The single crystal of cis-2,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3,3-dimethylpiperidin-4-one (4C3DMPO) has been grown using a slow evaporation technique. 4C3DMPO is a non-centrosymmetric crystal which crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with space group Pna21. Benzene is used as a solvent for the crystal growth based on solubility studies. The mechanical studies, using microhardness methods, have also been carried out. The compound is characterised using UV, FT-IR and NMR spectral studies. Furthermore, the thermal stability of the crystal is established by TG/DTA. The nonlinear optical studies (SHG) of the crystal have been determined using the Kurtz and Perry powder technique and the activity observed is 2.5 times greater than that of KDP.

Single crystal of Thiourea Sodium Sulphate (TSS) was prepared by a slow evaporation technique. The optical absorption and absorption coefficient are studied by UV. Vis.-NIR The voids or defects of the TSS crystal were carried out by its surface morphology analysis by SEM. The NLO properties of shocked TSS single crystal were estimated by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopic analysis. Finally the nonlinear optical property of TSS crystal was estimated by Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and the suitability of present titled mono crystal against mechanical resistivity after the shock for non linear optics and for photonic application has been confirmed.

AbstractNonlinear optical single crystals of L-histidine nitrate (LHN) as well as 0.05 mol % Y2+ doped LHN and 0.10 mol % Y2+ doped LHN were successfully grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The lower cutoff wavelength and transmittance were 339 nm, 343 nm, 347 nm and 84 %, 86 % and 87 % for LHN, 0.05 mol % and 0.10 mol % yttrium doped LHN, respectively. Powder XRD studies revealed that the grown materials belong to an orthorhombic system with the space group P212121. FT-IR peak at 534 cm−1 due to yttrium coordinated with oxygen was observed. The EDAX analysis confirmed the presence of such elements as C, N, O and Y in the grown materials. High intensity PL emission peak was obtained at 420 nm.

Single crystals of 2-Aminothiazole 3,5-Dinitrobenzoic acid has been synthesized and good quality optical crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The crystallinity nature of the grown crystal was confirmed from X-ray diffraction technique. An optical transmittance study was also carried out by UV – Vis spectra. FTIR spectra confirm the presence of functional groups in the grown crystal. The dielectric measurements were carried out in the range of 50Hz to 2MHz. The dielectric constant was seen to increase exponentially at lower frequencies. The microhardness studies were carried out using Vickers hardness indenter. Photoluminescence study shows that maximum emission occurs at 435nm.

Optically transparent single crystals of potassium acid phthalate (KAP, 0.5 g) 0.05 g and 0.1 g (1 and 2 mol %) trytophan were grown in aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Single crystal X- ray diffraction analysis confirmed the changes in the lattice parameters of the doped crystals. The presence of functional groups in the crystal lattice has been determined qualitatively by FTIR analysis. Optical absorption studies revealed that the doped crystals possess very low absorption in the entire visible region. The dielectric constant has been studied as a function of frequency for the doped crystals. The thermal stability was evaluated by TG-DSC analysis.

The phase diagram of anthranilic acid and N,N-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde system gives two eutectics (E1 and E2) and a 1:1 intermolecular compound with congruent melting point. The mole fractions of anthranilic acid at E1 and E2 are 0.10 and 0.95, respectively. The negative values of heat of mixing of eutectics suggest that there is clustering of molecules in their eutectic liquid melt. The positive values of excess free energy for eutectics indicate that the interactions between the like molecules are stronger than those of unlike molecules. It can be inferred from single crystal X-ray analysis of the intermolecular compound that it crystallized in monoclinic unit cell with C2/c space group and a reasonably large sized intermolecular compound crystal was grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The optical studies on the intermolecular compound give two strong emission bands with two lmax values one at 380 nm and second at 450 nm with total quantum efficiency 0.49.
