Gallery Run (GR) is a classroom-based dynamic learning technique that promotes higher-order thinking and co-operative learning. This research study examined the influence of GR strategy on Saudi upper-intermediate English as a foreign language(EFL) learners’ oral skills. First off, 62 upper-intermediate EFL learners from a language school in Riyadh were opted and randomly sectioned into an experimental group and a control group. Then, the participants in the two groups were given a speaking pretest. The experiment group applied the GR technique in their classroom, whereas the control group received no treatment and continued with an ordinary classroom program. After two-month classes, a speaking posttest was given to the two groups. To analyze the data collected, Independent and Paired Samples T-tests were conducted. The results showed that the experimental group excelled and outperformed the control group. The results also showed that 25.8% and 48.3% of the participants agreed and strongly agreed respectively that the GR technique enhanced their self-dependence. Furthermore, 45% of the participants reported that the ambiance was delightful, which conduced to the amelioration of their speaking competence. Another significant result was that 61.2% and 19.3% of the learners strongly agreed and agreed respectively that GR reduced the levels of loneliness and social anxiety. Furthermore, 58.1% strongly agreed that the GR technique did not put them under any kind of stress, nor did it encourage social loafing. A final finding reported by the 48.4 % of the learners was that GR reduced their alexithymia, social anxiety, and self-monitoring.

The COVID-19 pandemic has severe psychological and psychosocial impacts on hotel workers. This study examines the causal direct impact of both job insecurity and distributive injustice, which were common in hotels post COVID-19, on social loafing behavior among hotel workers, and the indirect impact through turnover intention. Data were collected from 850 hotels workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Using results obtained through structural equation modeling (SEM), the spread of both job insecurity and distributive injustice positively and significantly influences turnover intention among hotel workers post the COVID-19 pandemic. The results also found that turnover intention fully mediates the influence of both distributive injustices on social loafing behavior. On the other side, it partially mediates job insecurity on social loafing behavior among hotel workers. Implications for scholars and practitioners as well as limitations of current research are discussed.

AbstractTeleworking refers to the utilization of information and communication technologies for work done outside the workplace. The Covid-19 crisis led to increased utilisation of social networking tools within enterprises, especially when working remotely. The aim of their use is often to improve situational awareness, coordination, and collaboration amongst employees. Online social transparency, typically done through social networks or enterprise social software, refers to the voluntary sharing of personal and contextual information such as those relating to their own and team status, intentions, motivation, capabilities, goal priorities besides updates on the physical and social context, with other colleagues. An ad-hoc practice of social transparency can introduce risks such as information overload, social loafing and peer pressure. Despite recognising its adverse effects, there is a lack of systematic methods that identify and assess the risks of online social transparency. In this paper, we present a method to identify and evaluate these within enterprises. We present the method’s workflow, stakeholders, the novel artefacts and techniques devised to use and the outcomes to produce. We evaluate our proposed method by applying it in a real organisational context and assess applicability, efficiency, and effectiveness in identifying risks and supporting managers in risk assessment. The results showed that the method gives a framework of thinking and analysis and helps recognize and identify risks in a specialized manner.

This study developed a student-centered group-based learning system. The system requirements were gathered from relevant literature on pedagogy and WebRTC. The study identified social loafing as a major drawback of most student-centered learning groups. The system was designed using block, architectural pattern, flow-chart, use-case, sequence, class and architectural-context diagrams and the system’s application logic was implemented using ASP.NET C#; HTML, JAVASCRIPT and BOOTSTRAP for the front-end and SQL for the database, HangFire and SignalR for the reminder and texting system. SendGrid API for reminders and OpenVidu Media server for video and audio-calling. The system has been tested and proven to be effective in providing different forms of communication and structure to group-learning that reduces social loafing, and can be recommended for tertiary institutions who want to promote a better student-student relationship for improved learning.

Due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, there has been a rapid transformation of the learning and teaching environment from face-to-face to fully online classes. Students being at home in isolated home environments challenged the language learning process profoundly which forced teachers to update and adjust their instructional strategies and activities by including collaborative learning elements. Implementing novel technologies with OCL approach might act as a considerably efficient factor if learner characteristics and the educational setting are taken into consideration seriously. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to explore an online collaborative writing tool and students’ opinions towards it. The participants of the study consist of 30 students studying at a preparatory school at a state university in Istanbul. To this aim, both quantitative and qualitative methods have been benefited. According to the quantitative data, the calculated mean scores of the items revealed that the majority of students found the experience of OCW positive. As for the qualitative data, the content analysis showed that the majority of the students reported the benefits of interaction and social learning taking place in collaborative learning, and there were also some disadvantages mentioned by the participants such as disagreements, social loafing, and personality-related problems.

Satellite operations are a subset of remote operations that draw similarities with remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) and uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) operations. Increased research into boredom, complacency, habituation, and vigilance as they relate to satellite operations is required due to a lack of prevalence in the literature. Circadian rhythms, crew resource management, and shift work dynamics may exacerbate complacency-driven automation bias and social loafing errors in satellite operations. This overview of theory and applications aims to specifically focus on satellite operations literature within human factors research to identify areas requiring an expansion of knowledge. The human-in-the-loop commonality enables human factors lessons to be passed to satellite operations from unrelated sectors to mitigate catastrophic human error potentially. As such, this literature review details the need for increased research in satellite operations human factors.
