In management and organization research, theory development is often linked with developing a new theory. However, regardless of the number of existing theories, most theories remain empirically untested, and the progress in understanding the application of theories has been scarce. This article discusses how theories are applied in existing management and organization research studies. This study applies the Structural Topic Model to 4636 research papers from the S2ORC dataset. The results reveal twelve research themes, establish correlations, and document the evolution of themes over time. The findings of this study reveal that the theoretical application is not consistent across research themes, theories are primarily used for descriptive and communicative properties, and most research themes in management and organization research are more concerned with discovering phenomena rather than with understanding and forecasting them.

Higher education in the United States is facing a critical juncture. Tuition costs are rising, while measures of success are declining. Students struggle to meet the most basic academic requirements, barely passing their courses. Other students battle physical and mental health difficulties that also impact their ability to do well in college. While institutions recognize the challenges students face, they are poorly equipped to adequately help them. In this book, experts from a variety of disciplines present theory, application, and extensions to guide those working with emerging adults in higher education. It provides faculty, administrators, and staff with the knowledge and skills needed to help today’s students succeed.

The paper presents an overview of the history and achievements of trans-border cooperation in the Lithuania-Germany-Poland triangle in planning instruments in Construction Management, decision-making theory, application of Operational Research, and Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods in Civil Engineering and sustainable development. The cooperation and results of the Colloquiums with 35 years of tradition, their multidimensional nature is underlined. The research instruments, methods, studied phenomena are reviewed and characteristic applications in engineering and economics are presented. The knowledge and combined efforts of three academic centers have created a synergy which set in motion many original methods and spectacular implementations. The Colloquium calendar and the evolution of organizational forms are presented along with the inclusion of the informal EURO Working Group on Operations Research in Sustainable Development and Civil Engineering.

In this paper, the influence of functional elastomeric substrate-supported layers for enhancing potential resistance capability against localized plastic failure of advanced high strength steels is considered based on a localized necking model of vertex theory. Application of this structure leads to postponing the plastic instability of the metallic part. By defining diffuse and localized modes of deformation in a general framework, the theoretical models are developed to predict necking limits at several stress states. In addition, the results of the Hookean and neo-Hookean elastomers are compared in terms of strain hardening with the anisotropy parameter of Hill’s yield criteria. Since necking band angle (NBA) is a principal factor for the necking prediction, its effect on bifurcation events is evaluated specifically for different ratios of stress rate, and quadratic and non-quadratic yield criteria. This analysis is performed by proposing a supported and yield-dependent necking bound angle (YD-NBA). All considerations are done by providing equilibrium conditions governed over the NBA. Finally, obtained results indicate good agreements between several theoretical considerations and experimental data.
