Abstract The ab-initio computations were performed to study the electronic and optoelectronic properties of RhXO3 (X = Ga, Ag) using WIEN2k code. The RhGaO3 has band gap of 2.29 eV, and the behavior of RhAgO3 metallic. The sub-TDOS of the studied materials revealed that rhodium and oxygen atoms have significant contributions in the valence band and conduction band formation of both materials. The silver cation is responsible for the reasonable peaks appearing at the Fermi level of RhAgO3, which demonstrated the conducting nature of RhAgO3. The dielectric functions, optical conductivity, energy loss function, absorption coefficient, refractive index, extinction coefficient, and reflectivity are computed for these materials to understand the optical behavior of the studied materials. The analysis of optical properties ensure the RhGaO3 is a promising material for optoelectronics while RhAgO3 has metallic nature.

InSb the group III-V semiconductor with narrow band gap is combined with Mn in various concentrations and that InSb–Mn alloy is doped with poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA). The optical properties and electronic structure of ternary InSb–Mn alloy with PMMA are investigated by first principles calculations using the DFT method. Varying Mn concentrations play an important role in the improvement of the absorption coefficient and optical conductivity. It is observed that the band gap of InSb–Mn: PMMA decreases monotonously with the increase in Mn concentration. Optical properties of InSb–Mn: PMMA, such as the optical absorption coefficient and optical conductivity, are greater than those of pure InSb. InSb–Mn: PMMA alloy is doped with PMMA polymer in order to make a thin film as PMMA is a transparent thermoplastic polymer. These results suggest a promising application of InSb–Mn: PMMA thin film in optoelectronics when the InSb doping is 24% with improved conductivity when compared with other doping ratios. This states the optimum doping ratio and the major finding in the carried out research based on modelling and simulation.

The energy dissipation for one cycle of clay soil deformation over the area of a hysteresis loop under conditions of one-dimensional deformation has been experimentally studied. Several series of trials were carried out under different conditions of soil density and moisture and different loading modes. It was established by the experiments that after several cycles of loading and unloading of the samples, the transient process of the closed loop formation ends and certain dependences of stress on deformations are established in the sections of the ascending and descending branches of the hysteresis loop. To determine these dependencies, rheological relations obtained directly from the hysteresis loop by approximating the arcs of its contour have been used. By integrating the approximating rheological dependences along the branches of the loop, the dissipated energy per deformation cycle has been obtained as a function of cyclic deformation amplitude, measured by the area of the hysteresis loop. Experiments on obtaining a hysteresis loop were carried out on a compression device with a cyclic sample. Samples with different states of density and moisture content were produced by consolidating a paste having yield point moisture under different pressures. Several series of experiments have been carried out. In the first series, soil absorption coefficients were derived for different states of density-moisture at different loading rates. In the second series, three types of clayish soil (clay, loam, sandy loam) were studied. Dissipation coefficients have been found out for the indicated soils. In the third series, three types of clay soil were tested under different conditions of density and moisture. The dissipation coefficients have been obtained. In the fourth series, the dependences of the absorption coefficient on the amplitude value of the cyclic stress for three types of clay soil were disclosed. It was found that a change in the loading rate within the range from 0.05 MPa to 0.2 MPa does not lead to the significant change in the absorption coefficient, the increase in the number of clay fractions in the sample leads to an increase in the absorption coefficient, a change in the amplitude of cyclic loading (in the indicated range of change) does not affect the absorption coefficient.

We investigate the entanglement dynamics in a free-fermion chain initially prepared in a Fermi sea and subjected to localized losses (dissipative impurity). We derive a formula describing the dynamics of the entanglement entropies in the hydrodynamic limit of long times and large intervals. The result depends only on the absorption coefficient of the effective delta potential describing the impurity in the hydrodynamic limit. Genuine dissipation-induced entanglement is certified by the linear growth of the logarithmic negativity. Finally, in the quantum Zeno regime at strong dissipation the entanglement growth is arrested (Zeno entanglement death).

A composite structure composed of a porous-material layer mosaicked with a perforated resonator is proposed to improve the low-frequency sound absorption of the porous layer. This structure is investigated in the form of a porous-material matrix (PM) and a perforated resonator (PR), and the PR is a thin perforated plate filled with porous material in its back cavity. Theoretical and numerical models are established to predict the acoustic impedance and sound absorption coefficient of the proposed structure, and two samples made of polyurethane and melamine, respectively, are tested in an impedance tube. The predicted results are consistent with that of the measured. Compared with a single porous layer with the same thickness, the results show that the designed structure provides an additional sound absorption peak at low frequencies. The proposed structure is compact and has an effective absorption bandwidth of more than two octaves especially below the frequency corresponding to 1/4 wavelength. A comparison is also made between the sound absorption coefficients of the proposed structure and a classical micro-perforated plate (MPP), and the results reveal equivalent acoustic performance, suggesting that it can be used as an alternative to the MPP for low–mid frequency sound absorption. Moreover, the influences of the main parameters on the sound absorption coefficient of PPCS are also analyzed, such as the hole diameter, area ratio, flow resistance, and porous-material thickness in the PR. The mechanism of sound absorption is discussed through the surface acoustic impedance and the distributions of particle velocity and sound pressure at several specific frequencies. This work provides a new idea for the applications of the thin porous layer in low- and medium-frequency sound absorption.

AbstractTo reveal the causes of infrared absorption in the wavelength region between electronic and lattice absorptions, we measured the temperature dependence of the absorption coefficient of p-type low-resistivity ($$\sim 10^2~ \Omega \mathrm{cm}$$ ∼ 10 2 Ω cm ) CdZnTe crystals. We measured the absorption coefficients of CdZnTe crystals in four wavelength bands ($$\lambda =6.45$$ λ = 6.45 , 10.6, 11.6, 15.1$$~\mu $$ μ m) over the temperature range of $$T=8.6$$ T = 8.6 -300 K with an originally developed system. The CdZnTe absorption coefficient was measured to be $$\alpha =0.3$$ α = 0.3 -0.5 $$\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$$ cm - 1 at $$T=300$$ T = 300 K and $$\alpha =0.4$$ α = 0.4 -0.9 $$\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$$ cm - 1 at $$T=8.6$$ T = 8.6 K in the investigated wavelength range. With an absorption model based on transitions of free holes and holes trapped at an acceptor level, we conclude that the absorption due to free holes at $$T=150$$ T = 150 -300 K and that due to trapped-holes at $$T<50$$ T < 50 K are dominant absorption causes in CdZnTe. We also discuss a method to predict the CdZnTe absorption coefficient at cryogenic temperature based on the room-temperature resistivity.

Ternary AlGaN alloys with a band gap of 3.4 to 6.2 eV are very promising for photodetectors in the UV wavelength range. Using the COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS software based on AlGaN, a p-i-n photodiode model was developed, including its I–V characteristic, spectral sensitivity of the received radiation, absorption coefficient as a function of the aluminum fraction and the depletion layer thickness. To calculate the process of interaction of a semiconductor with EM radiation, we used a model based on the use of an element of the transition matrix through the carrier lifetime during spontaneous recombination. In this case, the peak sensitivity of the photodiode is from 0.08 to 0.18 A/W at wavelengths of 0.2–0.33 µm. This is in line with experimental results taken from the relevant literature.
