The newspaper emerged as a distinct cultural form in early 17th-century Europe. It is bound up with the early modern period of history. Historical newspapers are of utmost importance to nations and its people, and researchers from different disciplines rely on these papers to improve our understanding of the past. In pursuit of satisfying this need, Istanbul University Head Office of Library and Documentation provides access to a big database of scanned historical newspapers. To take it another step further and make the documents more accessible, we need to run optical character recognition (OCR) and named entity recognition (NER) tasks on the whole database and index the results to allow for full-text search mechanism. We design and implement a system encompassing the whole pipeline starting from scrapping the dataset from the original website to providing a graphical user interface to run search queries, and it manages to do that successfully. Proposed system provides to search people, culture and security-related keywords and to visualise them.

Belgium was one of the first European countries to establish a local ‘national’ branch of the global Indymedia network. The diversity of those involved in this ‘national movement’ ultimately turned out to be both the strength of the original website and the cause of its decline. Indeed, due to political and organizational disagreement, many activists decided to create their own ‘local’ Independent Media Centre (IMC). This article distinguishes two perspectives on the role of Indymedia: the political activists saw Indymedia as a means to an end, as an instrument to discuss strategies and tactics, and to coordinate social movements and grassroots movements. The media activists, on the contrary, saw Indymedia as an end in itself, as a platform for civil society organizations to make their voices heard and facilitate democratic debate – in this vein, the experience of Indymedia.be was transformed into the alternative news site DeWereldMorgen.be.

Four years after deployment of the public website using the Drupal 7 content management system, the ATLAS Education & Outreach group is in the process of migrating to the new CERN Drupal 8 infrastructure. We present lessons learned from the development, usage and evolution of the original website, and how the choice of technology helped to shape and reinforce our communication strategy. We then discuss tactics for the migration to Drupal 8, including our choice to use the CERN-override theme. This theme was developed by the CERN web team to support clients like the ATLAS experiment at the LHC to develop websites in the relatively complex and non-intuitive environment of Drupal. Furthermore, CERN has encouraged usage of this theme to mitigate support and ease future migration. We present the effects that this choice has on the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the new website.

The tensor nature of single- and polycrystalline materials' physical properties highlights both the diversity of possible technological applications and the difficulties of assimilation for those new to the subject. The Material Properties Open Database (MPOD) [1] is a useful tool that provides access to a wide spectrum of properties tensors for an extensive selection of materials. In the present contribution an extension of the MPOD system is reported. The introduced innovation is the output, in the form of a graphical representation, of registered second, third and fourth rank tensors. The objective, as an educational project, is to provide the crystallographic community a friendly means to help the intuitive understanding of crystalline anisotropy. The given graphical output is the so-called longitudinal surface representation [2]. The accompanying figure shows an example of the MPOD graphical output. Shown surfaces represent the compliance tensor and its inverse (Young's modulus) longitudinal surfaces for a silver single-crystal. MPOD's new version may be accessed by the original website http://www.materialproperties.org/ and also by its Mexican mirror http://mpod.cimav.edu.mx. The MPOD websites continue their development. The international MPOD group systematically adds new published data. Modeling and representing textured polycrystals' properties is on target [3].

This paper introduces the technology that dynamically and automatically embedding watermark into digital pictures in ASP.NET web site without changing the original website code, and meanwhile gives the primary code which implements the function. The technology proposed in this paper is an efficient, cheap and feasible solution.
