The aim of this paper is to assess the absorption capacity of sui generis innovations of the Czech regions, as well as to estimate their demand capacity for the JAWA electric motorcycle. The starting point is data capturing the reactions of regions to the innovative product line of JAWA motorcycles in the years 2017-2020. Variability analysis was used during the processing, and in the creation of the model for estimating the capacity of regional demand for electric motorcycles also correlation analysis. The real variability of regional sales of the innovative JAWA motorcycle line was high in the monitored period, moreover with a growing trend. Regions also differ in the different speed of acceptance of product innovation. The model for estimating the capacity of regional demand for the JAWA electric motorcycle takes into account both the parameters relevant for the sale of motorcycles in general, and the parameters associated with the elimination of the negative impact of internal combustion engine emissions on the environment. Just they cause a decrease in the variability of the capacity of regional demand for the JAWA electric motorcycle in the Czech regions.

Today, most of the essential energy needs of humans and production are met by fossil fuels that are expected to be exhausted in the next century. Furthermore, fossil fuels are not renewable and sensitive to the environment. In particular, there is growing concerned about the negative impact of internal combustion engine emissions on climate change and global environmental pollution. Fuel and alcohol-based additives are being considered as good candidates for sustainable alternative fuels used on compression ignition engines. In this review, the different key production pathways and properties of each of the five alcohol additive candidates were discussed. Besides, their effects on the emission characteristics of diesel engines when alcohol additives are added to diesel fuel are also carefully considered. Five candidates including methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol have been shown to control pollutants from combustion engines while using alcohol-based additives. This is of great significance in the strategy of coping with the threats of pollution and climate change caused by the operation of transport vehicles

This chapter explores the factors that affect the firm’s decision to undertake product innovation. The discussion encompasses the driving forces that encourage product innovation, for example innovation by others or the ageing of an existing product line; however, the basic rationale is the search for profits. The chapter also addresses decisions about: the extent of innovation in general; horizontal and vertical product innovations separately; and the location of innovations in product space. The role of market structures in the product innovation decision, uncertainty in the innovating environment, and issues relating to emulation and copying are also addressed. Constraints to product innovation that survey data indicate are most important—innovation costs, risk and finance, and the availability of qualified labour—are also addressed.

Internal combustion engine emissions are a serious worldwide problem. To combat this, emission regulations have become stricter with the goal of reducing the proportion of transportation emissions in global air pollution. In addition, the European Commission passed the real driving emissions–light-duty vehicles (RDE-LDV) regulation that evaluates vehicle emissions by driving on real roads. The RDE test is significantly dependent on driving conditions such as traffic or drivers. Thus, the RDE regulation has the means to evaluate driving dynamics such as the vehicle speed per acceleration (v·apos) and the relative positive acceleration (RPA) to determine whether the driving during these tests is normal or abnormal. However, this is not an appropriate way to assess the driving dynamics because the v⋅apos and the RPA do not represent engine load, which is directly related to exhaust emissions. Therefore, in the present study, new driving dynamic variables are proposed. These variables use engine acceleration calculated from wheel force instead of the acceleration calculated from the vehicle speed, so they are proportional to the engine load. In addition, a variable of driving dynamics during braking is calculated using the negative wheel force. This variable can be used to improve the accuracy of the emission assessment by analyzing the braking pattern.

Abstract What is the effect of violence on political mobilization? Taking the repression-mobilization nexus debate as a starting point, we study the effects of police interventions on political participation, focusing on the Spanish police crackdown on Catalonia's independence referendum on 1 October 2017. We analyze the effect of police actions on turnout using detailed aggregate data, as well as a survey conducted a few days after the referendum. The two empirical approaches show that police interventions had both deterrent and inverse spatial spillover effects. Although police raids had a local negative impact on turnout, they induced positive spillover effects in the surrounding areas. Our findings also indicate heterogeneity in the spatial dynamics, with police actions encouraging people to go to vote in nearby areas, but also mobilizing residents in neighboring areas to participate, especially those individuals with fewer incentives to turn out to vote.

AbstractPrimary headaches are common disease of the modern society and it has high negative impact on the productivity and the life quality of the affected person. Unfortunately, the precise diagnosis of the headache type is hard and usually imprecise, thus methods of headache diagnosis are still the focus of intense research. The paper introduces the problem of the primary headache diagnosis and presents its current taxonomy. The considered problem is simplified into the three class classification task which is solved using advanced machine learning techniques. Experiments, carried out on the large dataset collected by authors, confirmed that computer decision support systems can achieve high recognition accuracy and therefore be a useful tool in an everyday physician practice. This is the starting point for the future research on automation of the primary headache diagnosis.

