Abstract BackgroundAn ultrasonographic examination is widely used for prenatal screening of abnormal findings. The approach to the oral cavity of the fetus requires special attention because many aspects are unique and peculiar to this period of life. Obstetricians and pediatricians should be aware of the characteristics of normal patterns and be prepared to make a correct diagnosis. Congenital eruption cysts(EC) are rarely observed in fetuses and newborns, because at this stage of life, tooth eruption is unusual. Case presentationWe report a 26-year-old woman who had a sonographic examination at 27+5 weeks of pregnancy that showed a fetal oral cyst. During an ultrasound examination, we detected a hyperechogenic solid mass with a homogeneous texture. This mass was well circumscribed with a layer of anechoic area with no abnormal vessel. The cyst appeared to originate from the body of left mandible. Real-time assessment showed that the cyst was fixed and confined to inferior maxilla. Her neonate was finally diagnosed with EC. ConclusionUltrasound can reveal the distinctive features of oral cysts lesion and can be useful for the differential diagnosis. The treatment was required mainly by the symptomatology of the newborn. Therefore, prenatal ultrasonography could be used to conjecture the position and size of the mass, which is considered to be useful for localized and qualitative diagnosis prior to afterbirth treatment. Our findings indicate that ultrasound is an appropriate diagnostic tool to identify antenatal EC.

Abstract Background: Heterotopic pregnancy is rare in natural pregnancy. In recent years, with the development of assisted reproductive technology, the incidence of heterotopic pregnancy is increasing. Heterotopic pregnancy not only affects the development of intrauterine embryo, but also threatens the life of patients. There is no unified standard for the treatment of heterotopic pregnancy until now. So we research the clinical features and the effect of different intervention time on pregnancy outcome in patients with heterotopic pregnancy (HP) after assisted reproductive technology (ART).Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the patients who were diagnosed as HP in Shanghai first maternal and infant hospital after conception through ART from January 2014 to June 2019. We analyzed the clinical characteristics, therapeutic method and intervention time to explore their impact on the outcome of HP.Results:47 patients with HP after ART were treated in our hospital and have complete clinical data. Among them, 18 cases treated with conservative therapy and 29 cases treated with operation. 29 cases delivered (including 3 cases of pre-term birth and 26 cases of full-term birth) and 18 cases aborted. In HP patients, β Human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG, 0.617) and extrauterine mass size (0.242) are not much guiding significance for the treatment. Transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) examination on admission found that different conditions of ectopic (anechoic area, adnexal mass, heart beat, yolk sac) was independent risk factors of different treatment methods (P=0.005). And the intervention time before six weeks can get better pregnancy outcome (p=0.034).Conclusions:Patients with ART should be examined by TVS as early as possible. If abnormal TVS (anechoic area, adnexal mass, heart beat, yolk sac) results are found, patients should be operated by laparoscopy. And the best intervention time of laparoscopy is before 6 weeks.

A non-descript doe was presented with the complaint of excessive bilateral abdominal distension and with unknown breeding history. Ultrasound examination revealed excessive anechoic area in uterus along with two fetuses. On caesarean section, dropsy of amnion was observed and one normal fetus co-twin with “bulldog” anasarcous fetus was removed.

Abstract Background: Ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening. Most of ectopic pregnancy located in the fallopian tube. But retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancies are extremely rare. Results: We report a 29-year-old Chinese woman with amenorrhea for 50 days presented to emergency department for abdominal pain. Her serum β-hCG level was 1675mIU/ml. Transvaginal sonography showed irregular anechoic area in uterine cavity without pregnancy sac echo. And nothing wrong was found in bilateral adnexa. Abdominal ultrasound showed a mixed echo region behind the pancreas. The clinical diagnosis was retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancy. The patient's vital signs remained stable with the mass size continue decreased . Because of the huge surgery risk, the mass was followed up by ultrasound closely. Conclusions: 5 months after bleeding, the fourth ultrasound follow-up examination showed the mass disappeared completely and serum β-hCG level was normal .

