I aim to understand variation in an important and historically novel socio-political institution, the Chinese lineage. There is extensive geographic variation in the historical prominence and relevance of lineages. Using ethnographic and historical-economic evidence, I construct a theory explaining lineages as risk-pooling institutions, which provide lineage members with access to land. More so, variation in regional demand for risk-pooling and/or access to land likely stems from well-studied rice-wheat agroeconomicdifferences. I test this hypothesis by examining whether lineage activity is associated with landholding size, precipitation predictability, and historically documented precipitation disasters and find support for my hypothesis.

AbstractThis paper studies the perceived difficulty of recruiting scarce competencies to rural regions. Furthermore, the role of policy in facilitating and enhancing recruitment to and better skills matching in rural regions is discussed. Based on a survey targeted to the business sections of Swedish municipalities, the results show that recruitment is perceived to be difficult in both rural and nonrural regions and that the difficulty of recruiting for the right skills results in a lack of skills matching and constitutes an obstacle to growth. Rural regions located close to urban areas can to some extent mitigate these recruitment problems, and their locations pose less of a barrier in recruitment processes compared to those of remotely located rural regions.Which policies can help remedy recruitment problems faced in rural regions? In both rural and nonrural regions, incentives for writing off student debt and relocation support for accompanying persons and tandem recruitment are perceived to be the most promising policies. Rural regions are more receptive to the implementation of such policies. Finally, the need for flexibility and policies that can be adapted to the regional demand for labour are stressed.

We use survey data for up to 292 universities in 17 European countries to examine the influence of the employment share in knowledge-intensive services (KIS), location in a metropolitan region, and competition from other universities and research institutes in the same region on three measures of university knowledge transfer outcomes: the number of research agreements, licensing, and the number of start-ups. The results show that the KIS employment share has a positive correlation with the number of start-ups, while the location in a metropolitan region is positively correlated with the number of research agreements. Competition from quality-weighted universities in the same region as the focal university decreases the number of research and licensing agreements, although the highest-ranked 13.4% of universities benefit from the regional co-location of other high-quality universities for license income. The number of research institutes in the same region is unrelated to the number of research agreements, licenses and start-ups, but has a positive effect on license income. These results suggest that universities compete with top-ranked universities for regional demand for knowledge.

The structure of the grain product sub-complex is presented. The main provisions of the concept of development of the sub-complex at the regional level are determined. The sources of regional demand for grain, as well as the reasons for its growth or decline, have been identified. The criteria of the efficiency of the grain product sub-complex with the allocation of types of indicators, as well as additional coefficients are discussed.

The aim of this paper is to assess the absorption capacity of sui generis innovations of the Czech regions, as well as to estimate their demand capacity for the JAWA electric motorcycle. The starting point is data capturing the reactions of regions to the innovative product line of JAWA motorcycles in the years 2017-2020. Variability analysis was used during the processing, and in the creation of the model for estimating the capacity of regional demand for electric motorcycles also correlation analysis. The real variability of regional sales of the innovative JAWA motorcycle line was high in the monitored period, moreover with a growing trend. Regions also differ in the different speed of acceptance of product innovation. The model for estimating the capacity of regional demand for the JAWA electric motorcycle takes into account both the parameters relevant for the sale of motorcycles in general, and the parameters associated with the elimination of the negative impact of internal combustion engine emissions on the environment. Just they cause a decrease in the variability of the capacity of regional demand for the JAWA electric motorcycle in the Czech regions.

The market of bunkering services forms one of the most important segments of world trade in oil products. In fact, the bunker market provides the work of the entire shipping industry, the share of which in world GDP is growing steadily, and by 2018 was estimated at 10 to 20%. Currently, fuel bunkering is a problem for Ukrainian seaports. Over 15 years, the annual volume of bunkering in Ukrainian ports has decreased tenfold. In Ukraine there are necessary coastal bases in Kherson, Nikolaev, other places. Bunker companies can easily find the right number of bunkers on the market for service in our ports. The volume of the world bunker market is characterized by huge and constantly growing needs of the world navy in material and technical supply of fuel of the vessels of the most different function in scales of the World ocean. The determining factor of regional demand for bunkering is the intensity of vessel traffic. Demand volumes depend primarily on the number of calls to local ports, the scale of port activity, tonnage turnover, the geography of sea routes in the region, the proximity of busy shipping routes and the service of transit flows. In addition, the availability of infrastructure (technical, organizational, information) and adjacent sources of competitive fuel supply at the prices of local refineries (refineries), as well as a range of services, quality of service, traditional procurement, customer confidence. The largest bunker centers in terms of bunker fuel sales per year are Singapore, Fujairah, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Busan, Piraeus, Antwerp, Kaohsiung, Suez Canal, Panama Canal, Houston and Gibraltar. When organizing the flight according to two schemes, two ports for bunkering were considered: Istanbul and the Pivdenny. As a result of calculations in two directions, it can be concluded that Ukrainian ports are attractive for bunkering ships in technological and economic terms. Therefore, when changing the design scheme of the bunker in the ports of Ukraine, you can get some benefits. Both carriers and bunker companies may be interested in this.
