The COVID-19 pandemic has severe psychological and psychosocial impacts on hotel workers. This study examines the causal direct impact of both job insecurity and distributive injustice, which were common in hotels post COVID-19, on social loafing behavior among hotel workers, and the indirect impact through turnover intention. Data were collected from 850 hotels workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Using results obtained through structural equation modeling (SEM), the spread of both job insecurity and distributive injustice positively and significantly influences turnover intention among hotel workers post the COVID-19 pandemic. The results also found that turnover intention fully mediates the influence of both distributive injustices on social loafing behavior. On the other side, it partially mediates job insecurity on social loafing behavior among hotel workers. Implications for scholars and practitioners as well as limitations of current research are discussed.

This cross-sectional analysis estimated differences, based on disability status, in college students' (n = 777) experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were modeled using t-tests and logistic regression. Most participants were white (86.2%), and women (66.4%). The mode age was 23. A third (35.6%) had at least one disability. Students reported high rates of psychosocial distress, like fear of contracting (59.7%) and spreading (74.3%) COVID-19, worry about friends and family (83.7%), and increased anxiety (72.5%), depression (59.9%), and substance use (24.7%). Forty-two percent (42.2%) were scared they would miss out on their education through virtual classes. About a third feared forgetting assignments (34.1%) and making mistakes (33.9%). Fewer students expressed apprehension about (27.9%) and intimidation by (26.3%) virtual learning. Only 17.2% would continue taking virtual classes after the pandemic. Students with disabilities (M = 12.4, SD = 4.1) experienced more psychosocial stressors compared to students without disabilities (M = 9.9, SD = 4.2), [t(775) = 7.86, p < 0.001]. In adjusted models, disabled students were more than twice as likely to experience worry about medical bills (OR = 2.29), loneliness (OR = 2.09), and increased anxiety (OR = 2.31). They were also more than three times as likely to report increased depression (OR = 3.51) and changes in sexual activity (OR = 3.12). However, students with disabilities (M = 1.5, SD = 1.1) also reported receiving more support compared to their non-disabled classmates (M = 1.1, SD = 1.1), [t(775) = 6.06, p < 0.001]. Disabled students were more likely to feel a sense of contributing to society by following precautions (OR = 1.80) and receive support from family and others (emotional support: OR = 2.01, financial support: OR = 2.04). Interestingly, no significant differences were found in students' feelings associated with online or virtual learning [t(526.08) = 0.42, p = 0.68]. Students with disabilities, though, trended toward reporting negative experiences with virtual learning. In conclusion, students with disabilities were disproportionately affected by COVID-19 stressors, but also expressed more support and a sense of contributing to the common good.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased strains on the rapidly increasing aging population’s mental, emotional, and physiological health. COVID-19, which belongs to a family of respiratory viruses, was first detected in China before spreading to other parts of the globe. Due to underlying health conditions and weakened immune systems, the aging population is at greater risk for contracting COVID-19. To better prepare for a future pandemic, it is necessary to explore the psychosocial impacts of limited human interactions to make the aging population feel safer while mitigating harm to their mental and emotional health. The purpose of this study is to highlight the experiences of the aging population with COVID-19, including psychosocial, behavioral responses to the pandemic, and older adults’ overall well-being. We surveyed a total of 203 adults 55 and older regarding their experiences with the pandemic. Survey components included the COVID-19 Household Environment Scale (Behar-Zusman, Chavez, & Gattamorta, ND), selected items from the COVID-19 Impact Study and open-ended questions, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment (Williams et al., 2006), and the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell, Peplau, & Ferguson, 1978). Preliminary analyses indicate that most participants had not experienced any COVID-19 symptoms, nor did they know anyone who had passed away from the virus. However, participants did report loneliness and less family cohesion because of the pandemic. Findings from this study will be used to help older adults cope with the impact of the current pandemic and future pandemics.

Worldwide COVID-19 pandemic had led to a prolonged stressful condition and bring about more psychological and social effects in the community. This condition is commonly seen in each group and more commonly it has affected in children, older peoples and even the health workers who are exposed and likely to bring about the condition of stress, anxiety, uneasiness and depression. These prolonged psychosocial issues may result in mental health problems and long-term consequence on the mental functioning and coping capacities of family members. The aim of this article is to explain some of the psychosocial impacts, and more is emphasis given in identifying these psychosocial problems and some of the strategies which can be used to overcome these issues.

<p>“Dear insulin pump. I love that you came into my life! You give me flexibility, confidence, and happiness.”  “Dear my very problematic blood glucose meter. I wish I could let you go. I don't ask much from you, just correct readings and that you stop deciding to pack it in. You make me second guess myself and my health.”  The difference between a loved and a despised medical device is stark. Adolescents with type 1 diabetes require medical devices that facilitate their self-management throughout every aspect of their lives, from school, to the sports field, to managing hypoglycaemia in the middle of the night. This research aims to describe adolescents’ experiences self-managing type 1 diabetes, and identify their psychosocial user requirements of medical technologies.  Following a constructivist research paradigm, a range of predominantly qualitative and participatory design methods were employed with 16 adolescent and young adult participants with type 1 diabetes and nine health professionals. Methods included semi-structured interviews and a card-sort task to understand the psychosocial impacts of current medical devices. Cultural probes elicited: adolescents’ metaphors for managing diabetes, how they would like to manage their diabetes, the best and worst features of their devices, and the relationships they have with them. Undergraduate design students used secondary research and emergent psychosocial user requirements of medical devices to design blood glucose meters, lancets, storage solutions, and insulin pumps that resembled watches, jewellery, and smartphones, could be attached to a bike, or could glow at night. I used these designs to provide additional support for adolescents’ user requirements, demonstrate how they were of use to designers, and stimulate discussion with the adolescents. The adolescents with type 1 diabetes completed a participatory design workshop, designing blood glucose meters that challenged the ways in which medical devices currently draw attention. Findings were analysed using a constructivist approach to grounded theory, and psychosocial user requirements were developed.  On average, current medical devices have positive psychosocial impacts on adolescents, with large positive impacts on users’ feelings of competence, followed by increased feelings of adaptability and self-esteem. However, some adolescent requirements remain unmet. Issues include the transition of responsibility for diabetes management from parent to adolescent, managing blood glucose while participating in everyday activities such as sports, managing attention, and developing acceptance of a long-term condition. Other issues stem from devices’ features, usability, reliability, and context of use. As research has indicated, the traditional health approach is about curing illness, but with diabetes, managing wellness is key. The person learns to fit diabetes around the rest-of-life. While it is pertinent that diabetes technologies are clinically effective, they should also be designed in alignment with adolescent psychosocial user requirements, taking into account not only their physical health, but also the ways and contexts in which adolescents go about their daily lives.</p>