Pseudoaneurysm (PA) associated with an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) of the internal pudendal artery branches are very uncommon. We report a case of post-traumatic PA with AVF connected to Santorini plexus. Diagnosis was made with trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) after recurrent hematuria. TRUS reported a 1.7 × 1.4 × 1.5 cm anechoic area, on anterior prostate apex close to Santorini plexus. The use of color Doppler in this area revealed high flow velocity that was indicative for AVF. The feeding artery was a distal branch of the left pudenda artery. After selective embolization was observed complete occlusion of the feeding branches and disappearance of PA with AVF. Prostate PA with concomitant symptomatic AVF detected with TRUS has not yet described in literature after pelvic trauma and represents complex diagnostic challenges. This case report suggests that the use of TURS and color Doppler can provide an important diagnostic and follow-up to address the clinical suspicion of occult vascular injuries using a noninvasive approach.

Examination of the lungs of adult sheep with chronic respiratory diseases was readily achieved using both 5 MHz linear and sector scanners. Superficial lung abscesses in eight sheep appeared as anechoic areas containing multiple hyperechoic dots bordered distally by a broad hyperechoic capsule. Unilateral fibrinous pleurisy (2 sheep) appeared as an anechoic area containing a hyperechoic latticework. Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA) lesions appeared as sharply demarcated hypoechoic areas in the lung parenchyma initially in the cranioventral lung lobes (21 sheep) with lesions also present in the caudodorsal diaphragmatic lobe (11 sheep); abscesses and areas of calcification within the OPA tumour mass were also identified. Daily treatment with procaine penicillin for 30 consecutive days was successful in both sheep with unilateral fibrinous pleurisy and six sheep identified with superficial lung abscesses measuring 2–8 cm in diameter; only one of two sheep with more extensive lesions recovered. Auscultation of the chest failed to detect adventitious sounds in any of the ten sheep with lung abscesses; normal breath sounds were reduced over the area of fibrinous pleurisy; no pleuritic rubs were heard. Wheezes and crackles auscultated in some OPA cases and did not correlate well with lesions detected ultrasonographically.

A five-year-old male Labrador was presented to Teaching Veterinary Clinics of GADVASU with a primary complaint of distended abdomen, fever, and anorexia. The dog was found to be dull with elevated rectal temperature (104°F), heart rate (148 per minute), and respiration rate (58 per minute). Blood smear examination and PCR assay revealed that dog was positive forBabesia gibsoni. Elevated bilirubin, alanine amino transferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), total leucocyte count, hypoalbuminaemia, and hypoproteinaemia were haematobiochemical alterations. Radiography and ultrasonography showed ground glass appearance and anechoic area of abdomen, respectively.

A tendinopathy is a clinical condition characterized by activity-related pain, focal tendons tenderness, and intratendinous imaging changes. This study characterizes a surgically induced tendinopathy in a goat model with a noninvasivein vivolongitudinal followup based on physical examination and US. Cross-sectional area (CSA) is the most objective feature for the evaluation of tendinopathy in correlation with clinical findings. The deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT) of the left hind limb of six goats was isolated and scarified by a modified splitting. Pain and lameness at walk and trot were evaluated. External width and thickness of tendon region were measured by calipers. CSA and the ratio lesion/tendon CSA were obtained at days 0, 7, 21, 42, and 84 by US. The highest value of global functional score was obtained at day 7, then decreased until day 40 and was not significantly different from day 0 at the end of the study. The external width recovered a normal value at the end of the study, but the external thickness was still significantly increased (P<0.05). Peritendinous oedema was observed at day 7, but intratendinous lesions were visible only at day 21 as a focal hypo to anechoic area. At day 84, two tendons still presented visible lesions. US examination was reproducible, specific, and provided complementary information to the global functional score. A standardized focal tendinopathy was induced in goats. This experimental model of focal tendinopathy could be used to study the effect of different treatments.
