We construct affine varieties over \mathbb{Q} and imaginary quadratic number fields \mathbb{K} with a finite number of \alpha-lattice points for a fixed \alpha\in \mathcal{O}_\mathbb{K}, where \mathcal{O}_\mathbb{K} denotes the ring of algebraic integers of \mathbb{K}. These varieties arise from equations of the form F(y) = F(g(x_1,x_2,\ldots, x_k))+r(x_1,x_2\ldots, x_k), where F is a rational function, g and r are polynomials over \mathbb{K}, and the degree of r is relatively small. We also give an example of an affine variety of dimension two, with a finite number of algebraic integral points. This variety is defined over the cyclotomic field \mathbb{Q}(\xi_3)=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-3}).

A lattice construction using Z-submodules of rings of integers of number fields is presented. The construction yields rotated versions of the laminated lattices A_n for n = 2,3,4,5,6, which are the densest lattices in their respective dimensions. The sphere packing density of a lattice is a function of its packing radius, which in turn can be directly calculated from the minimum squared Euclidean norm of the lattice. Norms in a lattice that is realized by a totally real number field can be calculated by the trace form of the field restricted to its ring of integers. Thus, in the present work, we also present the trace form of the maximal real subfield of a cyclotomic field. Our focus is on totally real number fields since their associated lattices have full diversity. Along with high packing density, the full diversity feature is desirable in lattices that are used for signal transmission over both Gaussian and Rayleigh fading channels.

Let [Formula: see text] be the minus quotient of the ideal class group of the [Formula: see text]th cyclotomic field. In this paper, first, we show that each finite abelian group appears as a subgroup of [Formula: see text] for some [Formula: see text]. Second, we show that, for all pairs of integers [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text], the kernel of the lifting map [Formula: see text] is contained in the [Formula: see text]-torsion [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text]. Such an evaluation of the exponent is an individuality of cyclotomic fields.

Abstract Let $N$ and $p$ be prime numbers $\geq 5$ such that $p$ divides $N-1$. Let $I$ be Mazur’s Eisenstein ideal of level $N$ and $H_+$ be the plus part of $H_1(X_0(N), \mathbf Z_{p})$ for the complex conjugation. We give a conjectural explicit description of the group $I\cdot H_+/I^2\cdot H_+$ in terms of the 2nd $K$-group of the cyclotomic field $\mathbf Q(\zeta _N)$. We prove that this conjecture follows from a conjecture of Sharifi about some Eisenstein ideal of level $\Gamma _1(N)$. Following the work of Fukaya–Kato, we prove partial results on Sharifi’s conjecture. This allows us to prove partial results on our conjecture.

International audience There are three main constructions of supercharacter theories for a group G. The first, defined by Diaconis and Isaacs, comes from the action of a group A via automorphisms on our given group G. Another general way to construct a supercharacter theory for G, defined by Diaconis and Isaacs, uses the action of a group A of automor- phisms of the cyclotomic field Q[ζ|G|]. The third, defined by Hendrickson, is combining a supercharacter theories of a normal subgroup N of G with a supercharacter theory of G/N . In this paper we construct a supercharacter theory from an arbitrary set of normal subgroups of G. We show that when we consider the set of all normal subgroups of G, the corresponding supercharacter theory is related to a partition of G given by certain values on the central primitive idempotents. Also, we show the supercharacter theories that we construct can not be obtained via automorphisms or a single normal subgroup.

Abstract The generalized Soulé character was introduced by H. Nakamura and Z. Wojtkowiak and is a generalization of Soulé’s cyclotomic character. In this paper, we prove that certain linear sums of generalized Soulé characters essentially coincide with the image of generalized Beilinson elements in K-groups under Soulé’s higher regulator maps. This result generalizes Huber–Wildeshaus’ theorem, which is a cyclotomic field case of our results, to an arbitrary number fields.

We use explicit methods to study the [Formula: see text]-torsion points on the Jacobian variety of the Fermat quartic. With the aid of computer algebra systems, we explicitly give a basis of the group of [Formula: see text]-torsion points. We calculate the Galois action, and show that the image of the mod [Formula: see text] Galois representation is isomorphic to the dihedral group of order [Formula: see text]. As applications, we calculate the Mordell–Weil group of the Jacobian variety of the Fermat quartic over each subfield of the [Formula: see text]th cyclotomic field. We determine all of the points on the Fermat quartic defined over quadratic extensions of the [Formula: see text]th cyclotomic field. Thus, we complete Faddeev’s work in 1960.

A method for constructing rotated Z^n-lattices, with n a power of 2, based on totally real subfields of the cyclotomic field Q(\zeta_{2^r}), where r\geq 4 is an integer, is presented. Lattices exhibiting full diversity in some dimensions n not previously addressed are obtained.

The theory of lattices have shown to be useful in information theory and rotated lattices with high modulations diversity have been extensively studied as an alternative approach for transmission over a Rayleigh-fading channel, where the performance of this modulation schemes essentially depends of the modulation diversity and of the minimum product distance to achieve substantial coding gains. The maximum diversity of a rotated lattice is guaranteed when we use totally real number fields and the minimum product distance is optimized by considering fields with minimum discriminant. In this paper, we present a construction of rotated lattice for the Rayleigh fading channel in Euclidean spaces with full diversity, where this construction is through a totally real subfield K of the cyclotomic field Q(z_p), where p is an odd prime, obtained by endowing their ring of integers.

Dukes (2014) and Konno, Shimizu, and Takei (2017) studied the periodicity for 2-state quantum walks whose coin operator is the Hadamard matrix on cycle graph C_N with N vertices. The present paper treats the periodicity for 3-state quantum walks on C_N. Our results follow from a new method based on the cyclotomic field. This method gives a necessary condition for the coin operator for quantum walks to be periodic. Moreover, we reveal the period T_N of typical two kinds of quantum walks, the Grover and Fourier walks. We prove that both walks do not have any finite period except for N=3, in which case T_3=6 (Grover), =12 (Fourier).
