedicated to the reign of Shah Abbas II are a minority in historiography. The work «Abbasname» by the 17th century chronicler M.T. Vahid has a special scientific significance in this sense. Manuscripts of the work are kept in world book funds. «Abbasname» describes the events that took place during the reign of Shah Abbas II. Thus, the author has provided valuable scientific information on the military-political history, domestic and foreign policy, socio-economic life of the Safavid state of Azerbaijan.

Yoko Kato: the silent warrior of neurosurgery

The presence of women in neurosurgery is slowly but surely gaining momentum as many aspiring young female medical residents are being enticed by this fascinating branch. History is rife with the struggles of pioneering women who entered the neurosurgical profession against all odds, formed a firm foothold, and built a legacy for generations to emulate. Prof. Yoko Kato has spent her entire lifetime in the service of neurosurgery and taking it to the remotest corners of the world. Her persistence and conviction have made her one of the most admired neurosurgeons in the world and the most loved neurosurgeon for those in the less privileged countries. She has inspired and trained an entire generation of neurosurgeons. Her contributions will always be a glorious chapter in the world book of neurosurgery.

Wizarding World Book Club e a ampliação do universo narrativo: uma análise das ações e das estratégias na rede social digital a partir do clube do livro de Harry Potte

A partir das relações entre os indivíduos que se estabelecem no campo da comunicação midiática, esta dissertação tem como ponto de partida o conceito de deslizamento da narrativa (FIGUEIREDO, 2010, 2020a), especificamente no ecossistema digital, que proporciona interações em rede. A pesquisa desenvolve um estudo sobre o Wizarding World Book Club, clube do livro de Harry Potter criado pelo Pottermore (atual Wizarding World), ambiente em rede oficial da saga. O Book Club foi criado em comemoração aos 20 anos de lançamento do primeiro livro da saga (em seu idioma original, inglês), “Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal”, com início em 2017 e finalizando suas atividades em 2018. O clube do livro teve como rede social digital central o Twitter, mas apresentou desdobramentos no Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat e Periscope, além do site oficial do universo narrativo em questão, o pottermore.com. Busca-se, nesta dissertação, entender quais foram e como funcionaram as estratégias do Wizarding World Book Club e quaissuas consequências. Como corpus de análise da conversação em rede, o fluxo conversacional proveniente do Twitter, rede social carro chefe da ação, foi delimitado a partir de recorte de seleção de tweets dos próprios organizadores, como forma de verificar os estímulos e respostas desses leitores, bem como o laço social (RECUERO, 2012, 2015, 2018) estabelecido entre esses indivíduos em rede e a empresa por trás da ação. Como metodologia, recorreu-se ao Estudo de Caso proposto por Yin (2015), a partir da estratégia analítica de “construção e explicação”, que prevê uma análise dos dados construindo uma explicação sobre o caso. Ao final, apresenta-se, correlativamente, tabela de estratégias comunicacionais provenientes do clube do livro analisado, amparada em uma visão holística do evento, não apenas de dados oriundos do Twitter. Um constructo que fornece uma melhor apuração das estratégias e contribui para futuras pesquisas do campo.

Continuing a love affair after a separation: Ways to promote books for World Book and Copyright Day

Perhaps for the first time since the founding of American libraries, most librarians were divorced from their physical collections as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although college and research libraries are negotiating various service models, including remote, hybrid, and online, librarians continue to serve their communities while access to physical spaces and materials is limited. While some suggest that libraries are better positioned to provide virtual services than ever before, communities continue to ask for physical books.

Tablični prikazi kao prilozi strukturiranosti enciklopedičkih djela

Enciklopedička djela čine sintezu znanja područja koje obrađuju, nerijetko i ukupnih ljudskih dosega u vremenu u kojem nastaju. Važan dio njihova koncepta čini strukturiranost sadržaja radi lakšega pronalaženja, razumijevanja i korištenja željenom informacijom. Važan element te strukturiranosti mogu činiti unificirani tablični prikazi podataka. ovaj rad istražuje zastupljenost, način organizacije i funkcionalnost tabličnih prikaza u nizu enciklopedičkih djela, a osobito onih za koja je utvrđeno da se koriste tabličnim prikazima kao elementima strukturiranosti. Istraživanje je provedeno na svjetskim enciklopedičkim izdanjima (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana, Chambersʼs Encyclopaedia, World Book Encyclopedia, Brockhaus Enzyklopädie, La Grande Encyclopédie, Wikipedija) te projektima hrvatske enciklopedike (Hrvatska enciklopedija, Proleksis enciklopedija i Hrvatska tehnička enciklopedija). Sadržajnom analizom enciklopedičkih projekata utvrđeni su zastupljenost i sadržaj tabličnih prikaza te različitosti i sličnosti vrsta tih prikaza i njihova sadržaja. Također, analizirane su funkcionalnosti takva oblika strukturiranoga sadržaja u mrežnim izdanjima nekih projekata. Pokazalo se kako unificirani tablični prikazi koji prate pojedine tipske članke najviše pridonose strukturiranosti enciklopedičkih djela te otvaraju nove mogućnosti za unutarnje i vanjsko povezivanje sadržaja, razvoja ontologija i sl. evolucija tabličnih prikaza u enciklopedičkim izdanjima, od pukih prikaza usustavljenih podataka u tradicionalnim (tiskanim) izdanjima do sastavnica elemenata strukture mrežnih izdanja, otvara nove mogućnosti u razvoju enciklopedike i dovodi do promjena u pristupu izvedbi mrežnih enciklopedičkih projekata.
