Swelling of Carbopol particles depends on the ionization degree induced by the solvent. In co-solvents, the one with the greatest permeability preferentially penetrates the network yielding the same final dimension obtained with that solvent alone.

This chapter presents the final dimension of Augustine’s theologically differentiated conception of will: the will in the perfection of the eschaton. First, it addresses the fully free character of the eschatological will. This full eschatological freedom is to be distinguished not only from various types of freedom the will enjoys in other periods but also from free choice. The chapter next addresses another key feature of the eschatological will: its inability to sin. Augustine defends the desirability of this “blessed necessity” theologically. Finally, this chapter turns to Augustine’s positive characterization of the eschatological will, focusing particularly on his description of its felicity at the conclusion of City of God.

We propose a mixedness quantifier based on entropy fluctuations. It provides information about the degree of mixedness either for finite dimensional and infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces (HS). It may be used to determine the reduction of the HS as it becomes maximum when either the state is maximally mixed, or when the HS effectively reduces its dimensions, such as in the atom field interaction where the two-level atom dictates the final dimension of the field.

Abstract: In the midst of the existential crisis in which man is nowadays, taking into account the technological and scientific paradigm prevailing in contemporaneity, both the anthropological conception of philosophical or theological bias, as well as the ethical conception, are strongly questioned, which refers to the classical conception of the thesis about the dignity and inviolability of life. Therefore, it is urgent to bring to the discussion the important reflections about the concept of person. Romano Guardini focuses on the attempt to elaborate and understand the man who reflects on himself, the world and God, connecting the notion of immanent and metaphysical anthropology with the transcendent without, with such openness, losing sight of the philosophical character of the problem. From this proposition, we intend to present in this article the conception of the concept of person in Romano Guardini in two central moments: 1) the formal dimension of person, articulated in the three strata, namely, the form, the individuality and personality; 2) the personal and final dimension of the person, articulated from the relationship with others and the religious dimension of man, culminating, therefore, in the “Christian self”, in whose center of irradiation, for Guardini, is the heart. Keywords: Guardini; Body; Individuality; Personality; Person.

In this Essay, we dive deeper into this final dimension to discuss the influence of professional networks on plea negotiations. In particular, we examine the effects of crowdsourcing tactics in the negotiation setting. We describe, for example, what happens when lawyers bargain in public, benefitting from an audience that provides information about past practices and deals. And then we speculate about what might happen if that audience were instead a widely shared database that documents plea practices in the jurisdiction. We offer a few preliminary thoughts about the potential influence of such techniques, as we are not in a position to measure empirically the actual effects of crowdsourcing (either by audience or by database) on the rate or substance of pleas. Instead, we use anecdotal data to discuss how crowdsourcing techniques might affect party behavior and alter the balance of power among prosecutors, defenders, and judges when it comes to plea deals.

AbstractThis article examines five miniatures in the “Hours of Catherine of Cleves” (completed 1442), each containing representations of jewelry in the margins, which operate on two different levels. First, they demonstrate Catherine of Cleves’s adoration of five female saints. I argue that the fictive jewelry may be understood as simulated ex-votos designed to secure the aid and protection of the saints. Second, the images establish strategic alliances with each saint. As a final dimension, I explore how the vitae of these saints may have had resonances for the duchess that help explain the focus placed on them in the manuscript.