The powertrain is a very important subassembly in a car and is responsible not only for the automotive industry’s impact on the environment but also for the safety of people travelling by car and performing overtaking manoeuvres and joining traffic. In general, the powertrain is a combination of the drive unit and drive transmission, wherein the drive unit is responsible for the available driving force in the car’s wheels and for the car’s ability to accelerate when the throttle pedal is rapidly pressed at a constant gearbox ratio. The availability of the driving force reserve in the powertrain is the most important issue for the reason of safety of the people travelling by car. In the case of drive unit what they are of the combustion engines, the rapid pressing of the throttle pedal in the car acceleration process leads to a temporary deficiency in the driving force and in the powertrain’s output. The deficiency in the driving force has a negative impact on acceleration and driving comfort. In this paper, the authors assessed and analysed two different short-term compressed air supercharging systems for combustion engines with air supplied from a high-pressure tank. The analysis covered the response of the combustion engine with spark ignition to the gradual increase in pressure in the air-intake system. The assumption is that the applied short-term compressed air supercharging system could improve the driving force during the phase of the engine’s increasing crankshaft rotational speed. This helps to achieve the improved passenger car acceleration dynamics, depending on the supercharging method and throttle pedal exertion. When analysing the car’s acceleration dynamics, expressed by the shorter time of increasing the longitudinal speed from initial to final, it was possible to shorten the acceleration time. It is also possible to observe an improved driving force behaviour, especially during the first phase of acceleration.

High-quality military equipment is a vital necessity for the independent state of Ukraine, especially in the conditions of aggravation of the situation at the front. One of the parameters that determines the quality of military vehicles is the level of external noise. The external noise of this type of car, in addition to the negative impact on human health (including the crew), is also an unmasking factor. In order to reduce the level of external noise of SPAI “Bogdan” on the basis of the chassis KrAZ-63221, the use of an advanced two-chamber jet muffler of the exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine is proposed. The known two-chamber jet muffler of exhaust gases has a fixed internal partition. Its acoustic efficiency is described by a known formula. It is proposed to make the inner partition of the muffler movable. This need arises from the fact of constant changes in the speed of the engine crankshaft during the movement of the car. The change in the position of the inner partition is consistent with the change in the speed of the crankshaft, because these two processes are synchronized. The mathematical package IDL was used to analyze the known formula for the efficiency of a two-chamber jet exhaust muffler of an engine with a movable inner partition. Given the need to show the dependence of the efficiency of the muffler simultaneously on two parameters – the speed of the crankshaft and the position of the movable inner partition of the muffler – the method of color coding was chosen. The design of a two-chamber jet noise muffler developed for ACS “Bogdan” is given. As a result of introduction of the developed muffler noise reduction of level of external noise of the SPAI “Bogdan” on the basis of the chassis KrAZ-63221 car on 2–3,5 dBA in the range of speeds of movement of 45–85 km/h is forecasted.

It is well documented that sex workers manage risks in their work – such as the potential for violence and the multiple risks associated with stigma. While sex workers are commonly understood to be a stigmatised population, few studies have considered in depth how stigma operates in different legislative contexts, how it relates to sex-worker safety, and how it may be reduced. Stigma is understood to be exacerbated by the criminalisation of sex work, which defines sex workers as deviant others and consequently renders them more vulnerable to violence. However, as full decriminalisation of sex work is still relatively rare, there has been little in-depth exploration into the relationship between this legislative approach, risks of violence, and stigma. Drawing on the findings of in-depth interviews with street-based sex workers and sex-worker rights advocates, in this article I explore the links between stigma and violence, and discuss the challenges of reducing stigma associated with sex work in New Zealand, post-decriminalisation. I argue that while decriminalisation has undoubtedly benefited sex workers in New Zealand, stigma continues to have a negative impact – particularly for street-based sex workers. Decriminalisation should therefore be considered an essential starting point. However, ongoing work must focus on countering stigmatising narratives, to enable a safer society for all sex workers.

Road transport is recognized as having a negative impact on the environment. Policy has focused on replacement of the internal combustion engine (ICE) with less polluting forms of technology, including battery electric and fuel cell electric powertrains. However, progress is slow and both battery and fuel cell based vehicles face considerable commercialization challenges. To understand these challenges, a review of current electric battery and fuel cell electric technologies is presented. Based on this review, this paper proposes a battery electric vehicle (BEV) where components are sized to take into account the majority of user requirements, with the remainder catered for by a trailer-based demountable intelligent fuel cell range extender. The proposed design can extend the range by more than 50% for small BEVs and 25% for large BEVs (the extended range of vehicles over 250 miles), reducing cost and increasing efficiency for the BEV. It enables BEV manufacturers to design their vehicle battery for the most common journeys, decreases charging time to provide convenience and flexibility to the drivers. Adopting a rent and drop business model reduces the demand on the raw materials, bridging the gap in the amount of charging (refueling) stations, and extending the lifespan for the battery pack.
